Some humor to go along with your holidays

Hey fellow members, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and pass on some content that has always been a part of my family’s Christmas traditions.

I want to recommend of all things an old radio show called the Vinyl Cafe. It was a very popular show on Canadian radio for over 30 years. Stuart McLean, the show’s host was interested in folk music and the folk stories that make up the small towns of Canada. I know this might sound not that exciting, but he was also a very good writer of short stories himself and the main story he was telling was that of a man named Dave and his family. Over the course of 20 years for my family and I we have listened to all of these many stories, of family life, the small things, and big things that shape a life. Many of the stores are incredibly funny and emotionally moving, and I can’t recommend them enough.

So if you would like to listen to a humorous, and touching story please listen to “Dave Cooks the Turkey.” Its the story that started it all, and one of my favorites, even more now after being a father for many years. I included a youtube link just because its the easiest way to find it, even though it is only audio.

Great stories! This is the first time I’ve heard him. Our son is a cyclist so my husband sent him a link to the The Bike audio. Thanks for your link—we really enjoyed Stuart Mclean.

There are more than a dozen specifically Christmas stories that are great, and you should look for a list of them in chronological order if possible. After that first one when Dave cooks the turkey there are quite a few more of Dave trying to cook Christmas turkey. “Christmas Presents”, “Christmas on the Road”, “Ralph the Ferret” are some of the next Christmas stories. I usually make the mistake of listening to them at my desk at work on my headphones. but then I am always bursting out laughing, it kinds shocks the occasional coworker.

My Mom loved that show. She had tickets for his show here in Winnipeg. But he had to cancel due to his illness. We bought her a CD with his shows on it. Really miss his stories.

I have not been able to get the youtube embed thing to work when i create a blog post not sure what im getting wrong in the whole process

Using the address in the post as an example, the only part you put in the “add a video” box would be “c3U-ezmjWXs”. Anything other than that makes it break. Note that sometimes the address will have stuff after that necessary bit. In that case, it will be separated from what follows by an ampersand character (‘&’). Don’t include the ampersand.

That should work.
