Posting this for a friend living behind enemy lines in the Peoples

Is it just me or is the Ayn Rand mini series ” Atlas Shrugged ”
more relevant today than ever ? Could this, over the top, mini series
actually change a few minds if it was aired before the election
and secure President Trump a few more votes ?
Interesting that I had to purchase parts 2 and 3 of the mini series
in order to see them, having seen part 1 on cable. If the complete mini
series ever appeared on network or cable I managed to miss it…
For those unfamiliar with all things Ayn Rand, one of the hooks in
the mini series is ” who is John Galt “. The question ” who is John Galt
” is asked over and over again by several characters throughout the
series as a Prod / Challenge, etc…
If I was more computer savvy I’d love to start a “WHERE IS JOHN
GALT “…movement. Perhaps there’s still time to see the entire series
re aired /premiered / before the election… Just a thought …
Awwww who am I kidding.

Having not seen trilogy myself your review is very disappointing. Thanks for the analysis, I will share your input with our prospective member.
I have extensively studied Rand’s work. The Atlas Shrugged movie adaptation (it’s a film trilogy, not a TV miniseries) is shit. I saw the first one in a theater, hoping for something good, but got the exact opposite. I didn’t bother to see the other two until I could stream them. No better and it got worse as the films went on.
It’s a bad adaptation, a bad script, bad directing, bad characterizations, bad casting, bad everything. It doesn’t come anywhere near to properly representing the book in either narrative or philosophy. Even taken on its own terms, leaving its relation to the book out of the analysis entirely, the trilogy is just bad, bad, bad.
If I were an Objectivist (i.e. a follower of Rand’s philosophy), I wouldn’t want anyone to see those movies.
Still, as inadequate as it was, it is head and shoulders above anything Hollywood has produced in many decades. It contained an echo of Rand’s characters. Most Hollywood production is a bad remake of a poor copy of an almost ok original: cardboard characters, politically correct plots, and absurdly bad science. Not worth watching for free on TV let alone paying to see it a theater filled with people you really don’t want to know.
The first one wasn’t good but I don’t think it was quite that bad. They put it together on shoestring budget and their intentions were quite good. That said, I think they tried to be too faithful. They should have taken the ethos and moved it modern times; rather than railroad-airtravel, and just fleshed out characters that were responsible to themselves first. The main point should have been when the few who are capable withdraw their efforts, all of society suffers. What they made in total was a mess.
That’s part of what I’m talking about when I say it’s bad.
Bad, bad, bad.
On the other hand I prefer to approach the movie trilogy from a ” Glass is Half Full ” rather than a ” Glass is Half Empty ” and / or ” It’s Not Really Water in the Glass ” point of view. Case in point, learning through entertainment has always been viewed as a powerful avenue by which ideas can be shared / challenged etc… Even movies poorly executed.
Below are links to U-Tube clips from the ” Atlas Shrugged Movie Trilogy ” which I believe make these films worth watching, especially for those on the Left who may never have encountered these ideas / concepts before…. Just a thought..
Following these clips are a few clips about Ayn Rands Philosophy from her own mouth.Just a thought..
