Are you the bad guy?

What I am finding really heartbreaking …. how people are so bad at identifying the villain.

Tyrants dress themselves in virtue and the people perceive the tyrants to be ‘the good guys’  – the ‘bad guys’ are the groups the tyrants identify and condemn and the people relish the condemnation and attacks on those ‘bad guys’.

In the US we are witnessing this today – those with institutional power condemning others and the media and people go along with it.  Any who speak out in opposition are condemned and attacked in the streets, with the media covering up the crimes or even cheering them on.  People are censored, silenced, their employers are intimidated into firing them and any who support the victims are also attacked.

Those who hate call others hateful.

Those who lie call others lairs.

Those who condemn based on race call others racist.

If you find yourself feeling hatred toward another group, you are the bad guy.

If you support punishments outside of the law and legal due process, you are the bad guy.

If you support rule via any means that does not have the consent of the governed expressed through free and fair elections, you are the bad guy.

Isaiah 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Was reading through the Old Testament several months back and those were my exact my thoughts. It’s eye-opening almost how little has changed.

I think it is worse than that, many don’t even realize that is what they are doing.

There’s none so blind as those who will not see.
You can’t make people see the truth when believing a lie is more comfortable and much less effort.

Indeed, … If I hate them, I can claim to be righteous ….. that makes me a good person.
