I miss the sardonic muttering at the end, but w/ the mic down so low, maybe it wasn’t audible! There was a couple minutes of dead air at end where usually we hear these grumblings…
Bill;
The time desynchronization problem would seem to imply that “spacers” and “groundies” would tend to avoid each other, planet-side. This is simply for the emotional protection of not forming attachments to someone planet-side the spacer might only see once more in her lifetime. Usual human nature (jealousy, suspicion, etc.) might exacerbate that avoidance.
On the other hand, if hibernation is cheap (and harmless) enough, groundies could choose to hibernate 8 hours a night (or more) to mitigate the time desynch.
Additionally, if you’re in need of a few more habitable planets, ponder “quick” (10 year?) terraforming. You have tremendous energy at your disposal. And let’s assume that antigravity is just an application of gravity generation. So, you find a planet like Mars, with plenty of ice. You place your gravity generator so there’s enough gravity to hold an atmosphere. You turn on your fusion-powered atmosphere generator and come back in 10 (5? 2?) years with an Arkship. Voila.
I guess I’ll try next week.
Have you ever heard of the inverse square rule? Put the mic closer to the source of the sound. When you put the mic closer, we hear you.
I could hear you when the microphone was higher…closer to your mouth. But at full throttle on my computer, I could not really hear when it flopped down. So disappointed. I love TSL.
I don’t have good enough equipment to get sound that I can hear with this set up Bill is using. Sorry, will try again next week.
Hemingway said “Cowards die a thousand deaths, but the brave die only once.” It is very true. Also courage is not the absence of fear, but rather acting in spite of it.
