According to the US News and World Report the top 10 most powerful counties in the world today are: 1- the US, 2- Russia, 3- China, 4- the UK, 5- Germany, 6- France, 7- Japan, 8- Israel, 9- Saudi Arabia, 10- United Arab Emirates. If the US gets squeezed out from the #1 position, who, in your opinion will be the new #1?

Automation and AI in municipal public works or the “power company”. Hand wheels are being taken off of the water valves in my Pump Houses. What happens when the servo valve actuators fail to operate the valves?

The NYPD mission statement (I looked it up this morning) says “protect the people”. DeBlasio stated the same thing in his Hannity interview. The city has failed to deliver on that contract, so should every resident victim of a crime be able to SUE for breach of contract? Residents pay their taxes, so money has been exchanged in a social contract. Each resident then has a RIGHT to Police protection promised by the Mayor and the city.

Anything but the events of last weekend and anything related to it. I’m already angry enough over the thought of more gun control and red flag laws, I want to hear something fun…lol

I’m a gamer too, convince me to play Star Citizen, I’ve looked into it, I like what I see, but not sure I have the hardware to support it.

More comments have been made than are displayed. I’ve got no way to display them. I know they were made because I read them, and made a couple, earlier and the count of comments at the top is higher than what’s displayed. I don’t think anyone can see them, though I’ve no way to know that for sure. It’s possible if I knew the right url I could get to them.

I’ve changed the settings on the comments so that all comments should now display when the page loads. Previously, it was supposed to load more as you scrolled, but I think some mysterious cache setting was interfering with that. Let me know how it looks to you now, RG.

I absolutely love the whole Apollo 11 documentary! Is there any chance of it being released in such a way that I can buy it without the ad breaks? Either on DVD or on Amazon streaming or something?

Growing partisan distrust, nuclear hot rhetoric, and accelerating political violence – Do you think Election Day 2020 will be this era’s Fort Sumter?
I Pray it won’t be, but I fear it will be.

Bill, being a Push Prop, did the Long-EZ have much P-factor on takeoff? My Cessna gave a decent pull to the left at full power. I heard that the F4-U Corsair required full right rudder on takeoff. Thanks, Dennis.

An acquaintance from my Navy days was a Marine “Flying Master Sargent” (he said), and he had his own F4-U (when I knew him). He said you had to “judiciously” advance the power lever in flight because the aircraft could roll around the prop from such a hard bite at the air. He also said they would mess up the Jap’s AA fire by simply rolling in the direction of torque when they saw they were catching up to the flak bursts (slow down without moving the throttle).

of Course! An over powered engine for the air foil, for certain. I suppose my love for the plane is a direct result of the 70’s TV show Black Sheep, but as far as WW2 stuff goes, Pacific theater Navy Aviation has always been my thing.

It used to be that Felonies were very serious crimes: Rape, Murder, Grand theft… now it seems that everything is a felony, and it is said that the average American commits 3 felonies a day without even knowing it.
Is this a Liberal plot to take everyone’s guns away?
“if we can only abuse the second amendment for felons, let’s just make everyone a felon”

Liberals are constantly trying to hold gun manufacturers liable for murders committed with their guns.
Can we not also hold liberal politicians liable for mass murders committed by their desciples?
It was clear that the Scalise shooting was a Bernout, and the Dayton guy was a worshipper of fauxcahantus

The Archers is one of those interminable BBC institutions. A few BBC institutions are worthy – The Sky At Night for example is going strong as the longest ever tv series in the world and is always worth watching, in spite of Patrick Moore’s passing a few years ago. But the BBC is one of the main things that keeps that country socialist with it’s overt and covert disinformation and bias.

Thank you everyone! Just getting around to surfing the net again, and catching up to everything.
You guys are so thoughtful. <3

How do we solve the problem of rule by the judiciary? It seems the inevitable result of our government framework is that judges will eventually legislate from the bench.

Why don’t we use the left’s tactics against them? For example, pedophiles like Jeffery Epstein and Woody Allen are democrats, therefore all democrats are pedophiles. NONE of the presidential hopefuls have denounced pedophilia in the debates, so they are obviously hiding their deep seeded pedophilia. Having sex with a 16 year old is legally the same as having sex with a toddler, so let’s call them what they are, baby rapists!

Dude….Has the Clinton daughter made any public pronouncement concerning her father’s relationship with Epstein? I believe we should not visit the crimes of the father upon the child, BUT, she has poked her nose into public political commentary so GAME ON.

Since the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy still runs for three more weeks: What was the most important innovation involved in the D-Day landings and subsequent Battle of Normandy? A few nominees: Mulberry Harbors, Higgins Boats, swimming tanks, rocket propelled grappling hooks, Bangalore torpedoes, rhino tanks, armored vehicle-launched bridge, Bailey bridges

Have you joined a church yet? Does Natasha go to church? Are churches institutions that should be built up for the betterment of the community and society as a whole?

Since I’ve tried to update my screen name to my actual name three times, can I get some tech support here?

Thanks,

They must have “known” miscreants locked out. Since I was an unknown miscreant, I was able to change mine.

if Hillary gave Russia a reset button, at what point did they become “the enemy” again?
But if they didn’t become the enemy again, how would it be possible to accuse Trump of Collusion with a hostile foreign power?

Hey Bill, I loved the “Apollo: What We Saw” series, and I agree with your Better Half: you should do these history shows more often. Have you considered tackling World War One? The sequel gets all the attention, especially this week since we’re commemorating the 74th glorious anniversary of Japan’s baptism with the white hot light of freedom. But you can’t understand the Second War until you understand the First. It’s my contention that England deserves at least as much blame for that war as Germany. What say you?

One of our great social ills is that people in our country–especially young people–feel hopeless, like they don’t belong anywhere and they don’t have a future. This is partially to blame for increased drug use and mass shootings. How can we on the right offer a solution to young people who feel they have no future, because if we don’t, the left surely will.

Remake movies that could have been good but weren’t, but stay the hell away from the classics. Last week Bill you posited that Forbidden Planet should be remade with modern effects. That frankly appaled me. To me that would be like remaking Aliens, or 2001 A Space Odyssey, or any other classic movie. I’d rather the classics were left alone and instead remakes ought to be made of films that could have been good but weren’t. John Carpenter’s 1982 The Thing was better than the 1950’s original, for example.

We need more conservative minds at the University levels (like a Victor David Hanson) with the goal of re-educating our youth, or at least, allowing them to think for themselves! How can our schools attract such intellect, and get them hired?

Bill … One simple question – If a man is walking in the woods talking to himself and there is no woman with him… Is he still wrong ??? Just wondering – Thanks !

So what you are saying is…. when she finally puts me in “The Box”, they wont know if I’m right or wrong until they open it .. correct ?? Wow!

61% of the people in Hawaii support the building of a new telescope on the world’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea. Stakeholders spent 15 years performing environmental impact statements, cultural surveys, and all the other red tape required to get the final authority to proceed. Having expended all legal avenues to stop it, the project has been halted by a blockade consisting of a small, vocal minority of native Hawaiians who oppose it. They are preventing the construction equipment from using the only road going up the mountain. Nobody knows what to do to resolve the stalemate.

The telescope will probably be built on the Canary Islands instead.

Are we now a nation of outrage mobs, and not of laws? Is this our new normal?

If you could make one course correction in post-WWII U.S. history, to put us in a better place today, what’s the single most important thing you would change?

With the recent push for gun control after the El Paso and Dayton mass murders, I’ve seen several trusted conservatives in my circle who have long been proponents of gun rights and RKBA, start to talk about possible gun control measures that perhaps we can implement. I understand several Republicans in Congress are starting to waver from the “not one more inch” philosophy as well.

Now, I’m not saying this is a bad thing (questioning one’s political stance on an issue in the face of mounting problems), but the issue always comes down to trusting the gun control side to not keep on implementing more gun control when their previous gun control doesn’t work and another shooting occurs.

Is there no deal we can make with the other side where some piece of possibly-effective gun control is implemented in return for some statute or measure that would help bolster gun rights for those who do show they are responsible citizens, to counter balance the risk of abusing the gun control measure? Would the other side ever agree to such a negotiation? It seems like such an obvious solution to work for, but as far as I can see, it’s never been talked about. It’s only ever gun control, only. Nothing in return to address the gun rights worries.

Is real negotiation and compromise dead?

When the “debate” is around the gun and not the shooter, then yes compromise is dead.

Ralph, that is a whole separate (but important!) issue. There are many factors that lead up to one of these shootings, only one of which is access to firearms by the future mass murderer (which is the only aspect the left seems to want to tackle, strangely). But even leaving this issue alone, focusing only on the “access to firearms” part, one would think a little (meaningful) gun control could be passed if a little (meaningful) gun rights legislation were tacked onto it. But I’ve never seen that kind of give/take discussed. Ever. It’s always take/shut up!. Am I mistaken? Are Republicans even trying? Or are they simply getting shut down immediately. One (me) wonders.

Some legislation has been passed. That is the part that gets my ire up. It is much more difficult to purchase any firearm now than it was in the 80s. We already need to pass a background check. Contrary to our MSM betters who emphasize semi-AUTOMATIC, we do not have access to automatic weapons. All of these events, while certainly tragic, seem to simply be used as an opportunity to limit lawful citizens of their right. When someone is willing to commit dozens of crimes, does another law or 2 or 20 really do anything to dissuade him?
Serious question: what would be meaningful gun control that would have prevented either of these events? Because I have pondered it and have never been able to come up with any limit that puts a hold on human behavior.

You ask impossible questions sir! 🙂 Truly, I don’t know. These red flag laws seem to be popular, but are obviously ripe for abuse. I myself want no more gun control, and to instead address mass shootings by addressing the long-term issues that have led to proliferation of the mentalities behind them.

You know, after thinking about this for a while longer, another possible reason the left may be unwilling to cede any pro-gun legislation to us is because we’ve done a pretty good job of taking that ground back on our own, from a state-wide perspective, and holding our ground federally. All states offer concealed carry now in some form, and I believe gun culture is growing again after a long decades-long recession. Gun culture 2.0 they call it. So really, we are defending our ground. Why give any of it up now? Some of my conservative friends (and congressmen apparently) believe the pressure is mounting to “do something” about these mass murders, and if we don’t let some steam out of that pressure cooker, it might explode on us in a bad way, leading to something worse than if we’d simply let a little out earlier. I don’t know if this is true, but if (when) the Democrats regain control of the Executive and legislative branches again, I fear we’re in for a doozie of a gun control package. Even the NRA is in dissarray now. Throwing them a bone may be more wise than I want to give credit for. But if we do, I sure as hell want something in return. THAT is my point.

Excellent! And thanks for replying back. You are correct that there appears to be a resurgence in gun culture. I live in a fairly small populated area of western VA. People used to generally shoot on someones big piece of property. Now we have quite a few indoor ranges. People have bachelor and bachelorette parties there.

Bill – non political question.

Recently I have been re-watching Star Trek TOS on Netflix. I have noticed that the episodes generally run 50 plus minutes, and some almost 52 minutes. Compared to more modern shows (Mad Men or Breaking Bad) that can be 42 minutes.
As a story teller, what does that reduction in time of 15-18% mean to the medium, story arc, character development etc?

Bonus: What is your favorite ST:TOS episode and why?

The number of episodes in a season has collapsed too. TOS ran 29,26 & 24 episodes, TNG was mostly 26, and so far Discovery has had 15 & 14.
