SPACEX scrubbed launch coverage 052720

Today we saw the successful operation of the one flight safety system that could have saved the crews of Apollo 1, Challenger and arguably even Columbia.

Here’s the awesome animation of the Pad 39 timeline featured at the end.

For Challenger and Columbia, NASA management ego and political considerations were in charge. Engineering considerations were totally ignored. In effect, NASA management murdered the flight crew simply because looking good was far more important than the successful completion of the mission.

Today, the engineers were in charge with the single focus being a successful mission. Political and ego considerations were NOT on the table. Color me impressed and almost blown away.

As much as I think Musk has a bipolar mental problem, he selected the right people to do the job, gave them the right focus, and allowed them to deliver. Doing the right things extremely well was in control. Political considerations and managerial ego was all but non-existent. This is very different from my experience working as a consultant software engineer for NASA. Then, NASA management was incompetent. I was allowed to quit my job because I was competent, did my job, and refused to lie to NASA management.
