The Silent Fascism of Algorithms

The problem is not the algorithms. Its how the social media adjudicates reporting of media as in breach of the user agreements. People can report a page, post or video falsely without sanction. Because no social media company can have enough people to review reports real time the account, post or file is blocked for several days pending review. Once review is done and human eyes gets on the media a new problem arises. There is no conservative media review company.
Conservatives have been asked by Facebook, google and YouTube To form a conservative review entity in competition with the southern poverty law centre, etc. This request occurred twice in Congressional submissions, its occurred in several countries. the MSM have largely failed to report the request. In some cases it may have been made in sarcasm.
Conservatives tend to take useful degree mixes so many of us are busy. Conservatives get treated like dirt in the social media companies campus because the kids from universities took useless degree get scooped up by social media as ‘cheap’ labour.
Three solutions could be implemented.

1. Form a Conservative social media company that can meet the requested demand for content review and fact checking form a non leftist point of view. While the request may have been made as a bluff, call their bluff. This if it works is a profitable path but it requires a team, knowledgeable fact checkers, programmers and capital. We also need to cut some people on the left some slack for it to work and be ready to call out anyone on the right that strays too far. I suspect we would be harder on KKK and Alt right than most would be expecting.
If done via the web it could be a good paying fill in job for young conservatives working their way though collage. That’s an encryption challenge but doable. There reason why social media campuses exists in that it reduces encryption requirements.

2. Social media companies need to log the complainants with a sudo-anonymous tracking number; a hash of their account ID. This is unique, non tracking but corresponds to the same person each time. If this person makes repeated false reports then they are given a negative score. If that score reaches a threshold; -20 or -50 then all future reports from them are logged but the media they’re reporting is not blocked suspended etc.

3. Jury reports that are politically sensitive out. Offer the membership. the option to become a voluntary review jury member. When something is reported as unacceptable (not porn reports) send it to 10 random jury members. They get a message and icon. They click on it and see both the report text and the Media. They then decide with a vote. If the general population of social media is very biased then this will not work but if conservatives are 40 – 50% the simple fact that conservatives have a high propensity to volunteer for Jury’s will balance it out. This will not work for porn because the wrong people will volunteer for the porn jury.

These three solutions can be combined. If they want unbiased social media then these if available will test it. If they want biased media then this will be available to the competing complies that step up to replace Google, Facebook, Youtube & Twitter.
