Who Are the Real Heroes?

We hear/read/see every day accolades for the heroes:  front line medical personnel, truckers, grocery store shelf stockers and baggers, scientists working on vaccines and tests, teachers preparing online lessons and homework packets, plumbers, HVAC personnel, electricians, CEOs who have stepped forward to retool factories to provide PMEs and so on.  I certainly do not want to diminish any of the praise and gratitude for these fine folk.

However, I believe the unsung heroes are the rank-and-file every day folks who have given up so much based on the models which painted such a dire picture of this pandemic and its mortal consequences.  Gone are their jobs many without much hope of them coming back; their savings which were to cushion their retirement; many of their dreams; their self-respect as wage-earners, family providers and community mainstays; their liberties of going outside, enjoying types of entertainment, driving, going on vacation, visiting friends and family; elective surgeries; routine medical exams; attending church services including their own weddings, family/friend/colleagues funerals, proms and graduations. They see their Constitutional liberties being eroded daily by autocrats and fascists.

I am amazed at how cooperative and resilient they have been up till now.  But as more is learned about the virus and data streams in belying the models, they wonder was any of it worth it, was any of it true, was any of it planned or just used to advantage whomever?  Kudos to each and every one of them and shame on those who have taken advantage of this epidemic to grab more power.
