Mike Rowe has preached this same message using a slightly different approach for years. For that matter, so has reformed Christianity, its carrot being salvation and eternal life, and a life that verily percolates with joy and love for others.
Yeah, Mike was always worth listening to.
As the owner of a pair of boobies, I do not take offense at the reference. Men are men. It’s a thing. However I am interested in what is the female carrot version of ‘boobies’? Perhaps James Dean sitting in that jeep in Giant, tee, rugged jeans, cowboy boots and sexy as hell. And no comments on JD…I know what is said about him. It was the look that was great. Marlon Brando on a Motorcycle with black jacket. Any of the soldiers in 13 Hours Benghazi or Black Hawk Down…that sort of look. Not a soy boy/man in an updo and skinny, pressed jeans in the bunch.

Thank you. Thank you very much. One of the reasons I admire Gary Sinise is for his charitable foundation that serves our wounded military personnel and their families. I give a monthly donation to support a worthy cause by a well-run organization that truly uses the bulk of the donations it receives on behalf of the recipients. He isn’t a showboat. He’s a stand up guy, and as Bill knows, there aren’t so many of that type in the entertainment industry.

And while that is a flippant response, there is a definite attraction beyond the calendar look in that firemen serve others, at times at risk of life and limb, and devote themselves to something other than themselves. Much like soldiers and police and so on– the ‘every man looks good in a uniform’ thing isn’t just about the clothes. There’s definitely something *really* appealing in the attitudes that cause someone to swear an oath to a cause and put that ideal ahead of his own life.
The problem with the “carrot” is that it falls within the category of “eat your vegetables!” 🙂 Also, the donkey is never shown actually getting to eat said carrot. What an ass he is for just following something he can’t reach.
But if liberty liberty liberty LIBERTY is not carrot enough, I am not sure what else can be. We all want to become “adult” when growing up so that we can “do what WE want”, when, where, and how we want to do it. And with whom we want to do it. Whether it is video gaming, NASCAR, or quilting. Maybe even reading about history, economics, science, and politics.
But, as we appear to know and so many others do not yet know, liberty is not license. It stops at the other person’s nose, or their exercise of their liberty. And it requires facing reality and taking responsibility for what we find or see. To often even “adults” do not recognize this corollary. National debt, foreign enemies, domestic enemies, a pandemic, scholastic decline, moral and family decline, etc. We don’t and won’t get to have 1st through 10th or 27th Amendment rights, along with our other Constitutionally defined protections, if we don’t address these issues successfully.
On pursuit of happiness: Newt Gingrich many years ago wrote that the Founders considered “happiness” to be the pursuit of wisdom and virtue. If you achieved these you were going to be happy within your own vision or assessment of your self esteem. Parties and gaiety, a large income or store of wealth, a beautiful wife and children, all very nice, but if in your heart of hearts, you did not believe yourself to be an honest and worthy person, then you would likely still be unhappy, or at least not fully happy.
“Don’t tread on me” does seem to be a healthy part of our distinctly American culture, fostered in part by our past ability to exercise a set of freedoms such that we don’t want to give them up any time soon. I hope it is true that the younger generation is resisting and seeing through the flaws and falsity of “wokeness”. It is not really that hard to say “go pound sand” and “NO, America is NOT racist!”. But if your employer is adopting such insanity it does become more of a problem unless you know you have skills and abilities in high demand in the marketplace. Even people who have that capability do not always recognize just how “powerful” they are in that regard.
Well, my wife just came in and said we need to go on a walk. To maintain my marital liberty I will now have to join her. Anyway, if I didn’t, she would beat me with a stick.! Everyone have a good weekend.
Okay …. I wanted to say “Bill ….spot on!” but I see the boobies reference is getting prime real estate in the comments. But I get it ….references to sex today is finding every “alternative” under the sun and a “conventional” attraction to the opposite sex ( yes ….duality ) is shouted down. BUT …my point is in agreement with the emphasis on a “carrot” … I work at a university and I observe a hope in many college students who are getting sick and tired of Woke-ology ….. long live the rebels!
Speaking of rebels …. Andrew Klavan at the Daily Wire had an excellent show yesterday about how the people in power are crying that they are the “resistance” …..well….if they are in power, they should be resisting themselves!
At my age, the only way I want to see boobies is on an attractive waitress with nice pair serving me a BLT with a fresh cup of coffee; I tip well. Then I can go home in my nice truck, screw a car, and stare at my guns while I digest. I can afford to do this because I’ve outgrown boobies; said the wise old man.

I can’t believe that I’m hearing that we need more “boobies”. Not that we don’t, but listening to Bill say it so uncomfortably, like a ten-year-old talking to his dad, …, and recognizing that I would have said it the same way, …, it’s just funny and silly.

At 67, I’ve had all of the “boobies’ I can afford, thanks, but no thanks.
This is why I am a member. Excellent and exactly what I have been seeing and observing lately. It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. I just hope it happens before it is too late.
