Would You Rather: Democracy or Capitalism?

Democratic presidential candidate “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg suggests he’d rather have democracy than capitalism, which “has let a lot of people down.” He reacts to President Trump’s nominee for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Stephen Moore, who said he’d take capitalism. Scott Ott, Bill Whittle and Stephen Green take this false dichotomy by the horns and wrestle it to the ground.

Too many Americans fetishize democracy. George Bush thought he could impose democracy on Iraq and civilize it. He had it backwards. Western Civilization enables democracy to work.

Demoncrats are importing voters to destroy the American civilization. I grew up in a California of Reagan, Wilson and SI Hiyakawa (I don’t care if he did nap in the senate). Now Mexafonia is becoming a feudal society. And, I am living in exile.

I have to mention that the fact that Democracy polls better than Capitalism is evidence of how we’re losing this virtual war because our opponents are successfully changing the MEANING of our words to slant the playing field to ensure their victory. When people hear the word “Democracy” now, they think “Freedom” when they hear “Capitalism” they think “Business and money matters”. They don’t realize they are buying the sh*t (socialism) in the bag that says “Democracy.” So, Scott, don’t give them ‘the benefit of the doubt’. They know what they are doing! (“Peace” means “war”)

Jon, some know what they’re doing, but most of the people we talk to in the marketplace do not realize what’s happening. When we address those who do know what they’re doing, we need to do so mostly for the benefit of the audience who are not clued in to the larger plan. Does that make sense?

Hi Scott, Well, you’re right about that. This is like a boxing match with three people in the ring, Left, Right and someone who doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. Sometimes I forget that. We must always realize that however we fight, we are looking to instruct/help the ignorant. Still, I believe the battle for the meaning of words is critical and it is going against us. Just look at what they’re doing to California, one of the most ‘educated’ states in the country. 🙁

Gentlemen, Bill nailed it, once again. President Trump’s nominee to the Board of Governors is a moron for taking the bait of a false dichotomy. The choice between Democracy and Capitalism is NOT mutually exclusive; it’s comparing apples to oranges. Democracy is a form of government; capitalism is NOT a form of government, it’s a form of commerce. And governments have the power to control commerce by the laws it legislates, enacts and enforces. If you want to compare apples to apples then it’s a choice between capitalism and socialism; or better yet, private property versus government property; or better yet, individualism versus collectivism. John Q Public is a despicable, degenerate reprobate for letting this republic go to hell in a hand basket.

The state of Singapore started as a free market dictatorship. They’ve gradually democratized. Works for me.

You’ll be pleased to know that the spirit of entrepreneurship and adventure is alive and well here in state of Tennessee, as is clearly embodied by our battle-cry: “Hey yall, watch this!”

I was going to say what Ryan Murphy said, Capitalism merely equals freedom, we should stop using the word that has been successfully tainted, per Scott’s example ask people if they prefer Democracy or Freedom and see what it looks like. Reread Scott’s summation inserting Freedom where capitalism is mentioned and it sounds even better.

Capitalism was defined by Marx. I prefer a free economy. We need to stop using the left’s terms. Let’s equate Capitalism with “Crony Capitalism” or Corpratism, then join the Left in denouncing it. They’ll get soooo confused.

Mayor “Pete” has it all wrong or is cleverly hiding his true beliefs.

CAPITALISM provides all INDIVIDUALS equal OPPORTUNITY. They have the FREEDOM to “Reap the Rewards” of their efforts.
Ayn Rand said;

Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights…”, and “… it is the only system consonant with man’s rational nature, that it protects man’s survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is: justice.

DEMOCRACY provides INDIVIDUALS the OPPORTUNITY to VOTE, then MAJORITY RULES. Reward may then be based on the outcome of the VOTE.

Democracy is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights. Democracy is a totalitarian system. “Mayor Pete” has shown he is as far left as the rest of the DEM 2020 candidates, and perhaps even more dangerous, if he knows what he is saying and then fools the “Centrists.”

He seems pretty good at hiding it and is thus to be taken on very warily.

Well he was very good at hiding his sexual orientation for most of his life so I would not know why hiding his true beliefs would be a problem for him. I will not argue about the merits of our society where he felt he had to hide his sexual orientation, but he is good at hiding things.

BILL! BILL!

You MUST give Scott his own platform on your site; a 3 or 4 minute segment on whatever topic boils his soup at the moment.

Listen. Your Firewalls invoke common sense via quick, visceral reactions by way of the mind. Scott’s monologues invoke common sense via a more thoughtful examination by way of the heart.

What I’m suggesting is creating and bottling Scott’s amazing closings, and frame them in a stand alone package.

Different approaches that reach more personality types.

In my line of work it’s called differentiation–teaching the same curriculum, yet tailoring it to each student’s individual way of learning.

Think about it, dude.

Multi-media Scrappleface. A grand idea!!
I heartily second making Scott do more to earn his keep around here 🙂

Great show.

Scott, the premises you want us to grant Mayor Pete…he’s running for President. He damn well MUST know those things. It’s a prerequisite for the job. If he doesn’t know how our government works, he either needs to study our history a bit more, or get the hell out of the race.

Glad you made the Members Only episode public. I was going to storm the castle, otherwise. 😉

EGGS..there are 5 forms of Government / Governance 1] Monarchy 2] Oligarchy 3]Demacracy 4] Republic 5] Dictatorship BACON.. the 4 types of Economies 1] Traditional economy 2] Market economy 3] Command economy 4]Mixed economy Put the 2 together, throw in some potatoes [ people ] and you got a meal…sorry I mean Country. A Democratic Republic is where the meal is cooked to perfecton…and the Free Market Economy is where Everyone gets a seat at the Table.

You need to include the economy where all capital belongs to the government. For example, in America, your home belongs to the state you live in. You’re just a caretaker so long as you pay your taxes.

Democracy, as Bill is fond of saying, is two wolves and a lamb voting on what is for lunch.

But, in capitalism the wolves would raise the lamb and make more and more lambs, because they know that if they eat that one lamb there will be nothing for tomorrow. That little lamb is the seed crop.

Also, as Steve and all were saying, that is a really stupid question and is simply making use of the fact that capitalism has been bashed for so many years. What is bad is crony capitalism and believe it or not that is not the fault of the businesses, it is the fault of politicians.

Scott, thanks for your call to more fully engage in the adventure of capitalism–for years I’ve been toying with the idea of striking out on my own, and with my current place of employment imploding around my ears, that’s definitely sounding more and more appealing. If I’m going to suffer from self-inflicted injuries, it would be better if they were do to my folly, rather than my employer’s. It’s agonizing to watch someone else kill an institution while you’re just stuck collecting your (increasingly uncertain) paycheck and insurance (that you had no hand in picking out).

The question is not an ‘or’ it is socialism – servitude to the state – which even if brought about democratically erodes democratic governance and capitalism – freedom – which enhances it.
