Can Schumer Force GOP Senators to Cross Trump, Call for Impeachment Witnesses?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sends the articles of impeachment over to the Senate, where Sen. Chuck Schumer plans to force swing-state Republicans to vote on whether to bring witnesses to the trial. Will moderate Senators cross President Trump in a desperate effort to save their seats in states where public opinion favors witness testimony?

I wouldn’t have a problem with them deciding (as I think they should) that the evidence the Democrats deemed as sufficient for conviction is the evidence that should be judged.
I would also not have a problem with them deciding that each side gets to bring new witnesses to the table, with Trump getting to force the Bidens, Schiff, Ciaramella and the rest of them to testify.
What I am categorically not OK with is what Rand Paul says he fears will happen: Schiff & Co will get to call their witnesses, but Trump won’t get to call his.

How can you tell if this was a great segment?
I think that now I am more confused than before…
It was all clear until Scott gave his closer, and it made me
think
Very good indeed

I’m not sure who is out of touch with the viewers of this show, me or them. Since they get to see the youtube metrics on their show and get feedback from others, I suspect it is me that is the one that is out of touch.

That being said, I suspect there are plenty of others like me in the Bill Whittle crowd that view Scott Ott’s stance as one of great integrity. I suspect there are others in the crowd that are less concerned with Trump and more concerned with the ideals of the country. I suspect there are some that would rather preserve those ideals over Trump, if the two ever came in conflict.

I guess what I’m getting at is that we’re all adults here and if Trump is deserving of some kind of criticism, we’re able to hear it without thinking you’ve sold out to the Dems. But again, maybe I’m just out of touch.

OH Brother!! If the Dims had followed “The Process” they would have waited until the results of the 2020 election. Instead of a bipartisan vote, they muscled their way through at least
THREE despicable shams to impeach our president. I DO CARE that our president stays in his duly elected office, Scott, but I am not surprised that YOU don’t. Hold on to your process high horse, because if Trump is taken down you may need a fast horse to get to safety from those on the Left when they start their next tyrannic action against all of us. The Leftist malfeasance against We the People, our Constitution, our elections and our POTUS is truly criminal. That is the PROCESS we are seeing now.

Sadly, I firmly believe that the Dems, progressives, left, communists, socialists and wack-a-doodles have only “One” goal…. Destroy the US and rebuild it in their image…. They will do anything and I literally mean anything to accomplish that end… God save us all if they succeed ….

The problem with making process paramount is that it is a human created set of rules or procedures designed to achieve a divine/intangible result: justice, truth, “equality”… As it is created by man, process is subject to abuse. People can and will manipulate the process to reach an end that is a travesty of those divine principles. The phrase often used is obeying the letter rather than the spirit of the law. The other thing people do, is they become so enamoured with the process, they lose sight of what they are trying to achieve. They are not being nefarious, they simply have become fascinated with the bark on the trees when they should be seeing the forest, and sun dappled meadows beyond. You can only put process on a pedestal when the people following it are flying up there with the angels. It’s a means, not an end in itself.

Wow! 2 Barbara’s disagreeing w Scott and his desire for integrity. Do you not know, we are already seeing progressives destroy themselves. Maybe, like Iran, they will back down and lick their wounds (never, ever die off, I’m with Bill on that, the grass will always need to be mown) for a time.
Bernie and his mentoree Pocahantas are also in the process of learning their lesson that America doesn’t want Socialism, Communism, not even Progressivism.
Let us fight a fair fight, even though they fight dirty, unfair, underhanded.
They won’t win.

Expecting politicians to “do the right thing” is, unfortunately, a fantasy. Those who would do the right thing either don’t pursue office or get out early to prevent personal corruption.

“Doing the right thing” for whom and for what purpose? It is rather like success depends as much on your goal as what you do to reach it.

Unfortunately, “the right thing” is most often to stay in office long enough to be able to steal enough public money so you can retire in luxury. All without doing anything of value such as defending individual rights and working to sustain the republic.

I am almost of the belief that to run for public office disqualifies you for that office.

I am almost of the belief that to run for public office disqualifies you for that office.

I lean in that direction of thought as well. I tend to elaborate a little by saying that those who run for and attain public office should never be trusted.

to the degree that you may be referring to State and federal law makers, I mostly agree… But, there are many of us “elected officials” who have (basically) no influence on public policy or law. Those of us in those positions really should not be “lumped” into the fore mentioned group….I know this may sound naive, but I firmly believe that there are many lower echelon political figures who work very hard to maintain a “righteous” attitude and work ethic and do their jobs honestly and with vigor…. just felt needed to be said…

The few who do “maintain a ‘righteous’ attitude and work ethic and do their jobs honestly and with vigor…” are most likely the ones who keep things from going completely off the rails.

In my years of working with/for large and small organizations, it is very very difficult (close to impossible) to do better than the organization in which you are embedded no matter how good you are or how hard you work. The rest of the organization almost always changes so as to nullify the good you actually get accomplished. Entropy always gets maximized.

Can’t argue with the “entropy” issue. After 45 years as a public servant, I’m a bit jaded and not what I used to be. But, I am very fortunate that my organization has upheld its responsibilities and ethics very well and I will put my people up to pretty much any scrutiny anyone wants to throw at us… Absolute FACT… We ain’t perfect and we’ve had our “bad days”…..

… there are many lower echelon political figures who work very hard to maintain a “righteous” attitude and work ethic and do their jobs honestly and with vigor.

Granted. However, there are many in those same ranks who do not. Consider Illinois and New Mexico for starters. Consequently, my distrust for public figures is a default position that can be altered with exposure.

Ronald Reagan was known to say “trust but verify” in the context of nuclear disarmament. I tend to just require the verification portion, because trusting public figures allows for corruption of the same.

However, I did originally qualify my short comment with “I tend to elaborate a little,” because ramblings like this one are just too d@%^ed time-consuming.

I am almost of the belief that to run for public office disqualifies you for that office.
Yes, Groucho! But, we are seeing politicians (think, Cruze) who are proving they have integrity. Let’s see more!

An almost lone wolf crying in the wilderness. That we scrape by because of the few does not justify the masses who are out to destroy the republic. It is by a thin thread that we survive. Not good enough!
