It is long past time to bring back letters of marque, federally licensed privateers, and punitive expeditions by the US Armed Forces.
I had a Jordanian terror expert explain to me once that the US should treat terror countries the way Israel treats Palestine. I didn’t understand at first, and he explained that the Third World respect strength, not weakness, and interpret kindness as weakness. They are not First World countries and the psychology is different. You are spot on about bullying. But you must be ready and willing to back it up. Don’t bluff. Say what you men, mean what you say. If they test you as a Third World nation, punish them harshly. Then they will respect you, even if they don’t love you. A skirmish is a skirmish, but don’t go to full war unless you declare war. We’ve made that mistake too many times since 1945. Be harsh in combat and kind in victory.
Most do not know that there are pipelines bypassing the straits of Hormuz now so the only tankers going though the straits proper are generally heading for Asia. The Indian ocean end of the pipelines are near Muscat Oman. {I stand corrected the biggest piplines run to Fujairah UAE north of Oman. } If Iran is to attack anything it must be Oman or the UAE east coast and the pipeline or the waters around it. Is the threat by land from Yemen or by sea from the north. The assets being sent are a good mix.

It is the basic nature of a bully/tyrant to take whatever he can just because he thinks he can get away with it. Thus, it is of utmost importance to communicate to him that he cannot get away with it, with absolute clarity and obvious certainty.
The ONLY way to tame a bully/tyrant is to hit him so hard HE is afraid to get up again. Then be fully ready to do it again only more so. Tit for tat DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!
