Ignore them, they don’t exist. Atheists are not true conservatives.
Shun them, give them no space and no voice.
Harass them, tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.
Do something revolutionary and welcome them as allies.
Include them.

As a conservative atheist, the short answer is as follows:
My atheism simply means that I am not a deist, I don’t believe in deities or a supreme being, nor a creator.
My conservatism mean that in a literal sense, I don’t like seeing resources wasted, squandered or spoiled.
In the political sense, I am a Constitutional moderate, or originalist/textualist meaning, “Give me what the Constitution provided for in the first place”.

I have been avoiding BW.COM following the election, it’s too depressing to be reminded of on a daily basis. But I still check in occasionally just to see what’s going on. When I saw this title, I had to respond. I am definitely an ATHEIST that is also conservative. Contrary to some peoples beliefs, we do exist. One has nothing to do with the other. I have been a conservative my entire life, and an ATHEIST for just as long. I was born and raised Catholic and went to Catholic school for 9 years, but have never believed any of the stories that religion claims as fact.
You don’t need religion to have morals, if you don’t know right from wrong, then you lack empathy, not religion.I am an ATHEIST that has been married to a very devout christian woman for almost 40 years. Our kids and their families are believers also, but we know how to make it work. Being an ATHEIST doesn’t make you abnormal, it just means that we have different beliefs.
I did find that most ATHEISTS are liberals or progressives, I got banned from an ATHEIST forum because I’m a conservative that didn’t believe any of the crap that they were spouting out about TRUMP or conservatives. When I challenged their maturity and lack of a work ethic I was “banned”. I don’t believe in any god/gods, but I know the difference between right and wrong.
I’m slightly confused about this title. Was there a discussion about atheists? Why would there be anything to “do” with conservative atheists? Isn’t the point that there’s one more person to have on the conservative side? I know that the conservative base is largely Christian. So what? I’ve always been respectful of different religious views even though I haven’t always been given the same respect. That’s why I usually keep my religious views to myself. It’s nobody’s business. The great thing is that we have the same political goals. We all need to get over ourselves and focus on the bigger picture. We can do this!
This is the discussion.
Conservative atheists are anomalies to the main ideological groups. Atheists are assumed liberal by most other atheists AND many conservatives. Conservatives are assumed to be practicing xtians by most liberals and conservatives. Conservative atheists take hits from both sides; are treated to contempt and condescension from both sides. So I ask, what is the attitude of this BW membership? Why can’t I do that?
Not every topic is appealing to every person. IMO this is a valid topic. YMMV.
I’m a nonpracticing agnostic(tm), and a member of billwhittle.com
Draw what conclusions you need to from that.
(A non practicing agnostic is someone who says “Holy Crap”, and wishes your God to bless you when you sneeze, among other things)
If they love our country and want to restore it to something beyond its former glory–to restore ourselves as a moral, righteous people–, I do not care if they’re an atheist. They are Patriots of the same caliber as you and I.
The key is sharing the same moral compass.
Thank you!
True atheists are the least of our worries. Most true atheists just want to be left alone. That is some of why they call themselves atheist. They want to live and let live without the religious judgments or hypocrites. They have no care what you do as long as it’s not directed at them.
Now, the christian haters, that pretend to be atheists are a problem. Why would they work to fight something that they don’t think is real otherwise? They go out of their way to destroy, attack, and generally raise hell any chance they get. They are actually not atheists but ignorant, misinformed puppets of the enemy. Pity these people more than anything. They truly know not what they do.
I’m the former. Live and let live. Discuss ideas on occasion. Watch Super Bowls together.
Yes, I think religion is wrong, as in factually incorrect. By that I mean the whole supernatural thing: gods, miracles, afterlife, reincarnation, etc. Most of the moral teachings of most religions are … not bad, could be better: don’t murder or steal (many), good; don’t eat pork (Judaism), bad; don’t step on bugs (Jainism), straight up goofy. A lot of it is a complete waste of followers’ precious time: daily prayer on rugs (Islam), worship services (many), confession (Catholicism). Religion is at best silly and at worst murderous: penis festivals (Taoism), fun but bizarre; hair shirts (some Christians), weird; jihad (Islam), evil. OTOH, the same can be said of many other human practices: abortion (many), evil; hours on social media (many), wasteful; eating potato chip sandwiches (me), unhealthy (though delicious – ask for my recipe).
But…
Except for the things that cause actual harm to others, and the attempts to force or bully their irrational beliefs onto others, I couldn’t care less about what various religious people do. Plenty of religious people think the same toward me and others who don’t do religion. So there it is.
Let’s grab a beer some time.
Sadly the Chiefs got creamed. Oh well.
Do you receive those attitudes from this community?
I have.
I am unconcerned, though. It’s a big community and every community has its share of assholes. Hell, I’m frequently an asshole myself. Almost exclusively in self-defense, but still…
Make sure you read the last two lines…
I did. I’m answering Steve’s question.
