I always said I’d rather have a random selection of people chosen from the phone book than the politicians we have now. I should be careful what I ask for, it looks like I got it.

Yes, he is on the right track. Steven K. Bannon’s position, which I agree with, is that we are being run by the Administrative State. It doesn’t really matter who the politicians are – let’s face it, with a few exceptions they are morons. If a particularly ornery character comes along, such as The Donald, the real powers band together as one and push him out like the immune system rejecting a foreign body.
The great British TV series from the ’80s, Yes, Minister, dealt with this reality explicitly, but I don’t know of any American equivalent. The American shows about politics, that I have come across, assume that politicians are actually running the show.
That said, I think America is in a better position than most to start to pull back control from the admin state. There is still a fight going on. In much of Europe the fight is over.
