Starlink – Enterprise

So after hearing Stephen Green talk about getting in the que to get Starlink,  and after watching the almost perfect firey landing of SN10,  I went to Starlink to find out how to get in like behind Vodkapundit.  THIS….is what came up!   Is it just me, an aging Star Trek fan(atic) who sees the  “iconography”?  Certainly Bill has seen this….

ha! yep I know just what you mean. Trekee here too.
I was logging in to talk about Starlink too, but in a different way. Much as I find tech fun and a great frontier for creativity, I have a second thought.
The Starlink Mission, while exciting, also causes me to wonder where this might end up. No place on earth were people are free of surveillance? That doesn’t sound good at all. And you all remember Weathernet from the Terminator movies? Man is pretty arrogant in trying to be Gods. We have extreme examples today. Bill (the) Gates (of Hell) trying to block or limit the sun with particles. That is stupidity on a large scale. If he had access to a system that could accomplish it, with all his money, and people without morals, well we’d all be wondering why our plants are dying. And people in the Northern climbs would be really struggling.
I remember, back in the day the old I Dream of Jeannie program. There was some question about Jeannie helping to stop starving people on a large scale. The answer was amazingly concise and philosophic. If you flood a desert, you drain and ocean.
Anyone else in two minds about this Starlink Mission?

Debra, you have a real point there. That, and with so many low earth orbit pieces of metal floating about, can that make dodging them as you ascend to space even that more difficult? I know there must be space engineers or rocket scientists as members here at BWDC, either active or retired, but maybe they can shed light on my worry about collisions/ tracking, etc.
And Debra, the plants will be dying because Bill Gates decendants will keep feeding them BRAWNDO – it’s what plant’s crave! It’s got electrolytes!

Ha! BRAWNDO has everything a plant needs! Haven’t heard that one in a while.
An interesting thought, space junk, sheesh. Don’t space walk, this isn’t a safe area your tether might be severed out there. Mugged by Mercury Mission parts floating by.

My son registered me for the beta. I was contacted a few months ago to get set up. The monthly fee is more than I pay now for broadband and the equipment was $600. That is not something I can make happen at this point in time.

Gallstones, wow. You are lucky. My broadband fee is much higher than 99.00 for starlink. Comcast/NBC universal just makes me sick that I pay so much and ….it’s Comcast/NBC! That’s why Starlink is so attractive right now, I can’t stand doing biz with anything associated with NBC. And, Starlink is cheaper. Yeah, Now the equipment cost is down to $499, but you are right, it’s still a pretty steep price tag.

customer of mine is going to have me set up her Starlink when it shows up in a few weeks. i saw that too! immediately thought of ncc-1701. no trailing letters thank you.
