9/11 in the UK

Here are some 9/11 tributes from the UK, that caught my attention this weekend.

On my way to my Mum’s today I passed the church of St. Mary’s in Sunbury on Thames. They usually fly a Union Flag/Jack and various other flags on appropriate days. This weekend this 18th century Anglican church on the banks of the river Thames flew the Stars and Stripes at half mast.

26 miles away, at the very far side of Greater London, Andrew Rosindell, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Romford, also raised the Stars and Stripes in a ceremony to honour and remember those who lost their lives twenty years ago. I noticed this because we’re friends on Facebook, having been colleagues in the old Young Conservatives, way back in the late ’80s and ’90s. Here is a montage of his FB post.

Finally, H.M. The Queen once again instructed that the Guards band at the Changing of the Guard play the Star Spangled Banner. This time it was the Welsh Guards at Windsor Castle, twenty years ago it was the Coldstream Guards at Buckingham Palace. Here’s the full clip.
