In the Nuclear Energy video by Michael Shellenberger, he addresses the concept of nuclear waste. Although he did a fine job, there are a couple details that he left our which, I think, would have made his case stronger.
For instance, the U.S. generates about 4000 tons of nuclear waste per year. That may seem like a lot but, consider that we generate about 275 MILLION tons of hazardous chemical and bio waste per year. Furthermore, because of the wide variety of different chemical and bio hazards, there is not one reliable means of storing all of that waste.
It is also important to note that the radioactive half-life is inversely proportional to the radioactivity of the material. That means that materials with long half-lives are not very radioactive while highly radioactive materials have short half-lives.
Thank you for those clarifications, Paul. They do provide strong evidence. I usually rely on the information I find from sources I consider credible. Science-y stuff is beyond my ability to research with any confidence and the amount of time I am willing to devote to it, so I choose to trust the sources provided in the Prager U links, and from people like you.
