Standing Tall

My friends, I must admit that I was on the verge of giving up. Of conceding that America’s experiment in Self Government was over. But then, I read President Trump’s Independence Day (2019) speech, and wept.  I’ve said it before, but this speech reminded me that most of American History is that of Ordinary People doing Extraordinary Things.

To my eternal chagrin, I’ve never worn my country’s uniform. But, I’ll fight to the death for her Ideals (try me). I don’t give rip what all of you self-righteous nay-sayers posit, America is the greatest nation that God ever gave Man.

Conceived by geniuses and created in Liberty, the USA changed the world…And for the better! The very idea that Government served at the behest of the governed, was madness in the Eighteenth Century. In those days, the Divine Right of Kings held sway. The founding of America made the world a better place.

Yeah, okay, we haven’t always lived up to our ideals, but the ideals have always been there. We’ve WANTED to live up to them. To paraphrase what I’ve said before, It’s Our desire as Humans to be better than we are, that built America. It’s our fundamental Moral Weakness that holds us back.

I’m tired. I’m bloodied and bruised and weakened. But, damn it, I won’t give up. C’mon you bastards, have at it! I’m an American! We don’t surrender!
