Since none of the tin foil brigade cared to look it up for themselves, liquid jet fuel burns as hot as 4000 F. About an order of magnitude (that 10 X’s for the uninitiated) higher than paper; which will change the properties of steel. When tall building structurally fail, they fall nearly straight down. Gravity is interesting that way as a prime mover.
For the latter part “citation needed”.
Even for the part that you can just claim a general “structurally fail”, and no matter what part breaks first the same will happen.
As a nitpicking point, paper burns at 1500F, that’s 1088K against your 2477, would not call it 10x. Not as if calculating that ratio would make any sense.
And for the figure itself also citataion needed, a simple google search shows “Kerosene vapor diffused in air (as from a lamp wick) will burn at a maximum flame temperature of 990 °C (1814 °F). In a stochiometric mixture with oxygen the flame temperature of kerosene can reach 2393 °C (3801 °F).” so in natrural fire situation rather than specific welding equipment it’s just 1262 k, i.1 15% hotter instead of the claimed 10x. Are your other points similarly away from truth or it was just a mind fart?
Paper burns at 451 deg F. – 480F There is a fairly famous story written around that number. And indeed the inside of a fire even of just paper and pulp can be 3 xs hotter than that, but paper will ignite at under 500F/ The initial flash was vapor, that did not absorb all of the fuel carried. Jet fuel will burn much hotter and will damage steel.
So you want to change scale and argue facts that way, what does 4000F do to steel. And what does the weight of 100 stories do to damaged steel?
Ok, that worth you a place on the twitlist immediately. Making mistake is one thing. Not going ahead and correct it when pointed out, and doubling down is another.
Especially when you could just run the most basic google search https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=paper+burning+temperature and immediately get the banner:
“Although paper ignites at around 480 degrees Fahrenheit, it gets far hotter once it’s burning. The temperature at the center of a paper fire is 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, give or take a couple hundred. ”
If you can’t tell difference between ingniting and burning temp in context of looking at impact of fire, please just do everyone a favor and STFU. It’s pretty rare I go out like this but some behavior leaves no other way.
In the meantime I feel ashamed in your stead.
One of our resident “geniuses” claims in a comment below that “No airliner struck the Pentagon” and yes, I’m using the word “genius” in it’s most sarcastic possible connotation.
Why is this important enough for me to write about it?
Because Conspiracy Kooks like him give sane, educated, intelligent Conservatives a bad name and subject us to effective oppositional ridicule. People like him get lumped in with people like us and our political adversaries point to these nuts as prime examples of what all Conservatives think. They use that to dehumanize and demonize us. So they can portray us as “anti-science” rubes and hicks that believe in fairy tales and cannot be trusted with political responsibility. This feeds their false sense of superiority and confirms their bias.
You’ve all seen the video with Don Lemon and company mocking Conservatives? The one where the talking heads use hillbilly accents and pretend they’re Conservatives saying “Y’all elitists with yer science and yer geography and yer spellin’ …”
Right? Did you like that? Because it’s this kind of hogspit they get that from. This absurd crap resources their absurd crap.
You ought to be doing everything you can to counter this kind of nonsense.
Including being informed of the actual, documented, provable facts.
Such as … (Or skip this and just go watch the 6 minute video I linked to proving the Pentagon was hit by an airliner. Either or both, get informed.)
Don’t take my word for it. Here’s a link to a simple video containing forensic reconstruction and the video from the guard shack. It doesn’t make any claims at all, just presents a reconstruction from the evidence. Unlike our “genius” who posts links to hours long videos which he desperately hopes someone will be convinced by … This is a six minute video that tells you all you need to know to debunk such nonsense completely.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVDdjLQkUV8&ab_channel=MikeWilson
The Pentagon was absolutely hit by an airliner. No other theory fits the evidence. To deny that you have to deny the evidence and provide your own credible, verifiable counter-evidence. You can’t just make claims about space aliens and werewolves just because you like space aliens and werewolves. You have to provide a more valid explanation. There isn’t any, there’s only sophistry and implausible fantasy. So WTF is going on with people like our little “genius”?
Our little buddy the “genius” doesn’t ever argue the facts. He can’t, he doesn’t have any facts to argue. Oh there are facts but they are all against him. He doesn’t understand the absurdities he subscribes to well enough to defend them in a discussion. When he tries to do that he only proves he’s not well educated enough to understand the difference between possible and impossible. Below he tried to tell an aerospace engineer that jet fuel couldn’t get hot enough to compromise building steel. It’s ridiculous. He just makes proclamations, declarations and posts links to the nonsense that in his abysmal ignorance convinced him of the conspiracy he now advocates as “truth”.
When you call him on it he resorts to third grade name calling. No facts there either. Other than the fact that he’s also not very good at that.
This is a pattern, you’ll see it with about 90% of Conspiracy Kooks. Occasionally you’ll run into a well versed Kook and then it’s a lot of fun taking him to task but sadly that kind of fun is rare. If you do run across one, get ready for a long trip down the rabbit hole.
Then after posting his links to hours of nonsensically absurd videos he declares to himself “There, that will show ’em. If they don’t watch the videos they don’t really want to know the ‘truth’ and I win. If they do watch the videos eventually they have to admit I’m right and I win”. This is not the kind of behavior that indicates a mature, adult mind capable of grasping reality, coming to valid conclusions and expressing them to other mature adult minds. It’s a sickness and I’d feel sorry for him if it wasn’t so darn much fun proving he’s a self-inflicted nincompoop.
Please don’t be fooled by this absurd conspiracy hogwash, arm yourself and your mind against such lies. It’s important. Intentional or not it’s deception and deception is a trick of the enemy. When you are faced with obstinate, unrelenting, unreasoning, incurable deception that should be a huge warning flag to anyone. You are talking to the child lies that come from the Father of Lies.
Don’t worry, that kook will still vote Conservative anyway. You can’t drive him away with a stick, no more than you can convince him an airliner hit the Pentagon on 9/11/2001.
Because he thinks the Conservatives are on his side, sort of. He’s not on our side though, he doesn’t really agree with us in any material fashion that doesn’t feed his conspiracy confirmation bias. He thinks he’s standing up for Truth, Justice and the American Way all while undermining reality and making out to be criminals or fools anyone who doesn’t subscribe to his baloney.
He doesn’t watch Bill Whittle and Co. to get news and Conservative viewpoints, he doesn’t come here for the company of sane, reasonable and intelligent Conservatives. He watches Bill because he hates “the man” and wants to glean some tidbit that will aid him in turning the tables on the evil conspirators that run the nation and the world. He hates Conservative Republicans every bit as much as he hates Leftist Democrats because to him they’re two sides of the very same coin.
He didn’t come here today to memorialize the victims of 9/11 and demand justice for their murderers, he doesn’t believe the people who murdered them did it. He’s fine with letting those barbarian murderers completely off the hook scot-free and blaming someone else entirely. He wants to rage against those deaths but only in so far as he can use those deaths to incite rage against his imagined conspirators. He doesn’t care about the victims, or justice, only advancing his agenda. The proof of this is that he’s found a way to reroute the blame to his favorite bugaboo and cares not a bit that the people who actually did it be held to account. That’s genuinely sociopathic behavior and argues such a person may be an inhuman monster.
Like any other actual truth, it really doesn’t matter if you tell him otherwise, he won’t believe that either. To get to this point that person has to have willfully given himself wholly over to the deception. He’s in for the long haul.
Because he is a disciple and this has become his religion.
He’ll be a solid Conservative voter for the rest of his life and he will do so in the firm conviction that if the rest of us knew what he knows and were as smart as he is we’d be like he is too. The fact that we’re not makes us inferior in his view.
Seriously, I wish these people would join the other side. The damage they do to our side far exceeds any positive aspect of their vote. They are like brain ticks and have found happy parasitism feeding on Conservatives. They’re not going to switch sides. There’s virtually no hope of that ever happening.
We’re fighting for a principle, our culture and our freedom. This kind of drek is as detrimental to our side as Neo-Marxist Critical Race Theory and the rest of the deceptive, evil methods trying to rob us of what’s ours by birth. Which is American Exceptionalism and the American Dream. If you look close the Conspiracy Kooks do not believe in nor support those either. They are actively trying to tear all that down. Too. Like our enemies.
This stuff is just a wolf in sheep’s clothing and it needs to be understood and put in proper perspective so that it doesn’t eat any more of us than we can prevent.
or, reality…

Go ahead and spot the airliner in this video…..
Hint: there isn’t one
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pentagon+missile+gif&atb=v225-1&iar=videos&iax=videos&ia=videos&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0SL2PzzOiF8
There is video of an airliner hitting the Pentagon, I don’t know what that mess of a search page from DuckDuckGo was supposed to tell anyone. More grunting and pointing from you. (“Ugh, go link, me Erin, me fartsmeller.”) It’s as incoherent as the rest of your nonsense.
Here’s full coverage of the impact of Flight 77 on the Pentagon. This page has detailed photographic analysis, uses technical corrections to enhance the image and add perspective, and blink comparator techniques to make it easier to understand what is in the camera views.
https://911speakout.org/seeing-the-pentagon-plane/
After you watch the video on that page, go here for more detail —
https://911speakout.org/wp-content/uploads/BlinkedPentagonPlane.html
These are FOIA obtained videos released to Judicial Watch. Both pages not only analyze the content of the videos, they also go into considerable depth to determine their authenticity. Spoiler alert; They’re authentic by any analytical standard that can be applied.
By the time you get to the end of the second page, you can’t deny that an airliner hit the Pentagon. Not if you’re viewing them on a decent display and are capable of being modestly honest with yourself anyway. I’m watching this on a 65 inch 4K monitor. The videos are not in 4K they’re in 480i. So while the big monitor’s resolution is no help, the size of the videos is orders of magnitude larger and brighter than what anyone might see in a tiny phone screen. If all that’s available to you is a phone, you can’t see enough of this information to be useful to you nor draw any conclusions at all.
Spot the airliner? Sure did, it’s right there. On my monitor it’s plain as day and there’s no way that object is anything smaller than an airliner. It cannot possibly be a cruise or any other sort of missile. You can see the fuselage and tall tail and part of the nose. Cruise missiles don’t have long fuselages and tall tails, they barely have any tail at all and stubby little wings.
I’ve ridden in many, many airliners all over the world and I’ve seen the Tomahawk cruise missile up close and personal like. I know some of the people that work at Raytheon where those are made. My little sister is a retired high mucky-muck from the technical components of that company. There’s a nice Tomahawk baseball cap hanging on my wall. I can tell the difference between an airliner and a cruise missile.
I’m not citing my own authority, I’m just saying I’m no novice on the topic. Don’t take my word for it, go examine the information on those pages very, very carefully. I’m not citing some rabid, foaming at the mouth conspiracy nut who tries to drive square pegs in round holes. The information speaks for itself and it is real information. Not wild-eyed sophistic fantasies from creepy, unhinged internet weirdos.
This is a pretty exhaustive analysis and I can find no fault in the methods, physics, descriptions and conclusions. The geometry of visible lines even matches up with a Boeing 757. It was an airliner and nothing else.
Erin? I’m just doing this for the people who might read our little exchange here. I know you’re not going to believe any evidence. If I could produce 4K video in perfect lighting at 120 frames-per-second temporal resolution and a taped statement from the man at the controls of the aircraft seconds before impact you would still find some bogus reason to deny it’s true because you don’t want to believe the truth. If you had to admit the truth you’d have to give up all the nonsense you’ve built your worldview around for many years. You’d probably lose any friends you have but then we know that conspiracy nuts aren’t really friends anyway, don’t we? They’re just codependent circle-jerkers.
So, we both know that’s not going to happen but it’s fun making you look silly even so.
It’s also funny that you don’t think you look silly.
Dude… You should get some therapy.. or something….
7th grade was so long ago…
He this.. he that… him him him….
Rent free up in in this hizzy..
He doesn’t even get it….
Lol, yet here you are posting your links, making no cogent argument, not saying anything at all that supports your allegations and doing exactly what I said you do. The. Very. Exact. Thing. That’s me with perfect target lock.
Disagreeing with you and pointing out the sheer idiocy you expound isn’t your “Rent free up in in this hizzy” whatever that nonsensical mess means. It reads like something a child with hiccups would write. A really ignorant kid who had been held back for several grades. I’m sure you’re an expert on anything 7th Grade, you ought to be after repeating it a half dozen times. Too bad it took you twenty years to get there. So … You might want to edit that. Oops, too late, you can’t edit after someone replies to you. Darn! Everyone will just have to get a giggle at your hiccups.
How embarrassing for you. Very sad. Ok, I lied, I’m not a bit sad.
This has nothing to do with any weird “hizzy” thing your fetid imagination conjured up. That’s just you trying to shut me down ’cause you know I’m right and making you look about as smart as a bowl of cornflakes. Without milk. Or a spoon. In a used paper bowl that leaks. Sitting outside on the front steps because your momma booted you out again and that’s all you get to eat today.
Because you’ve got nothing else but your fetid imagination and your momma is as sick of that as everyone else is.
This is something I do for fun, the only interest I have in your “hizzy” is the same as an arrow has for the center bullseye. There are already several arrow there waiting for more company and it is a lot of fun pointing out what an idiot you make of your own self.
You supply the target, I plink it. You must like that ’cause you do it a lot. I know, I know, you’re trying to make me stop with your cute little ‘hizzy’ invention thing but that’s just stupid. Too. You think you’ll get just the right “zinger” insult in and I’ll curl up, dry up and blow away. Because you think like a very small child. That doesn’t work on us grown-ups, all it does is add to my entertainment because it’s so pathetically obvious.
But …
Oh, hey, I have an idea. Look at what I said. You want me to go read tons of crap other people who have zero credibility say and watch big long videos spending hours of my life on your silly imbecilities.
I want you to read a few paragraphs of what I personally say and watch one very short video. If you read quick (somewhat dubious but I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt) you can do all that in less than 15 minutes, tops. Nine minutes working out what I typed, looking up the vocabulary words you don’t understand, trying to comprehend clear American English and six minutes for a very simple video. You want me to spend hours and hours, maybe days and more looking at what pops your cork. I’m putting 15 minutes of your time on the line in response. It’s not too much to ask.
Hell, you’re here providing me a target rich environment anyway, why not take a stab at acting like you have more than a single brain cell dying of loneliness? You might even build up enough intracranial pressure to prevent your head from imploding due to current massive internal vacuum. Generating steam to create pressure is a very well documented phenomenon and it might do you some good, even save your life.
Tell me why the evidence I present isn’t valid. Use your words, you know, like adults do. Toddlers point and grunt nonsense, stop acting like a toddler. Show me that none of what I said is true by proving elsewise. Present facts that are verifiable, explain the things I pointed out in some other credible, probable manner besides the way I said it happened. Bring some information that we can both verify, like I do, from credible sources, like I do, not from internet crackpots, like you do, and we’ll take a look at it to see which of us got it right. Try arguing logically instead of posting links like some deranged hyperlink-bunny leaving its droppings everywhere. Oh, wait …
You can’t do that.
I said that too.
Say more stupid stuff, please, this is a hoot.
Darn it! You got to him before me!. Well done, troll hunter, well done! I too am now waiting for more entertainment from Erin Hood. But at some point it will stop being entertaining, and then ignoring him may be best. Your decision though. Carry on.
There’s method to my madness here. Read on and be entertained —
This idiot gave me the clear opportunity to deconstruct, debunk and destroy all the silly BS being spread by him and his Conspiracy Kook buddies regarding the “911 truther” movement. Debunk in large quantities of fine detail.
I couldn’t resist the chance to point out the massive amounts of evidence on my side and the fact that there is neither evidence nor logic on his. Chuckle the first is that he cannot discern between reasoning and sophistry.
There’s only limited availability of a very special kind of stupidity; so finely cultivated, lovingly nurtured and of such a noble vintage — That exists in people who believe and fight for the nonsense these conspiracy nuts do. This guy is a gold mine, the mother lode of that rare and precious stupidity.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s plenty out there but getting access to it is the real trick. Most of these nincompoops are at least smart enough to keep their heads down and their conspiracy malarkey between themselves. It’s rare that one of these turkeys actually sticks his head all the way up and exposes it to fire. They’re usually the furtive types that play with matches and wet their beds. Finding a bedwetter that’s proud of it is a real gem.
I like to savor it when I can but how to get the facts and real information in front of any interested parties here on BW? How to do what I can to counter this special sort of idiocy?
Well, pick a fight with the idiot and let him act as a foil seems like a good way to go about it to me. Put it in a form that people will find mildly entertaining and give them resources to use when they run across this nonsense. If I enjoy doing that a bit overmuch, can you really blame me?
… and all he could come up with is to grunt and point, stutter and post links.
Sometimes I wonder if I should feel bad for doing this kind of thing and then “Nah, it’ll be fine.” It’s not like kicking puppies, puppies are innocent and nice. It’s like stomping rats or bugs. He isn’t any sort of a challenge so it does get boring eventually.
He’s clearly clueless on the application of the word “troll” and doesn’t understand the distinction between troll and troll hunter. Which is really cool because prey that doesn’t know it’s being hunted makes for the most successful, satisfying hunts. It’s a real hoot when the prairie dogs think they’re hunting the hawks and not the other way around.
(*Sudden mental image of vicious, mean, scowling little prairie dogs with doughboy helmets and toothpick sabres in the shadow of a hawk like a B52 bomber overhead ….*)
Oops, sorry. Where was I? Oh, yeah …
That and the puerile insults, those were a real blast too. I especially chuckled at the “sand in your vagina” one because it was so childish and yet he seemed to really believe that sort of thing was going to shut me up.
He doesn’t even know that what he did is like taking a water pistol to a gunfight. Probably the only means he has of striking back and to use the hawk analogy again — Like a prairie dog sticking out his tongue in the instant before the talon connects.
Nope, false analogy, sorry. Even a prairie dog is smart enough to know that won’t work.
Though the whole time I kept dropping him obvious hints, he never figured out what was going on.
I’m trying to keep things relatively clean here but Bugs Bunny would have called him a “maroon”.
This dipstick is perfect. I couldn’t have done better if I was telling him what to post. Seriously, he makes one of the best punchin’-monkeys I’ve met on the internet in a long time. He doesn’t say anything materially to his benefit. Just the equivalent of “I believe in ‘conspiracy’ but I can’t spell it.”
Best of all he’s not smart enough to shut the hell up either. The gift that keeps on giving.
The fact that I got to wipe the cow yard off my boots on his face and unload some chest clearing epithets, most of which I doubt he understood, was just icing on the cake. Those were for my amusement but I’m sure I’m not alone there.
I seriously hope he doesn’t read this reply, though it probably won’t matter if he does. He doesn’t seem capable of actually learning anything and he no doubt thinks he got the better of me. I’d like him to keep thinking that so I can keep having fun. Because I do find this kind of thing a lot of fun and that’s one of my foibles no doubt.
As for ignoring him … This isn’t the first time he and I have crossed swords. Ok, my sword and his popsicle stick but that’s besides the point. I bet he thinks every time I stop replying to him it’s because he has won the argument. He doesn’t have a clue he’s simply served his purpose and I want to save a little more of his vintage stupidity so we can do this dance again.
I just hope he’s as dumb as I think he is and keeps it up. If he ever wises up the fun will be over.
I was in my office in our county’s Emergency Management Division when a friend from Texas called me and said: “Turn on the television.” I walked into our conference room and turned on the television just in time to see the second airliner slam into one of the Towers. I walked into the Director’s office and said “Boss, you need to see this.”
I had been a member of our county’s FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Task Force since its inception and I knew this was what I’d been training for. Unfortunately, my office was short-handed and I wasn’t allowed to go – which might have saved my life. At least five of our Task Force members who participated in search & rescue operations have died of cancer.
On 9/11 I was in London. On 12/9 I spent the day in a makeshift gazebo outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square looking after people via condolence books, jacket pins and little flags. But I don’t care about sentimentalism. I love the USA Bill loves, but she is gone. She may come back some day; Bill feels more positive about that than me. But for now, she is gone. And we know what slouches toward Bethlehem to be born in her place. It ain’t pretty, and it ain’t holy. There is no room for sentimentalism today. Save your tears, folks. There is work to be done.
May Joe Biden and Barack Obama and the other puppeteers go to hell.
Well on their way, barring an unlikely conversion in the 11th hour.
I called a friend of mine to wish him a happy birthday. He was born September 11, 1959.
He sounded dead inside. “Don’t you know what happened?”
“No.”
“”Turn on the TV. Call me back in half an hour.”
We’re both vets, so we were both infuriated of course… but at the same time, we both agreed that it looked like a finely crafted gem of an Op. Just because you’re on the wrong end doesn’t make it any less well done.
That guy’s birthday has been screwed ever since.
Living in Japan, I was watching the 10:00 pm news on NHK (which I hardly ever do) and they cut into a report on a typhoon hitting Tokyo to report on the first plane hitting. Then, as the reporter was facing the camera and talking, we saw over his shoulder the second plane hit. As a missionary, I am very careful with my words. That is one of the few times in my life when I have said, from the depths of my heart, Oh My God! It was quite a while before I went to bed, and I spent the time praying, mostly with my eyes open watching the TV. We had a church member visiting the Atlanta area at that point, and her return was delayed a week. My wife was so affected that she has rarely watched TV news in the 20 years since.
I chose to spend that cruel, cruel day in the 1840s. While working on the road, the only time we happened to be anywhere near a television during our three week trip was at the truck stop where we were eating breakfast on the morning of September 11th. One of those morning shows was on and at some point they cut away from their regular programming to show the upper floors of the north tower engulfed in flames. Shortly thereafter we saw the second plane hit. I said to Steve, “There’s no possible way the people on the floors above are going to be able to escape. I can’t bear to watch their suffering.” Since we had scheduled to spend the day at Old Sturbridge Village, a collection of 18th and 19th century structures, we sought normalcy in the face of the chaos and continued on with our plans. Being among buildings that had survived the War of 1812 and the Civil War was very comforting. The resolve of the people who built this nation and maintained it through uncertain times was a shining beacon of hope and courage, an example to take to heart in our time.
When we got back in the van after 5 p.m. we turned on the radio. Hearing, “Seven World Trade Center just collapsed, making it the third tower to fall,” hit like a punch in the gut. Then the news about the Pentagon and Flight 93 delivered a couple more in quick succession. We had just driven by the towers on our way to do a show at the Times Square Marriott over Labor Day weekend. How could it be that those giant buildings were no longer standing?
The rest of the day was surreal. We get waived through the tollbooth on the nearly empty Massachusetts Turnpike as we head west towards the restaurant where we had planned to eat dinner, an 18th century tavern in West Springfield. Unbeknownst to us, the place is on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds, which is in the middle of holding its annual 17-day six states state fair, so when we pull up the place is loaded with cops there to direct the almost non-existent fairgoer traffic. They direct us towards the restaurant past the empty but operating carnival rides and a long row of the typical booths selling funnel cakes and cotton candy, some opened, some closed, all while “Let It Be” is blasting over the PA.
The restaurant was really nice. It was a special occasion kind of place, and it was heartbreaking to see the families who were obviously there to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.
After dinner, we headed to a state park to camp for the night. We get there after dark, we’re out in the middle of nowhere, we’re up on the top of a mountain, and we’re the only people in the park. Except for a light breeze, it was dead quiet. Then, sometime in the middle of the night, military jets come screaming overhead. For some reason, everything sounds really loud inside a tent, so those jets sounded really, really loud, really close, and really lethal. Being pre-cell phone days, we had no way to know if this was the beginning of the end of the world, but in any case I turned to Steve and said, “Thank God those guys are up there. And thank God they’re on our side.”
Twenty years later, may God bless the ones who still are.
I began writing this on September 14, 2001.
I have added on a bit here and there…
Every so often, I choke up. Every so often I cry.
“I, on the day I am afraid, I call to You,
let not the wanton forsakers the precious [Torah] victimize me.
Pay them their due, [when you] sit [in judgement] to examine
the wicked and evil decree promulgated at their councils.
They plot to make [us] oblivious of the holy, revered Name,
and to accustom us to an unclean name of vile idolatry.
This method of theirs has ruined the best of our people;
save the remnant from being crushed [like olives] in the press.
They have learned to rend human prey, as stated [by the prophet]
[And] they cast lots, as if for a thing left ownerless in the desert.
They almost destroyed [us], and indeed spared no effort,
but for your mercy, Lord Who leads with kindness…….”
Selicah 9, said on the third day of Selichos, which was the 23rd of Elul, 5761, September 11, 2001
It’s Friday, erev Shabbos, the Sabbath before Rosh Hoshana.
Every morning the month before Rosh Hoshana, the month of Elul, we blow the shofar, reminding us that the New Year is coming; reminding us to repent, to do teshuva; reminding us to turn to G-d.
Every morning the week before Rosh Hoshana, we say Selichos, which are prayers of supplications to G-d, asking him to remember His Mercy.
It is Erev Rosh Hoshana; Erev Yom Kippur; Erev Succos. These are the Yamim Noraim – The Days of Awe.
Rosh Hoshana is Yom Ha Din, the Day of Judgement where we recognize that G-d is King and intervenes in the world to punish the wicked and reward the good. Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement where we recognize that G-d is Judge. On Succos, the Festival of Booths and Simchas Torah, we celebrate G-d as our Protector.
………..”Fortify the strength of the surviving remnant,
[whose] power is exhausted by the burden of evil that causes diminution.
While [the pain of] one calamity still remains,
the second rushes and hurries its advent.
From one day to the next my pain increases,
each day is worse than the one before.
I am worn out with bearing the yoke of duress,
[as] the [conquerors] pronounce,
‘Weigh out [your gold] and bring plenty!’
The oppressive enemy is pushing Your precious one
to exchange her Hope for a man-made faith…………..”
(Selicah 12 – said on the fourth day of Selichos)
Before these holidays, I always have a few more things to do. As I am a builder/ remodeler/ carpenter, there are people who need my skills to prepare. Some need a succah, the temporary dwelling that we put together for the holiday of Succos.
Then there is my blessed wife, Marcie, who would like me to “finish just one project” around our poor home before the High Holy Days. And then there are shtenders to repair and build.
A shtender is a podium/bookstand. As we spend most of the time during Selichos, Rosh Hoshana, and Yom Kippur on our feet, it is a useful and necessary tool on which to rest not only our books, but our bodies.
On Tuesday morning, September 11th, I was in the basement, applying a coat of polyurethane to four shtenders that I had just built. The computer was close by, and I clicked on various news topics as I repositioned the shtenders so that things would download while I worked (*2001, things took forever to download). I mostly search for news on Israel, but a one little item on the Yahoo home page intrigued me – It said, “Plane crashes into the World Trade Center.” I clicked on the story. It wouldn’t come up. I clicked again a few minutes later. It still wouldn’t come up. My wife, listening to the radio upstairs, yelled down to me something incomprehensible. I yelled “What?” She yelled at me to turn on the television.
That’s strange, I thought. She does not watch television. Why would she tell me to do that in the morning?
I turned on the television.
I watched jet number two. I watched as the Pentagon came into the news. I watched for the next two hours.
The surreal “blow em up movie” like quality struck me over and over and over again. It was a very sad movie. It was a very bad movie.
I called my mother and father to tell them I loved them.
During the day, I talked to my friends. One of the members of our community who works in the World Trade Center overslept Tuesday morning. Another woman, who just moved to New Jersey, got a brand-new job at the World Trade Center last week. Tuesday was her first day. She got off the bus downtown and saw a plane collide with the Tower. She got back on the bus and went back uptown. Later, she spent the day collecting money for all the people who fled with absolutely nothing, so they could get home.
Another friend of mine told me to make sure my passport was in order as I might want to be leaving here rather suddenly because when things go this wrong are and are this bad, the world blames the Jews. I strongly disagreed with him. I told him that it couldn’t happen in America….
I am going to get my passport ready….
I told another friend who was not Jewish that this is what Israel goes through every day. She responded that there are terrorists on both sides of the question in Israel.
There are terrorists on both sides of the question in Israel………..
This person is one of the kindest, most tolerant people I have ever known in this world. I explained to her how utterly wrong she was – as Manhattan burned, neither one of us wanted to argue, and she agreed that she was wrong.
Sometimes, the Israeli’s have been wrong. Sometimes, as with all nations and governments, Israel behaves badly. But there are no terrorists in Israel.
Perhaps in 1947 or even three thousand years ago, there may have been Jewish terrorists. But not today.
In Israel, there are brave, valiant, and strong human beings who struggle daily to defend themselves from this same Evil that attacked us and that has vowed to murder them; to destroy them; and to obliterate them. This Evil will not stand.
“…..the unclean ones who say they will destroy your heritage,
to exchange Your glory for emptiness and imbue themselves with it;
To accept the vile offshoot as a god,
and Your holy awesomeness to abandon and revile.
With Your love and Your compassion, O you who bear [us] and upraise [us],
confound their counsel and nullify their intentions.
Cast much confusion among them and repulse and give no rest to the cruel angel.
For the sake of Your own honor and Your lauded holy Name,
do awesome wonders, that [Your Name] not be desecrated among the nations.
Lead their advisors and strong men into folly,
and torment them as they have tormented me.
You Who raise the needy form the dust,
the destitute form the trash heap,
do not deliver Your congregation to destruction and disgrace.
Though they be slothful and lax regarding Your commands,
let Your love cover over all their willful sins.
Your love for them abounds, O Lord of lords;
no matter what, they are called Your children…..”
(Selicah 14 – said on the fifth day of Selichos)
This Evil is not like us.
This Evil worships Death and slaughters multitudes for the sake of growing its own Power.
And, any country or people or place that promotes or encourages this Evil to slaughter; to maim and obliterate; must be stopped.
My children; my wife; my closest friends and my community are direct targets for this monstrous Evil.
Not only did this Evil attack the United States; not only does this Evil murder innocents in Israel; this particular Evil is out to kill me, personally …. The exact same grotesque Evil that wishes to butcher me because I am an American also wishes to annihilate me because I am Jewish.
It’s very personal. This Evil, personally, wants me dead.
My eldest son was 21 years old on September 17th, 2001. He was going to Israel for the 1st time to learn at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. His plane reservations were for October 15th. My wife had me go with him to make sure that it was “safe” in Israel.
G-d forbid, my son should have been where it was “safe” in Manhattan on September 11th.
A month before September 11th, there was a terrible tragedy in the Jewish community. A large group of Orthodox Jews were killed in a helicopter crash while sightseeing over the Grand Canyon. There were tens of thousands of Jews at the funerals in New York. Tuesday, September 11th, was the memorial service that takes place thirty days after someone has died. There were many, many people who were at this Shloshim, this memorial service, and not at their jobs at the World Trade Center on Tuesday morning.
The Torah portion that we read in the synagogue every week for that week of September 11th is called Nitzavim. At the end of the passage, G-d tells His people “I call heaven and earth today to bear witness against you; I have placed life and death before you, blessing and curse; and you shall choose life, so that you will live, you and your offspring – to love Hashem, your G-d, to listen to His voice and cleave to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days, to dwell upon the land that Hashem swore to your forefathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
– Parshas Nitzavim – Devarim/Deuteronomy 30:19,20
G-d commands us to Choose Life. Those who Choose life are with G-d. Those who choose Death are against G-d. It is our human responsibility to remove those who choose Death.
“….Save those who trust in You,
who have fled to take cover in Your shadow.
Demand [judgement] for the persecution [they have suffered]:
it is Yours to do that.
Hear [the prayer of] the downtrodden, see his failing spirit;
may his expressions and his outpouring of prayer
find favor [before You].
Strengthen [his] weakness, prop [his] staggering,
to bring him relief,
for, behold, [You are] the Maker of mountains,
the Creator of spirit,
Who tells each man [at judgement time] what he has wrought.”
(Selicah 17 – said on the sixth day of Selichos)
Every year, on September 11th, I read about what happened. I talk to people. I write a bit about it. I watch the events unfold on the various videos.
I watch a video made shortly after at: https://youtu.be/JkuVKm4oNZw
I have never let go of 9/11. My brother, an assimilated Texan and a Vietnam vet, gave me a lapel pin shortly after that was an American flag with a red white and blue memorial ribbon around it that says 9-11-2001 on the bottom.
I am still wearing that pin.
In my Orthodox Jewish world, people do not wear American flag pins with what looks like a candy cane around it. I get peculiar looks in some of the Orthodox enclaves where I visit or pray.
I have often thought that maybe it’s time to take the pin off – I have also been flying the American flag on the flagpole outside of my house and, I sometimes think that it’s time to take that down too…
(*September 10, 2021 – I still wear that pin. My flag still flies)
But, I don’t.
When the rare person stares at my lapel pin with a questioning look in their eyes, I try and explain –
There is a Great Evil in this world that is seeking to destroy us all. It is present and ongoing. Bin Laden was simply the Evil that attacked us on 911.
This exact same Evil is present in what is today called the “Arab Spring” – which is just a continuation of a murderous 100 year Great Sectarian Civil War in the Muslim and Arab worlds.
This Evil worships Death and wishes to destroy all those (particularly other Arabs and Muslims) who do not worship Death in the same manner.
This Evil wishes to obliterate Israel.
This Evil wishes to destroy the United States.
If we do not remember this Evil and fight against it, it will, indeed, “destroy” our world.
So, I wear my lapel pin and I hope that I remember to remember.
*September 10, 2021:
Much of This World has surrendered to this Evil.
The Death worshipers have grown in strength and numbers.
They rule many countries, including the US, and they control the airwaves.
Fight.
Do no go gently into this dark night.
Remember that G-d is in Charge and He made us in His Image.
He is the Freedom of Choice; the Freedom of Will.
We have the Freedom to Choose.
We, each and every one of us, has the G-d Given Freedom to Choose how we can learn from Any event in This World that G-d has given us.
Good Shabbos.
September 10, 2021 – I still wear that pin. My flag still flies!
Whew, that was a long one but I’m glad I read it. I should talk, I write some pretty long ones too.
I’m not Jewish but I cannot fully express to you how glad I am any time I see any of our Jewish brothers, Orthodox, Reformed, secular or anywhere in-between — Participating in any sort of Conservative activity. Like this site for instance. It does my heart good to see a Jewish Patriot.
Over here on the Christian end of the stick we have a serious problem with some people thinking they cannot be good Christians unless they’re good socialists too. The same goes for many of the Jews I have met, many Jewish people seem to have an unhealthy bent towards the Left. So it’s a special joy to me to see someone like you wearing an American flag and proud to do so.
Please do continue and use those questioning looks as opportunity to explain the very good reasons you wear that flag. Your very appearance, your demeanor, dress and grooming say to the world that you put your G-d first. There’s no reason why your country should not have a small space on your lapel. That little flag is not ornamentation, it’s a statement of conviction and deserved loyalty not a frivolous bauble.
I know that sometimes I sound like a travelogue but I lived in and near Israel for a while in my life, north of Qiryat Shmona. I see they spell that Kiryat now but back then it was with a “Q”. I taught some kids how to ride horses up there and settled a few jumpy animals for them while I was at it. I met and befriended many Jewish Israelis and they were good, solid people. They would share their homes and tables with me when I was available and I really loved it there. I hope your son’s experience was as positive as mine was in the Jewish Nation.
Yes, there is an evil that seeks to destroy you and yours personally and intimately. Of that there is no doubt and anyone who does doubt that is not cognizant nor those who deny it your friends. In our Bible when The Rabbi Yeshua said “As you do unto the least of these My brothers, you do unto Me also.” He was speaking to Jewish people about Jewish people, His Hebrew brothers and sisters specifically and much less directly addressing the treatment of Gentiles like me. While there is a broader application of those words and at the risk of oversimplifying, the primary and specific application is to how His people (Jew or future Gentile follower) treat Jewish people. Meaning ill treatment of Jewish people is a direct and specific corollary to ill treatment of our Lord Himself.
Let that be a yardstick for you when dealing with those of my Faith. Anyone hostile to you because you’re Jewish, while claiming Christianity as justification, is not adhering to Christian doctrine and should be viewed through that lens. We are brothers, though perhaps of different mothers. There is greater kinship between you and I than between any apostate socialist ‘Christian’ and myself. That kinship is amplified by the flag on your lapel and I would dearly love to shake your hand.
In the previous century we saw first hand and before the entire world an example of the dire injustice, mistreatment and murder of Jewish people simply because they were Jewish people. Some, not many but some of the perpetrators claimed to be Christians. That’s a fallacy on their part. Any Christian of True Faith had to look at that and say it was the work of Evil. Had they been able to do so those monsters would have done the same to Jesus Christ himself. Simply for the fact that He Himself was born a Jew of a Jewish mother. This same spirit of evil moves today in Synagogue attacks, desecrations, libles and a whole religion that would like to push over seven million Jewish Israelis into the sea to die. There is no doubt that the evil which focuses on you is specific and personal to you and that fact is undeniable.
Your Faith and mine are of one accord on this matter.
There are many heresies and false teachings about how Christians should view our Jewish brothers, and their number grows. Many of us are on your side and seeing you here on my side is a delight to my spirit. You are most welcome indeed!
There is always that darkness and it always threatens us all. It’s just more generic to me and more specific to you but it’s there either way. It would eat me to get to you and enjoy the snack. It would eat me even if it could not get to you and with the same gusto. Thus it is an enemy to us both. Every generation must make its stand against that darkness, every generation must unmask it and do its best to hold it in check. This is the way it has always been.
It’s sad and ironic that the people serving that darkness preach to us about a human utopia when they are the very thing that inhibits improvement of the human condition. Mankind could more closely approach the image of his Creator in themselves; with prosperity, liberty and brotherly love — If those people would stop holding us back. I had hopes we might have turned a corner in the previous election minus one but alas … It was not to be. There will never be a utopia of the sort they promise and their actions assure we’ll never even come close. It is sad that what they promise will never be achieved because of their practices.
Still, knowing that they exist and what their goals are, despite the lies they tell about those goals, is a good part of the battle won. We have friends and allies, we have brothers in arms, we have the force of what is right on our side. We have hope. It’s good to see you’re a friend and an ally and I wrote to let you know that I reciprocate and appreciate that honor despite any other differences between us because — We are both Americans.
It’s late-evening here and I’m going to quit posting for the day and find something else to do until bed time. So …
Be well my friend and the same to your family. Shalom aleichem, shavu’a tov.
The news would have broken here in England sometime after 2 pm, but at the time I was working 12-hour nights in the printshop of a large factory in my hometown of Southall, west London, and I was asleep when the news broke. I got up and headed off for work without turning on my TV. On the bus I overheard some snatches of conversation, it was clear something big had happened, but I couldn’t make out quite what. Where I lived, Hounslow, and Southall are both areas where English is very much a second language for a majority, most of the conversations veered in and out of Hindi, Urdu etc. and all I could tell was something terrible had happened in America.
Once I got to work, I found out just what had happened, or at least, what was being reported at the time, things were still quite confused. It was truly shocking, tragic and unnerving news. Details were still coming in. We had no TV, only a radio in the inkroom. Throughout the long night we all called in there whenever we could to find out the latest. Sometimes there’d be five or six of us gathered around, listening in silence like a family huddled round the wireless in the Second World War.
When I got home the next morning, I turned on the TV and sat in front of it for hours, dazed and transfixed. Seeing at last with my own eyes what my mind had been unable to truly grasp. I went to bed around 2pm I think, tired as I was sleep did not come easily.
At the time my assistant was a Somali guy, compared to his other countrymen at the factory he was pretty ‘westernised’. He’d mostly grown up in Milan and was a fairly small ‘m’ Moslem, we got along quite well. He felt the New York attacks were ‘wrong’ (nothing stronger than that, just wrong) but he thought the Pentagon attack was justified. What his mate, a hook nosed old Satan of a chap who refused to speak to any non-Moslems other than for purely work matters thought I shudder to think. I do remember posters in the area celebrating 9/11 on a few walls and even the odd shop window.
That day is still an odd stream of confusion in my mind. I was working in north Atlanta at an auto repair shop. I worked for a man that truly hated the United States and its people. He did not, however, hate our money. I had just finished stretching barbed wire around his used cars when the master mechanic (a mild mannered former Army vet by the name of Jose) came out with his hand cloth to his face. He looked around like he was looking for something on the sign or in the sky.
I walked up and asked what he was looking for. The next words he spoke were as numbing as Novocain.
“They are attacking New York.”
I thought a nuclear weapon had been deployed, or some Russian rogue had gathered a force and landed in New York City. Jose pointed his cloth at the lobby television.
“Look! Look!” His voice cracked. That was very unusual.
In the lobby I saw Fox News (the forbidden channel at that auto repair joint) repeatedly showing the second plane colliding with the tower. Beside that second tower was a burning smoking twin. I’m not certain what I did for a few moments. I stood there stunned.
When I got my head back into reality, I went to the office of my boss. He and his pal (a scrawny, snarling man from Cypres) were talking. I told him what was happening. He laughed and said “I know.” then waved me back out of his office. Shame still burns my ears that I did not throttle that third rate CO2 maker. I left.
I got into my old Pathfinder and drove to the dealership that my wife worked at. The ladies in her office were crying. A man with a ball cap was sitting in the customer service area repeating the words “Can you believe this? Is this real?” to the room around him. Nobody answered. We were all just watching this thing unfold. I told my wife that I was taking her to our house out in the country. We were in a major flightpath of Hartsfield Jackson Airport. She said that she needed to close out some things, then we would go. I took a while. It took a long while. By the time that she was about to leave the first tower fell. The room went silent for a bit. The older lady that worked with my wife yelled “Oh no!” and began weeping again.
My wife and I drove those forty minutes home with only a few words. She asked me if I was going back into the military. She asked if we were at war. I had no idea how to answer. We left and arrived at our home to find that the other building had fallen.
The next few days were odd. I asked Cate to take her vacation days and stay with my mother, outside of the city. I went back to work the next day. My boss didn’t show up that day but if he had I would likely have been fired.
My memories are somewhat jumbled and not very cohesive, but there they are. May our prayers and memories never cease.
I was working for a furniture installation company in Charlotte NC at the time. (Great job, set my own hours, I got paid to drive around and play all day building stuff. Good pay for a single guy.) I was working early, all by myself in a small doctor’s office at 8:30 assembling a five-shelf barrister’s bookcase. About 15 minutes in, my girlfriend Cindy (now wife) called me to tell me a plane flew into the WTC. We figured it was some nut in a Cessna that fell asleep behind the stick or something. About five minutes later, she called to tell me that it was a big airliner. Still thought it was some wierd accident. I told her to keep me posted. Another few minutes go by, and she called again to describe what she was seeing on TV. After another few minutes, she called to say another plane hit the other tower, and the news was calling it an attack. This was no accident. I felt sick and dizzy, I remember that. A foreign attack on American soil??
I felt strange and disconnected in my island of radio silence. I was assembling my little barrister’s bookcase, and WW III was starting. I finished up the bookcase and decided to call it a day. Cindy called as I was cleaning up to tell me another plane just flew into the Pentagon. It was absolutely surreal. We talked as I drove home, words Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden were bandied about; unfamiliar words to me. Things seemed to be spiralling out of control quickly…what next? The White House? Capitol? If the attackers were targeting centers of commerce, would Charlotte (a major banking center) be next? The uncertainty was unnerving. She told me the WTC tower collapsed soon before I got home. We spent the rest of the day together watching television (Fox: we were young but not stupid.)
I was expecting W’s speech that evening to be a thundering cowboy’s retort of righteous indignation: a firey amalgam of FDR, Patton, Reagan, and Churchill. I was, shall we say, underwhelmed by his response. Whenever I have to go through airport security I continued to be underwhelmed. They wanted to curtail American freedom, and they got it. And now Al-Qaeda is celebrating with our own tanks.
I had just returned from picking up a package at the airport customs… a sculpture that came in numbered pieces… and though I almost never watched CNN… That was what I turned on around 4 pm as I began unpacking and assembling the piece… and then was struck dumb as I watched the footage of the first plane and then as the second plane hit the second building and I immediately knew this was no accident…
That was also the time of our second intifada with bombings and terror attacks occurring in buses and even in corner restaurants… so that constant fear and situational awareness became ingrained in most Israelis then…
We have been used to searches at the entrance to malls and supermarkets for many decades…
But with all that, the fall of the towers struck me forcefully and brought me to my knees… I visited the site a couple of years later, a still raw and still ragged hole in the ground… that brought tears to my eyes and pain to my heart…
I was in Los Angeles and lived on the “Harbor Strip”. I had gone to my office a couple hours early to get some work done. It was easy to do that because my office was next door to my house.
I hadn’t looked at the news yet that morning. I was busily working away when my wife came in the door behind me and said “Darl*, what’s going on?”
(*She’s Australian, “Darl” is short for “Darling” but it doesn’t really mean anything more than “hey, you”. They say that to everybody …)
I thought she was asking me why I was working so early in the morning but when I turned around to look at her there she was in her nightgown, slippers and bathrobe, white as a sheet and trembling. So I knew we weren’t going to have a discussion about what I did to keep the bills paid.
It took a couple minutes to get her to tell me what the problem was that had put her in that state. I finally got out of her that something terrible had happened. Bear in mind, most Aussies don’t know American geography any better than most Americans know Darwin and Sydney are about as far apart as you can get in Australia. She didn’t know viscerally where this terrible thing was happening but she knew something really, really bad was going on.
So I clicked up Fox News and got the shock of my life. I was just in time to see the second plane hit the other tower. Unlike my wife, I recognized the Twin Towers immediately and knew rapidly this was happening on the other side of the continent. For a brief instant before I recognized the skyline I thought maybe this was in a foreign country. Simply because it took a few seconds to wrap my head around the fact that this was happening in New York City.
I knew we were in no immediate danger from that attack so the next thing was to get my wife calmed down and understanding that fact, which was obvious to me and needed to be pointed out to her.
As the reality of the WTC attack started to sink in we heard about the Pentagon attack and some time later that a plane had gone down with all souls somewhere in Pennsylvania. That was UAL93.
Which then made it obvious to me that this was a widespread action not isolated to only New York City. So …
Then I had to start thinking about exactly how widespread the attack might be and worst case scenario threats to my family and me. When in doubt, assume a threat until you know otherwise. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
My first thought along those lines was “What are they going to do if this isn’t over? What would I do if I were them and trying to hurt or kill as many Americans as possible? They might have started with a spectacular attack on well known, densely populated areas but … What else might they be doing?”
Bear in mind that we didn’t know WTF was going on yet. My most urgent thoughts were “How can I and mine be threatened?”
The image of Israeli homes, windows and doors covered in plastic and tape during the Gulf War came immediately to mind. I knew that any attempt to seal up my home was futile, it couldn’t be done to a building that age. If it could be done, it would mean slow suffocation for everyone inside. Still, if I were the unknown bad guys of unknown capability then bio/chem weapons would be my next choice.
I had visions of semi-trucks full of anthrax or something similar, with air pumps spewing a bio/chem agent out the top of them where it would not be obvious, driving up and down freeways in major American cities. After New York, Los Angeles was the next most major city. I knew I had some time because we didn’t live next to a freeway but hey, better safe than sorry.
Next most likely seemed a dirty bomb or bio/chem agent aboard a ship or in a container at the Port of Los Angeles. I lived in spitting distance of the port.
So I went to the bank, which is just a few blocks away and drew out as much cash as I could get. Then I went home, checked my weapons and ammo inventories and planned an evacuation route that would not involve freeways or proximity to freeways. Remember, this is Los Angeles. It’s a big place. I knew that the odds of a terrorist weapon that could harm me were very, very slim. My greatest primary concern at that point was not the terrorists. It was my fellow Los Angelenos.
Then I called my sister, she lived about a mile away. I explained the situation and my take on it to her and made arrangements for them to also load up a vehicle and get some cash on hand. My plan was if it became necessary to go we would meet up with them and form a two vehicle convoy. My wife, being from Oz hadn’t really gotten the hang of driving on the “wrong side of the road” to her so my sister would drive my vehicle, her husband would drive hers, and I’d be handling any application requiring weapons.
Then we packed the vehicle and hunkered down to await developments. Of course doing all this really, really scared the shit out of my wife. This is understandable because it was scaring the shit out of me too.
Afterwards, when it became clear that no further attacks would be forthcoming I felt a little silly. But only a little. I had automatically followed my training and was prepared if I needed to take direct action. I had identified any possible threat and taken what steps were available to me to counter such threats.
The fact that I viewed my fellow Angelenos as the most direct threat played a huge role in my decision to get the hell out of California. It would take me a dozen more years to achieve that but I was going to get out of there one way or another and I took my family with me.
We lost just under 3,000 lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack on America. In return we killed something north of 300,000 people from the countries that made those attacks possible.
Did we make a bunch of new enemies in the process? Don’t know. Don’t care. There are now a whole lot more people around the world that personally know from first hand experience and loss that if you mess with the U.S. we will return the favor at a ratio of at least 100:1. If you think your life is hard now, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
No matter who is in the Oval Office, that fact will never change. It is a fact written in indelible ink on the pages of history. You killed some of us and for your trouble we killed 100 of you for each one of us that you managed to take out.
That’s something that the Taliban, Iran, Russia and China and any other enemies real or potential need to bear in mind. It is not a matter of personalities or capabilities, it’s a matter of cold, hard facts.
That’s the kind of fact that protects the United States in spite of Mumblin’ Joe and the committee that pulls his puppet strings.
That’s what the Americans who died fighting the War on Terror died for. They didn’t die for whoever was in office, to prop up a regime in a foreign land or to test and improve weaponry. They didn’t die for oil, or minerals, or corporate profit. They died so that the people in office buildings, capital buildings, market places and mud huts around the world know that there is a terrible price to pay for attacking America. In that regard their mission was successful and every single one of them a patriot and a hero.
The truth is that the very existence of the United States of America is a net gain to the human condition on planet Earth. If you attack us, we’re coming for you and we won’t stop until you pay for your evil deeds. When it comes to America there is no better friend, no worse enemy …
Payback is a Class-A, Iron Hulled Ocean Going Bitch.
No airliner struck the Pentagon.
No al quiada (the base, meaning cia database) operatives highjacked any airliners that day.
No amount of jet fuel could possibly have collapsed those structures.
911 commission report was concluded in 48 hours.
#InsideJob
YYSW. It’s spelled “Al-Qaeda” or alternately “Al-Qaida” not “al quiada”. If you were as knowledgeable on the topic as you think, and even the tiniest bit literate you ought to have at the very least gotten that right. It’s so common it’s probably in the spell checker you also don’t seem to know how to use. It’s been in print often enough that it should have percolated into your brain sometime over the last 20 years. Clearly the amount of bone you have surrounding that organ is impermeable.
What’s funny is that you probably aren’t smart enough to realize what you did is on the same order as a five year old scrawling on the wall in crayon “aye R uh genie us”.
How humiliating for you.
There’s a bona fide aerospace engineer a few comments down who not only disagrees with that nonsense, he knew it was going to happen before it actually did. Because he knows a lot more about this than your little community of weirdos. Hmmm, who to listen to, an aerospace engineer or a guy in a tinfoil hat? Life is full of dilemmas, huh Sport?
Go breath some chemtrails. Get a few more HAARP rays while you’re out there because nuts like you are proof “mind control” doesn’t work. If the things you people claim are so were true, there wouldn’t be any people like you.
Which come to think of it is probably your greatest contribution to society.
Ah… yes… another visit from everyone’s favorite troll….
Sure is a lot of magical thinking going in your head, and hey, i’m living there rent free.
I’ll chalk it up to some kind of envy complex. We’re not all gifted…
There’s enough sand in your vagina to build a castle…
Go back to sleep, pappy…
Why do you avoid discussing this stuff and just post pronouncements, declarations, ad hominem childishness and links to the work of other idiots?
Because you don’t even understand it enough to defend it yourself.
If you were so ‘gifted’ you’d be able to support this crap you ooze with more than empty gradeschool caliber blithering. You don’t understand it, you can’t explain it, you just believe it. You’re not informed and educated, you’re convinced and that’s not the same thing.
I don’t need to make childish crude insults about your vagina to prove my point and you doing so does not prove yours. Nor is doing that anywhere near as impressive as you seem to think it is.
If you were a puppy I’d feel bad about kicking you around this way. You’re not and I don’t.
Isn’t internet a great thing, when out of actual arguments one can still hunt for typos and other distractions.
I love this kind of thing. Seriously, I do. It makes my day to see something like you said here. That’s why I’m so happy to respond at length and in great detail …
Isn’t education a great thing, where literacy and command of language are vitally important because all some people will ever know of you is what and how you write? It’s not like American English isn’t this guys mother tongue, is it? Or is he a foreigner who won’t tell us what European Model of Magnificent Malignant Socialist Success he lives in? Like you for instance?
Isn’t it reasonable to think that someone who claims to know a lot about a given thing would at least be able to spell it? Especially someone who knows so much that they confidently proclaim everyone else is wrong? There’s a degree of competence required if you’re making such claims. No one is perfect, anyone can make an honest mistake but seriously — If a foot doctor couldn’t spell ‘podiatrist’ correctly it might be a good idea to find another foot doctor.
Isn’t it likely that if grammar, syntax, spelling and usage (or in your case illogic and failed reading comprehension) are sloppy, haphazard and outright wrong then so too is the mind that put them on display in a public venue where the entire world could see?
Isn’t it interesting that “typo” is an abbreviation of the phrase “typographical error”. An error in typography is not the same thing as an error in spelling, grammar or syntax. Fat-fingering and miskeying are not the same things as not knowing how to spell something you’re claiming to be so familiar with as to tell everyone else that everything they know is wrong. Using “typo” as an umbrella to cover all ignorance displayed by a writer is the kind of thing someone equally ignorant tries to pull.
Isn’t it funny that the last refuge of ignorant, slothful and stupid people is to discount all of that and all the clues and information carried thereby?
Isn’t it downright weird that such stupid, slothful ignorant people don’t understand that information is conveyed above and beyond the meaning of words themselves. If someone makes a fist, draws his arm back, frowns at you with an angry grimace and snarls “I really like your face. It’s so pretty I would never consider punching it to a pulp” — Is there a point in there where someone as bright as you maybe gets an inkling there is more meaning conveyed than just the words?
Isn’t it weird that your reading comprehension is so abysmally poor that you accused me of “distraction” when that’s not what I did at all? Did you not read the rest of my post or did you just trigger and bleat? You’re known to do that, consider wearing a bib. Was I distracting from the nonsense that Shitbird was posting or was I deriding him in context for his ignorance? Did I change the subject from his obvious ignorance of the topic and lead away from that in the rest of my post? No I did not, I made my case consistently in the entire post.
Isn’t it a little pathetic that because I know you’re a little slow I’ll have to spell that out? My case was, from start to finish of my post — “Erin. You’re a dumbass and here’s how we know that.” Simple, huh? No distraction there at all. Glad I could help you out.
Isn’t the idea you expect me to believe you don’t know the difference between derision and distraction really just your own inability to grasp the topic I was addressing? I didn’t follow the topic you might have wanted me to but I didn’t distract a bit fromt he topic I wanted to follow. You can do that too if you like but … Hell, you’re probably lost by now because you don’t seem to be able to hold more than a couple sentences in context long enough to understand what someone is saying.
Isn’t it telling that you would say such a stupid thing? You do know the difference between derision and distraction don’t you? You are educated sufficiently to differentiate the two, right? Spoiler alert; I’m deriding you too, have you figured that out by now? Can you see the clear and obvious example I’m making for and of you? Because if so then your “distraction” bullshit is not a typo, that’s failed reading comprehension on your part.
Isn’t it fair — As long as you feel like you can accuse me of distraction I feel compelled to point out the idiocy of your accusation. In detail dripping with sarcastic derision. I’m sure you’ll agree that’s my prerogative, if you’re going to accuse then you at least have to get the accusation right. Or suffer the consequences. So let’s see if you can get this next concept …
Then like a child with a filthy face you point your grimy fingers and pout — “U meen nastee ol’ gRamr PohleeCes, we dunn’t nede noh stinkin’ grammur. How daire ewe hund up my tipos, poind owt my imbestupidies and call me ignant!”
Hey, I have an idea. By now it’s obvious that you have reading comprehension problems and probably aren’t all that bright too. So let me make this easy and very clear for you …
Piss off and go fondle yourself.
I find my myself chuckling at your responses. They are, for me, never TL;DR.
🙂
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA –
If you would like to do any real research, there are several videos about the construction of the twin towers from a structural standpoint. For the mid 70s it was very innovative. There are other videos that discuss what happens to metal when exposed to high temperatures: both items I and many others actually studied.
There is a video Bill did about granting the premise about there being the same type of implosion apparatus around the towers. It is very well done. Bill, for someone without training, has a nice handle on engineering practicalities.
Taken together, anyone with the science background would have come to the inescapable conclusion that a structure built as the towers were built and were subjected to intense heat, would collapse under its own weight.
Structural failure is always dramatic.
This is much more of an honest response than your drivel deserves.
You’re a better man than me. You are way, way more patient and kind. I cannot be bothered to try to explain things to people suffering from self inflicted idiocy. All I have for such people is ridicule and derision. Which no doubt drives them deeper into the idiotic hole they’ve dug for themselves.
I’ve had a lot of experience with such people.
Our buddy Erin here is only hearing what he wants to hear. He thinks we’re stupid because we don’t do the same as him. Seriously, he thinks he’s very smart and knows things we do not or refuse to learn. He thinks that makes him better than us. (I promise you that he and such people refer to us as “sheeple” in private conversation with others of their kind.) After all, he’s a genius because he knows the “truth” about things like “no amount of jet fuel could have collapsed those structures”.
Check me on this, you know more about engineering than I do and I’ll take your word for it …
When that plane hit it disintegrated immediately which released jet fuel like water poured through a sieve. All the jet fuel all in one big dump.
Only the vapor and surface area of the released jet fuel flashed into flames. The rest poured down long structures that go from the bottom to the top of the building all in a variety of contiguous “tubes”. Those are the elevator shafts, mechanical and electrical service shafts etc.. Which also house the structural elements that tie the building together both horizontally and vertically.
With a building that size those shafts act like a bunch of super-chimneys and create a tremendous vertical draft that sucks in cool, oxygen rich air from the bottom and spews superhot combustion products from the top. This is exactly the same mechanism that allows a fireplace to burn logs in a living room without filling it with smoke.
The weight of the fuel and debris falling down those shafts ruptured the bottoms enough to release burning fuel and admit air into the shafts. The surrounding structure acts to insulate and temporarily confine that jet of superheated material spanning basement to roof and intensifies the heat in those super-chimneys in a runaway thermal acceleration. Due to drafting and increased fuel/air mixture from turbulence the heat becomes an order of magnitude greater than fuel burning in a puddle on the ground would achieve.
In addition to the chimney effect a large quantity of burning fuel and now burning debris creates a thermal/pressure imbalance at the base of the structure that sustains the fire and adds to the drafting effect. This feeds even more fuel and oxygen into those shafts and acts like an injector from higher pressure at the base due to rapid expansion of both fuel and air from heating.
The chimneys are not only carrying a draft but they are heating and creating their own draft too.
All of this pulls fuel and oxygen into the vertical draft. That unrelenting heated blowtorch effect softens the steel and weakens the structure.
The structure due to its size and weight cannot bend or sag. It is so large and so heavy that it either stands or it does not. At some point a crucial member of the structure fails, this causes a cascade of failures subsequent to and rapidly propagating out from the crucial main failure. The building collapses catastrophically.
I’m not an aerospace engineer, I’m an IT engineer which is a completely different thing when it comes to material characteristics and dynamic thermal events. My formal education lends me no advantage at all over an engineer in your field. That’s how I understand the mechanism that brought those buildings down. How’d I do? Did it get the gist of it?
Here’s my point. If I came even close to what happened there’s no excuse for someone like Erin W. Hood to fail a similar degree of comprehension. The information is commonly available and easily grasped by any average intelligence on up. To take the position he maintains means a complete denial of reality and a total disregard for the physics involved.
People who do that are exhibiting what we experience when we intentionally suspend our disbelief to enjoy a movie. The difference is we return to reality when the movie ends and people like him apply that suspension of disbelief to their entire worldview. To them science, engineering and general common sense are malleable and anything is possible no matter how impossible it might seem to normal people.
So the most likely thing is whatever they want to believe no matter if it’s impossible or not.
Stop and consider for a moment what kind of man it takes to want to believe the impossible. What kind of mind it must take to accept as fact that there are conspirators so powerful and so secretive that they could successfully hide their role, from everyone but him and his ilk, in something so widely scrutinized as the downing of the Twin Towers.
Think of the lapsed mentality and shrivelled character of such a person who is willing to absolve the murderous barbaric perpetrators that slaughtered thousands of people and destroyed mega-millions in property while changing all our lives forever — Because he’d rather nurture his own nutty bias and not only hates his own side but actively advocates against his own people — Rather than blame the actual villains. Acting in that manner is not only inexplicable, it’s inexcusable and it’s evil.
He simply refuses to consider anything he does not want to see, nothing that does not fit his confirmation bias and his tainted worldview. He’s an ostrich with his head in the sand and his posterior in the air.
Which in my universe makes the part of him most prominently displayed a legitimate and irresistible target. Letting that target pass unengaged is not an option. If he’s going to act like that he’d better have a pretty thick hide because he deserves what he gets.
In my world he’s a dishonor to the uniform he appears to be wearing in his avatar and a disgrace to the the backdrop of the U.S. Constitution he’s posing in front of. (If that’s even him, I assume we’re meant to think it is.)
You’re a lot nicer to such people than I am. That’s a fault of mine, not yours. I’m not in any way criticizing you, I admire your restraint and self control. I know I’m being a prick to him and not only am I aware of that fact, I immensely enjoy doing it too. Perhaps a bit too much.
Try this, pappy….
https://www.drjudywood.com/wp/presentations/
LOL, you think the Twin Towers were brought down by magic rays, never seen before and never used anywhere else in the world against any enemy foreign or domestic! Magic rays that could smite our enemies with impunity and reduce their capitals and military installations to dust and rubble, with impunity — And we’ve only ever used them on ourselves because that is what fits your conspiracy mania.
I knew you’re not real bright but I didn’t think even you could be that imbecilic.
Energy weapons are a reality. They’re in the development and testing phase currently. That part is true and here’s a site by Lockheed Martin that deals with it. This is LOCKHEED MARTIN not some unknown crazy lady that thinks she knows something impossible.
https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/capabilities/directed-energy.html
Why is it impossible to have taken down two major and one minor skyscraper in New York City on September 11th, 2001 with any sort of “directed ‘free’ energy” weapon?
Because the power source required to do that does not exist and even if it did exist could not be concealed.
There is no means of generating enough electrical force that would project any sort of energy beam far enough through atmosphere to accomplish what we all saw and have seen, on every sort of screen by every source of media, recorded from every possible angle and distributed all over the world, since that day.
To put things in perspective, one average lightning bolt contains roughly ONE BILLION (1,000,000,000) joules of energy and the Twin Towers were repeatedly struck many times by lightning with no ill effect. Not so much as a scratch.
The attached picture of such a lighting strike did nothing significant to that structure but you believe that some invisible, force no one can prove exists and no one could have detected being used was powerful enough to knock down not one but three buildings. Without microwaving and cooking everyone in the vicinity, making hair fall out for miles around and causing women to give birth to frogs. That would be real “magic”.
To power that would take something like a nuclear pumped X-ray laser or particle beam. Even that is not likely to succeed with current technology. Just directing that much force destroys the thing directing it. Spectacularly, obviously and undeniably. A particle beam would be visible, an X-ray laser likely not. There was no nuclear detonation in line-of-sight to New York City on 9/11/2001, not on the Earth or in space. Something like that is not a thing you can hide from the world.
The thermal/electrical atmospheric bloom from such an event of sufficient energy would be fierce, covering several city blocks if the discharging device was more than point blank range away. Even in close proximity the side effects (energy lobes) to surrounding buildings and organic material would be undeniable. There was no discharge, EMP or other effects of bloom in the vicinity of the Twin Towers that day.
That’s the end of that discussion. It doesn’t matter what else you have to say. Clearly you know even less about electrodynamics than you do thermodynamics. Just a modest education would suffice, clearly you do not possess even that much.
Oh, wait, let me guess … You DO have an explanation for where the power for your magic rays came from, don’t you? The U.S. Government got that power from your little buddies, the LGM and BEM in flying saucers, huh? And their magical power source and alien tech is so magical that no obvious use of an energy weapon was witnessed, detected or recorded too. How very convenient your magic is.
ROFLMAO
Yeah, your accusation of “magical thinking” is absurd too. If there’s magical thinking here it’s all in the tiny void between your ears.
That you would choose to believe this kind of nonsense and lack the good sense to avoid exposing such a ridiculous belief here proves everything I’ve said about you.
That word “troll” doesn’t mean what you think it means either. that’s just you trying to shut me up without actually saying anything that makes any actual sense. Just because you say stupid things and I get a kick out of exposing just how stupid those things you say are does not make me a troll. Facts, figures, real science and the rest of what I’m bringing to bear here are the opposite of trolling. If you’d like me to actually start trolling you I’m more than happy to do that because you have made it clear you more than deserve that kind of treatment.
C’mon, big man, put your big-boy pants on, hitch ’em up real tight and defend your position. Whip some of that magical science on me, I dare you.
All of what you have is close enough that I can tell you’ve researched it quite a bit. People think steel is magic and once put into place in a structure it takes some type of explosion to damage the structure. Heat does very nicely.
The counter argument of “office materials” only burning at 450F ignores the pressence of a very significant, and large quantity, of jet fuel. Combined with pressure, the heat was quite sufficient to damage the outside structure of the towers. In this case the lower the strike, the more likely to cause the tower to drop, due to the enormous weight above.
For us at work it was one of those blink moments. We just knew. The analysis came much later.
Lol, I’ve hidden behind steel wishing I had a LOT more of it and thereby lost all faith in its magic powers. Spalling is a bitch. I had zero problem believing the steel structure of those towers could get hot enough to fail. I’ve seen steel compromised by burning fuel before, much, much smaller examples but still .,.
I’m not an engineer so that was my non-engineer grasp of how those buildings came down. I’m sure it’s not wholly technically accurate and I know I’ve got a pressure off here or a draft off there or some other inconsistencies but that’s the way I understood the wreck of the towers.
When you’re well versed, informed, educated or whatever gives you real depth on a subject, like you guys with your engineering background — There’s a subliminal or subconscious process in your mind that most people call intuition but is actually just that amazing human brain connecting the dots without going through the formalities. “Blink moment” is as good a way to describe it as any.
I’ve seen it spelled al-Qaeda, al-Qa’ida, al-Qāʿidah and even القاعدة but I’ve never seen a “u” in it. Maybe you have access to super secret Arabic?
As for “the base, meaning cia database”, al-Qaeda can be translated as “the base” or as “the foundation”, referring to the foundational underpinning and support they offer to multiple violent salafist groups across the globe. The Arabic for database is qaeidat albayanat.
I’m prepared to believe the CIA get up to all sorts of dirty tricks, I know that they drop a bollock now and then. What I’m not prepared to believe is that they leave delightful little word game type clues for people to figure out their nefarious plots.
You have been smoking something that is very detrimental to your cognition. I watched the replays of the first tower being hit by one plane, and I watched live the second tower get hit by a second plane. I watched live as the Pentagon was hit by a third aircraft, and I walk past a piece of that concrete structure everyday I go to work — it’s engraved with the names of peple who died in the Pentagon that day. You really need to listen to witnesses to those past events and ignore the fictions you’ve found online.
Is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SL2PzzOiF8 the footage that you saw?
If not, please post the archive that shows the plane hitting P.
There is no question about an explosion at Pentagon, the pesky missing part is the plane. Both on video and the photos taken afterwards.
There’s plenty “debunking” work applied to the case, they talk pages about hole size and everything explaining possibilities — but just ignoring the main issue.
Also some of the quoted whitnesses were even more likely smoking something,
<<“It was absolutely a plane, and I’ll tell you why,” says Kilsheimer, CEO of KCE Structural Engineers PC in Washington, D.C. “I saw the marks of the plane wing on the face of the building. I picked up parts of the plane with the airline markings on them. I held in my hand the tail section of the plane, and I found the black box.” >>
Wow, it’s so easy to push that down button. I thought around here people would up to the actual challenge of say showing that missing plane from Pentagon instead of jerk reaction worthy of twitter blue marks.
20 years should have been enough to find it or we need another 20 before the emperor can be officially claimed to be naked?
Jet fuel can actually collapse structures. Most (well, some) engineering programs have fire design and check facility, modeling the effect of fire over time. The building standards require modeling proof to withstand at least 35 minutes of regular fire, for special circumstances may require much more. With the safety margins the structure is likely last longer. But even if everything is applied properly (that often turns out not be the case), if the fire is fiercer and lasts longer, it will lead to failure.
The question is not that, but whether what the timing was in the case. For the collapse of towers the most interesting thing is not the collapse itself, but how it happened. Going down nice and vertical is huge challenge even when you are in demolition business and control everything.
If you hit a tower on the side, you expect the failure happen at that portion while the other side holds more together. So the top part will gain rotation and slide, fall to the side. Seeing not one but 2 towers going down in a pretty unlikely way again would warrant some explanation instead of the crickets mimiking the hunter biden laptop reporting.
We also know that relevant stock market movements preceeded the event. If the thing was arranged by the claimed pesky terrorists — and leading to trimming all kind of rights of citizens in name of “war on terror”, the most natural thing would be to lift all secrets of the books and expose who was behind those transactions. Yet someone arranged that following the money not happening.
I can tell you how WWIII starts, and give you an approximation of when:
Sometime between Jan 2022 and Nov 2024, Iran attacks Israel. They are confident they will succeed, because they have an intimate knowledge, right down to tech/maintenance manuals and service history, of every piece of American made equipment the Israeli Defense Force has, sold to them by the Taliban. They also know absolutely that the US will not come to Israel’s aid. The withdrawal from Afghanistan taught them that. By the time they start their war, the Chinese invasion of Taiwan, while the US stood idly by, may have reinforced that knowledge.
At some point Israel gets tired of the game and nukes Iran.
Voila, WWIII has officially begun.
So, anyone prepping for SHTF Day…. for practical purposes, you have until New Year’s Day.
Alternate beginning, same timeline:
China invades Taiwan. They have the same confidence as above, for the same reasons.
Japan defends Taiwan. The US does nothing.
China nukes Taiwan.
Voila.
I really hate to say it, but both of the scenarios you lay out seem entirely (and terrifyingly) possible in the current circumstances. However you cut it, the next few years look hugely more dangerous than they did before the former Vice President’s utter clusterfudge in Afghanistan.
I remember where I was and what I was doing that day, and two others that people who alive remember. I was at home sick from school when Kennedy was shot. The news broke in to say he was shot. At that time they did not know he was dead. My mother did not believe me at first. I watched the moon landing live when I was 14. Later, I “met” Neil Armstrong. Put now old blog here titled “My encounter with Neil Armstrong”. Warning. It’s not that interesting. I was driving my father to the cardiologist when the radio mentioned the first collision on 9/11. I saw the second one live at the doctors office. At that time, we knew it was an attack. Like Bill, I thought all mass, well known meetings ware ripe for attack. It was the last time I remember leading Democrats singing “God bless America.” Now I think those leaders would burst into flames if they tried. Never forget. I can’t.
Sitting in my office, when one of the shop supervisors came in looking ashen. She was from Staten Island, I was Bronx and Westchester. She told a plane had just hit the twin towers. Thought it was an accident. I was one of the few with full internet access so we put on CNN.
My next thought was my brother had an event at Window on the World that morning so I tried to call him. No answer. It was until about 1130 my mom called to tell me that he had gone to the doctor before the event due to some urgent issue; which saved his life. He had been on his way down when the first plane hit.
Second thought, as we sat watching the burning, was when a structural engineer looked at me and asked me (aerospace eng) how hot does jet fuel get when it burns?
I told him and we both got ashen. He looked at where the planes hit and we both knew, those towers were coming down. And there was nothing we could do about it. Helpless feeling
Bill – is correct. We have given our enemy a great recruiting event. When you put a bunch of bad actors together they will figure out something to do. It is now inevitable.
I fully sympathize with how you felt regarding your brother on that morning. That’s a terrible, terrible feeling. Basically you try to maintain hope but “know” deep-down inside that your worst fears are going to be confirmed any minute. When the good news finally comes, no matter if it’s minutes, hours or days later, the relief is indescribable.
There were an amazing number of “coincidental escapes” like your brother had. Those buildings at that time of day should have collectively held between 6 and 10 thousand people. There are a lot of stories like you have about your brother. It’s amazing that less than 3,000 died and that includes fatalities experienced by firefighters, police and emergency medical responders.
It would have been higher but those emergency personnel worked ceaselessly to evacuate the buildings right up to the moment of collapse. They died saving others from the fate they themselves refused to avoid. They knew that the second they ran they were dooming others to death and in the finest tradition of American exceptionalism they did not run. There is no greater human measure of character nor finer tribute to the amazing people they were than that.
I realize my reply to you above is pretty lengthy but I just cannot stomach a worm who tries to absolve their murderers by shifting the blame elsewhere. Such people are beneath contempt.
Biden gave the malignant forces of Islam the very best gift they could ever hope for – a real reason to celebrate on the twentieth anniversary of the infamous attacks.
Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is the very definition of treason. YOU MISTER BIDEN ARE A TRAITOR!
I’ve believed that since the day he was sworn into office – illegally.
Pretendent Biden is a traitor and a fool. We endured a number of terrorist attacks during Obama’s disastrous years in office. Because of how Biden withdrew from Afghanistan, terrorist attacks will most likely start up again. He deserves to be removed from the office he stole.
Yesterday in Panjshir valley 300 Taliban were killed. They had been flown in by helicopter, Pakistani we suspect, to take a building that was barely defendable surrounded by mountains filled with warriors. They were there to get propaganda photos of them in control of the Panjshir capitals buildings and the grave of Ahmad Shar Massoud. He was assassinator by al Qaeda two days before 9/11. The Taliban leadership must have known that they were sending their men to their death. The position is surrounded by a 4000 strong Panjshir resistance/ Northern Alliance force under command of Ahman “the Cub” Massoud. The son of the older Massuod. Ahmad Shar trained his son well and the son also studied at Sandhurst and King’s College London.
The propaganda stunt failed. Almost no one is willing to go to the Taliban swearing in ceremony, which has been delayed twice, because everyone knows its a cruse missile strike away from ending loudly. The fight goes on.
Thanks, Bill! Great reminder of what we, as a country, should never forget!
Excellent work. I would rate this right up with the Atomic Bomb Firewall.
I was working as an Application Developer for a small telemarketing comany just outside of DC. Everyone was on edge all day, and some chose to go home while others chose to stay & work to keep their minds off of things. A nearby road had significant trucking traffic that would make the occasional loud bang or bump when they’d hit potholes. On most days it happened so often you wouldn’t notice, but on this day every loud outside noise had everyone on edge.
Despite being just a Developer I was still kind of one of the leaders in the company and I finally went out to address eveyone on the floor. I said to them, “Look, this building has three telemarketing companies in it. If terrorists want to anger the American people, they’e not going to do it by attacking telemarketers. We are probbaly in the safest building in the DC area”
Yeah, inappropriate gallows humor, but I could see an immediate wave of relief go across the floor as people put things in perspective.
I was a squadron CO of a CH-46 Squadron based in NC but operating out of a WV guard base about 90 minutes flight time from downtown Manhattan doing squadron training.
We were flying almost exclusively at night so our workday didn’t really start until early afternoon. I was training for Ironman so I had left that morning about 0630 for a 4 hour bike ride. This was before cell phones were common and I certainly didn’t have one, so when I returned about 1030, I found the gate locked and the civilian security guards looking pretty grim. They knew me of course, so they opened up and let me in. I didn’t stop and chat but I figured they conducting an exercise or something. I started riding towards our housing and one of our maintenance vehicles rolled up beside me with a couple of my Marines inside and they were looking grim as well. I asked them why everyone looked so glum. One of my Lieutenants said: “didn’t you hear what happened?” Uh, no, I’ve been riding my bike for the last four hours so no, I didn’t hear what happened. WHAT HAPPENEDED? He said two planes hit the WTC. I heard the words, I understood the words, but the words didn’t make any sense. They rode on as they were on a mission, I rode on to our housing unit and went inside to find all my field grade staff glued to the TV.
Our flight schedule was canceled of course and we immediately made plans to fly our aircraft (we had 6 CH-46’s ready to go) to NYC to assist with the rescue operations but we were not needed. We remained grounded for a day or it might have been two, but we recommenced our training activities and prepared for what we knew was likely to be a memorable deployment.
I recall waking that morning to the sound of the clock radio playing what should have been the morning music only to hear the announcement that a plane had hit the first WTC building. I thought it was a particularly bad joke being aired by the station’s DJ, and then something prompted me to get up and turn on the television. Then my wife and I were visually accosted by the atrocities of the day.
Later that morning, I was introduced, for the first time in my life, the rampant fear that quickly manifests in the minds of many people. You see, I’ve worked at this National Laboratory since September of 1996, and that day, five years later, I was exposed to the innate fears of my coworkers who were afraid that the terrorists would target this place next, in spite of the fact that this facility is in a relatively-isolated part of Northern New Mexico. We all went home for the rest of the day.
Looking back upon the responses of my colleagues that particular day reinforces in my mind that we should never be surprised by the cowardly acts of fearful men — both those terrorized and those terrorizing. Rather we must stand up and defend those people, things and ideals we value — like has recently been done by some enraged parents in A New Hope — one battle at a time.
