It surely was! After work I’m going to post a spectator’s video where you can hear the cheering when it lands–some very exited people there.
There’s something extra magnificent and awe-inspiring when such a difficult, graceful, risky, and beautiful feat is performed by an otherwise scrappy, worn, smudgy hunk of a contraption that looks like it has no business doing such a thing.
This thing was built in a dusty, salty smoldering field, broke in half, patched up, and yet continued on to do this is one of the greatest things to have been undertaken in America in a long while. SpaceX is truly kindling the pioneering excitement and pride of the early days of American space flight, but this time with an unprecedented amount of public visibility. SpaceX is genius for making sure all their triumphs and failures are as highly visible as possible. It’s a heck of an advertisement campaign on the cheap. I’m really looking forward to what else SpaceX has in store for us.
Starman, your chariot awaits!
Outstanding!
Watched it live (as it happened, not from Boca Chica!). Gorgeous!
