The World of Atlas Shrugged Has Arrived

As if our society and culture were not already on the slipperiest of slopes with both our elected officials and many citizens contemplating and embracing the concepts of socialism, a pass by our Supreme Court to hear a key case, may increase the grease and the incline to which it is applied.

Just for the sake of clarity, how I feel about this goes way back: “Thou shalt not steal” and “thou shalt not covet that which is they neighbor’s”, just in case you’re wondering where I’m coming from on issues like this.

According to William Yeatman of the CATO Institute in the linked interview, our congress has granted to Amtrack, a government formed for-profit company and service, the ability to contribute to legislation which governs the railroad industry.

In short, it seems that a government for-profit entity will be involved indirectly if not directly in writing legislation to govern it’s competitors in an industry where itself it owns no tracks on which they will be creating regulations.  In addition, it seems congress under such legislation and arrangement will also be able to issue price controls.

According to the discussion, there exist over 6000 government operators who now hold this type of legislative contribution and potential power over their industry.

I listened to it once through, and I’m listening to it again.  I thought “this is just the sort of thing that Bill tends to tear apart down to its unconstitutional bones” and didn’t want to delay bringing it to his attention.  I think I summed it up accurately.  Take a listen for yourself:

The “greater good” needs an enema.
