Trump Impeached: Instead of a Speedy Trial, the Senate Should Dismiss the Charges

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans a speedy impeachment trial that rapidly acquits President Donald Trump of the two charges brought by the House. But why even have the trial? If the Republican-controlled Senate took a vote to dismiss the articles of impeachment, the country could move on.

I would suggest a previous Radio/Podcast of Mark Levin who has suggested that the RINO WHIIGS Do NOTHING liters Party in the Senate lead by Senator McConnell should vote tom dismiss.

The entire process in the House during the IMPEACHMENT Inquiry was NOTHING more and a great deal LESS than a NOTHING Burger of epic portions. They broke from Tradition and Prescient. They have convoluted the Constitution which they do not believe in.

On the one hand, I can see advantage in dismissing the case for the same reason President Ford pardoned President Nixon, to save the nation from the agony of continuing the drama of impeachment. On the other hand, I want to see the Democrat’s case shredded in a real trial. Flip the coin. I’m ready for either choice…

It is an interesting thought experiment, but I think I agree with Scott. After seeing all the memes with the circus tent around the capital, it would be appealing to have the Senate behave in a completely serious manner with all decorum.
The whole sordid mess should come out, starting with who authorized the “Steele Dossier”
Let them fight.

Aaaand Lindsay Graham v2.0 reverts to McCain’s Mini-Me v1.5.
He says “No” to a dismissal and no, he isn’t going to let Trump call the Bidens to testify. So the worst of both worlds.

I hear you, Bill, but I don’t think it will play out this way.
The Left controls the media, so the people will not see a dismissal of an empty case. They will see a partisan Senate saving Orange Man Bad from removal without even a pretense of a fair trial.

So I am with Jason Pinkham.

Here is what I think the Cocaine Turtle should do:
1) There must be a trial
2) It needs to be thorough and last just as long as it takes (and purely by coincidence, keep those Dem candidates stuck in DC through the early primaries)
3) Unlike the House show trial, it should be transparent and fair
4) All witnesses must be called, subpoenaed if needed and forced to testify under oath
5) Witnesses under oath must include both Bidens, all “eyewitnesses,” Schiff, Nadler, Bolton, John Solomon, all of those entitled State Dept bureaucrats, including LTC “Don’t call me Ma’am!” Vindman.
6) Giuliani cannot be called to testify against his client, but White House apparatchiks can
7) Zelensky and every single Ukrainian involved should be cordially invited (and encouraged under a threat of sanctions) to testify
8) Every witness asserting any knowledge of Trump’s (or anyone else’s) thoughts or intentions at any moment in time must present either a full transcript of the relevant conversation with the subject of such assertion, or his or her telepathy device, provide access to the manufacturer, full technical specifications and records of calibration and maintenance. The device’s capabilities must then be demonstrated in front of the Senate and American people

Let’s have this trial done, because Pelosi cannot start another impeachment until this one is over!

That is where I would fall on this too. The defense needs to ensure that EVERY witness who is called to give testimony are held accountable for that testimony. That testimony needs to be compared to any other testimony, emails, memos, other documents and the facts and if discrepancies exist the appropriate consequences are applied ie: Perjury charges, fired from job, disbarred, jail etc. The courts should be busy for as long as it takes. This should be turned into a complete blood bath in my opinion with truth and facts prevailing. If Trump needs to provide pardons to hold the nation together that should happen as needed. Way to much of this circus of unethical, unscrupulous power play have gone on for too long. This should not end in yet another lie fest that these people walk away from.

I want a HUGE trial in the Senate. I want EVERY SINGLE TINY DETAIL exposed and brought into the sunlight. I want to hear all about McCain and Graham enabling the entire PeePee dossier to be spun up. I want to hear EVERYTHING. I want EVERY witness Trump and his team of lawyers want to call. I want the BS Leaking “whistleblower” forced to testify under oath. I want every single person involved in this COUP to have to testify under oath with a box of perjury indictments sitting there waiting to have names filled in. I WANT THE FULL TRIAL.

I disagree with Bill on this. For years we watched in frustration as George W. Bush refused to respond to over-the top attacks on “Bush Hitler” and his “War for Oil” (their words, not mine). It’s true that these slanders were childish and unfair and I understand Bush’s position that such scurrilous attacks were unworthy of a response — but the fact remains that for too many people the absence of any self-defense suggested that his actions were indefensible. I think the same would be true in the case of Trump’s impeachment. One side of the story has been presented and trumpeted by the media as incontrovertible — with no defense witnesses allowed. People need to learn that there is indeed another side, and that the case is not as obvious and open-and-shut as we are being told.

Bill says that dismissing the case out of hand will send the message that the impeachment case is utterly without merit and unworthy of the Senate’s time. This might have the desired effect if the dismissal were to be made by a completely impartial judge (as if anyone would be trusted by both sides to be impartial in today’s climate), but such a dismissal coming from a Republican Senate will simply be seen as a partisan obstruction of justice. There are many Americans who just aren’t sure what to think about impeachment. They need to be shown that the president does have a defense in terms of law and justice and fairness — and not simply the defense of partisan political power. Let’s not create another Democratic talking point that will dog us for years to come. (I know, I know — they’ll create unfair talking points no matter what — but some have more power than others, if they seem to have the ring of truth.)

Not to mention the fact that dragging it on for a bit (but not too terribly long, lest there be a backlash) would tie up the Democratic candidates for a while. They should be made uncomfortable.

If you think The Turtle is going to do ANYTHING for the benefit of Trump, you’re WRONG. The Turtle hates Trump as much as anyone.

Given the (R) traitors and backstabbers we have in the Senate, I wouldn’t be surprised for a SECOND if we come down to just a vote or two from removing Trump from office. I don’t trust the (R)’s in the Senate AT ALL and neither should anyone else.

It sounds lovely, and oh, how I wish…

However, the Constitution can not be amended by a mere vote in congress. SCOTUS would (and should) certainly knock it down.

The democrats are acting like unprincipled bullies. The ONLY way to deal with such creatures is to knock them down so hard they fear to get back up again. Then if they do get back up, make sure they can’t get up ever again.

The senate should dismiss the unconstitutional democratic crap without discussion! To do otherwise is to give them respect they have NOT earned. In fact, they tossed any respect they could have had into the dumpster a long time ago.
