Bill, re your comment on banks, I recommend you look into a local credit union. They are typically small, locally controlled, and are set up so the customers are the share holders. I’ve used local credit unions to do my personal banking and the banking for the business that I owned for the past 20 years. Their fees are also attractively low. As a second option, I’d pick a small local bank. I’ve looked at all the big banks and their fees are shocking and their concern about their customers is non-existent.
Putin does have an ideology behind him and it has a lot of members. It has replaces communism.
There was a KGB program to use the Orthodox church to get other churches world wide to take a pacifist antiwar and anti-nuclear stance. It worked in some countries, undermining NATO and other alliances. The KGB took over the Orthodox Church’s seminary where they trained priests and trained hundreds of KGB officers as priests. The Patriarch in the 1980’s was reportedly a KGB colonel. In the process they created, or recreated, the neopagan Old Believers, a form of pre Christian Nature worship religion with the Orthodox Religion as a shell.
With the fall of the Soviet Union these KGB clergy were moved out of power and Orthodox clergy came in from north American Russian Orthodox churches which in the cold war had its own seminary. However there were not enough of them to replace everyone and they were old. They have faded out.
The KGB Orthodox clergy slowly under Putin’s support returned. Under them the Old Believers have returned too. In some cases their churches have a rune not a cross. The Z we see on Russian armour may be a new religious symbol invented by them. Putin and Aleksandr Dugin are old believers. Its is not a Jewish based Christianity they seek but a primitive Nature worship religion with the modern trappings of church architecture, hierarchy and symbolism. It uses Norse pagan symbolism obtained via Dugin from the Nazi pagan researchers, the Ahnenerbe.
This new faith that sees wealth as the sign of the blessings of the gods and rejects Christian ideas of justice, law, individualism, freedom and morality. The perfect faith for an autocrat and a thousand oligarchs. There is a youth like wing that’s been active for 15 – 20 years producing fanatics.

While everyone is focused on the Javelin the Ukrainians may be getting half the kills with the Stugna-P. This Ukrainian missile is less portable but longer range. 30% longer range. Its why the Russians can’t chase the soldier that just shot a javelin, Nlaw, Panzerfaust 3 or RPG at them. The Stugna-P waits in ambush. The Ukrainians don’t waste Javelins on trucks an RPG or German Panzerfaust 3 can kill. The Stugna-P is a tripod based launcher with powered traverse and remote control. That means the operator can be 20 meters away in a bunker or trench. It can do fire and forget attacks or a guided attack. I suspect if your also using a drone to spot it can fire over tree lines or buildings in guided mode. The Stugna-P is locally made in Kyiv but new factories are making them in western Ukraine and probably Poland. As a camouflaged tripod weapon it might sound vulnerable but a few dollars worth of wood, paint, netting and some carpentry tools buys you a dozen decoys.

Most people don’t know the Bayraktar Drone is a Turkish knock off of the US AAI RQ-7 Shadow drone. There are law suits about the Turkish ‘theft’ of the technology. real Shadow drones and their control units are heading to Ukraine now. The compliment of medium drones is about to double. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAI_RQ-7_Shadow
Very interesting. Liquid nitrogen cooling for the IR sighting is pretty high tech. Does the Turkish knockoff have that too? Also, it’s smaller than the videos AI have seen led me to believe. That makes it harder to shoot down, because it’s harder to target.
That’s Turkey’s argument. They say they made enough changes to make it a new thing. They pulled technology from several NATO countries. Liquid nitrogen is not hard on a base in a cold country like Ukraine. There are machines that can make it in the field. Basically compressors. Its much harder in a desert. It may get hard as Europe moves into summer.
Note also the whole legal thing could be to throw the Russians off and give NATO some plausible deniability.
If I were a betting man I would bet that both are made from radar transparent materials including a motor material that radio waves pass right though. All you see are circuit boards flying in formation.
There are plastic and ceramic engines. You can 3D print a working engine in plastic. It needs a special cool burning fuel mix. The Shadow uses a Wankel engine. They run relatively cool. I have seen an IC engine that ran at 80 degrees C. You can touch it. If that is not done yet I bet someone is working on it.
