YOU are not normal? My motto #2 of four, first stated in the seventies is “I am not normal. Normal is boring”.
Hi Bill, I am one of your top fans and have been for a long time. I also contribute generously whenever I am able.
I’m listening to your Stratosphere Lounge | Nov. 11 episode, where you are briefly lamenting the near-impossibility of simultaneously portraying both the mass scale of Soviet genocide while also portraying the humanity itself, which only happens via personal anecdote.
The first thing that popped in my mind was something that you said while discussing Soviet Bolshevism with Ben Shapiro right before launching the Cold podcast, a few years ago. It has never left my mind. (Plus, it even seemed to appeal to my robotlike engineer dad.) You said something close to as follows
“100 million people, Ben! PEOPLE!!!! With souls and families! 100 million human beings, JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.”
“Groups don’t suffer. Individuals suffer.”
Those two statements back to back hit me so hard that I have never been the same since.
I just wanted to remind you of an old strategy that worked like hell on me and pops. So often I hear you lament things about the business that are concerning you, but I believe that you are one of the greatest speakers on behalf of American values, and American heroes to ever walk the earth… and I also believe that you have such a vast amount of potential for success remaining that you couldn’t even begin to imagine it.
Hope this helps even a tiny bit. 🙂
Gee, when I first keyed this thing up I said, tongue in cheek, only two hours — I feel cheated. At the end I understand why. I’m now 76 so I saw Reagan as governor and he was very good for California well before he became president. He inherited a mess and turned it around with a surplus budget. So he, like DeSantis now, had bona fides going national. Trump has bona fides too, but, dammit, I wish he’d stop being his own worst enemy.
