I interviewed Dr. Scott Hahn about his new book, “Why the Future of Civilization Depends on True Religion” on The Catholic Current 01.14.21. Here’s audio & notes:

Which religion? Christianity? Which version?
Why have so many stopped going to their once-loved churches? Why have many experienced waning beliefs over time?
Could it be the greed and deceiving of some/most tele-evangelists?
Maybe it’s the pastors who “preach” to their congregations to be loyal to a certain political party?
Perhaps it’s the disparity between the opulence and treasures of the church vs. their poor parishioners?
It might be the revelation of the priests who took advantage of children for generations?
How about the “servants of God” who ask for tithing and offerings for the church “missions” and “building fund” which rarely see improvement while the reps drive nice cars and live rent free or in very nice houses?
It is sad that we lose faith or our faith is lessened over time. Maybe some don’t even believe anymore.
I think before we look toward a common virtue we must have a sweeping, Christ-inspired, overturning of the money-changers tables.
It’s hard to continue to believe in and support religion with so much “funny business” that goes on.
I’m not saying all churches/religions have these problems, but it seems if we could trust those representatives and institutions of said religions more/again, we would grow stronger with a common virtue.
Yes, of course. Profound soul-searching and conversion are needed, especially now.
Perhaps if we fix what’s wrong within the churches, we can regain some faith in them. Otherwise we can just pray or whatever on our own and cut out the “middle men” who are (some) corrupt.
If this is a good vs. evil type battle, I can see why evil seems to be winning at this point.
IMO we have more than just our country/govt. to take back.
The Founders recognized that the only way this type of government would work was with a virtuous people running it. With religion, we have no common virtue to bind us.
Did you mean to say “With religion…” or “Without religion…”? I assume you meant the latter, in which case, I agree with you.
Yes, sorry. Without.
