President Trump tweets that he might deliver his Republican Convention nomination address at “the Great Battlefield of Gettysburg” or from the White House. Should either site be polluted with partisan politics? Would Gettysburg send a message of civil war, or could it give Trump an opportunity to echo Abraham Lincoln’s magnanimous, uniting spirit?

This may sound funny…But the lack of enthusiasm will be a clear indicator of how serious the mood of Americans really is. It will reflect how stresses we are by un-ending lockdowns (Democrats), the riots (supported by the Democrats), the damage to our economy (also supported by the Democrats).
Any level of reflection tells us who that benefits.
May Trump speak what we feel, feel what we mean, and mean what he says.I am done with the pleasantries. The Democrats need a thorough Trumping in this election. They are destructive and reckless.
This may be the first New Years that we celebrate more the exit of the current and less the coming of a one.
If Trump goes to Gettysburg, he should start his speech, speaking in November, Twelve score and 4 years ago, our Forefathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that All Men Are Created Equal”….etc… Although, most people now days don’t remember that great speech Lincoln wrote on the train to Gettysburg. I remember having to memorize it in school.
Webmaster: I have had issues when using your auto correct function. Sometimes the sentence or paragraph I was typing just disappears when I try to correct one of my many mis-typings. I have observed this at least 3 or 4 times now. I hope you can find and correct the cause of this problem.

David, thanks, just moved my comment there. We shall see what happens.
I am glad that Bill was initially ambivalent about Trump’s speech location. Puts things in a somber proper mood. My own thought is that if Mr. Trump wants to go to Gettysburg to give a speech, he should do so as the POTUS seeking to unify the country across the divisions so apparent these last few months (or maybe years). As POTUS he has the authority to be there, especially if he clearly signals that he is not trying to upstage Lincoln. Riding on Lincoln’s coat tails while seeking enhanced national unity would still be valid.
But for the acceptance speech of a political party, he is expected to be and should be rather more partisan. Therefore, given the security and other logistical aspects, I would prefer he do that speech in DC, and if really necessary, at the White House. But then I would prefer a lower symbolic location such as the Rose Garden or maybe the press room; certainly not from the Oval Office. But since he goes where he needs to go for any other purpose, the security limitations element is something of a smoke screen and he can pretty easily get a secure venue somewhere away from the WH proper. Setting up at the WWII memorial would be symbolic enough; just stay away from the Washington, Jefferson, or Lincoln memorials (also MLK and FDR, of course).
When I first heard about using the WH I thought that made the most sense, as long as he did it in front of a drape with the RNC logo and nothing “Office of the President” or WH marked. The Oval Office I think should be right out.
An outdoor location I think would work too, though there is the security concern. At first I was thinking Gettysburg wouldn’t be fitting either but after the “unite the country” comment and that being more in line with the Republican Party message (again!) I think it could be fitting.
We are in the middle of the second civil war in which it is the idea of an American Republic against the Democratic idea of destroy the republic by any means necessary. It is the same as the first civil war where only minor details differ.
I say play the symbolism for all it is worth and highlight with a thousand laser beams what is going on. Make the Democrats OWN their ideas 100%.
Make America, America again!
Calls for a second civil war, or claims that we are in (or almost in) one now — or that we are facing TWANLOC* — are disturbing, even if they are a bracing splash of cold water in the face as to how serious the situation is becoming. But we are far from a situation requiring anyone to give “the last full measure of devotion”. Past protests (Shay’s Rebellion to Ferguson, etc.) have been very kinetic and people have died, but civil war did result. Responsible local or federal government responses returned things to some manageable condition of civil stability, lawfulness, and possibly justice.
Not being close to real civil war does not mean we should be lax or not prepare and be prepared for one. But are you really ready to shoot your brother in law who lives across town or in another state because you and he hold different political views, even rabidly so? The more liberal friends you have known for 40 years when your children grew up together and now have children of their own? No one knows how such a conflict would play out in reality, but our considerable geographic intermingling might pit neighbor against neighbor, not just generally identifiable red vs. blue regions. And the role of the real military is unclear as to what commands from which authorities they would follow.
Let’s make (or keep) America Great Again. But we also need to make America honest, virtuous, responsible, and reality oriented. We are in this populist uprising situation not simply because the Democrats/ progressives/ leftists/ socialists/ communists/ anarchists have infiltrated and distorted our traditional institutions (up through the SCOTUS), but because the Republicans and conservatives failed to recognize and stop what was happening. Voices were raised, from Moynihan, Rush, Dr. Zero, Whittle, Levin, and many more, but they are only now helping to turn the tide as the leftists’ successes, along with their issues and limitations, are becoming obvious to all. Thank goodness for the internet!
Opps. Forgot the footnote.
For those who have not seen it already, TWANLOC stands for Those Who Are No Longer Our Countrymen. Seems to have originated with commentator Subotai Bahadur over at PJMedia, and specifically on Belmont Club. He is a retired policeman of Chinese and German parentage, not a flakey person at all, but he make a serious charge that merits careful consideration before applying it to any particular person you may know.
“No longer our countrymen” identifies well many of those rioting in our streets.
There is a very fine line between “populist uprising” and “civil war.” By some definitions of the latter, that line has been crossed many times since the 1960’s. I suggest that nobody be so dismissive of those who classify the many among us as TWANLOC (https://moneyrunner.blogspot.com/2019/07/twanloc-those-who-are-no-longer-our.html). Consider the Congressional fools like AOC and Ohmar — their words and deeds definitely qualify them as TWANLOC. Unfortunately, there are many other fools in the electorate who put them into office.
Based solely upon the IQ scale, 50% of the world’s population has an IQ <=100. Note that it is a short distance from 100 to the US Army’s cutoff-for-eligibilty of 85. I believe it is reasonable to conclude that you can’t fix stupid.
For those higher-IQ idiots who vote for these TWANLOC fools, I leave you with the words of Samuel Adams:
Good link and comment at The Virginian. Thanks.
But the line between populist uprising and civil war is not, or should not be, all that “fine”. That line needs to be clearly debated and identified before tyranny from any source (or either side) is truly implemented. Who decides, using what criteria, etc. My point was that aside from the CW 1.0, past uprisings have not yet led to war.
They “hate” us and “they are no longer our countrymen in spirit”, but what does that really mean? Our republic was designed to minimize the impact on actual governmental policy and actions of hateful passions and of lower IQ members of the electorate. If they are merely ignorant, can they be re-educated (re-indoctrinated or re-propagandized?) towards our preferred viewpoint? If they are not capable of being rationale and only respond emotionally can they be medicated? If they pursue treasonous or seditious action, do we try, convict, and imprison, deport, or execute them? Shoot them on sight? If they elect politicians like AOC and Omar, do we classify the whole congressional district as TWANLOC? In fact, are we better off with “reasonable” Democrats elected from those districts or the demented squad that can be more easily mocked and ignored?
We are as human and subject to emotion as any on the other side, but as conservatives our response is supposed to be able to back away from that, focus on reality, accept responsibility for what really needs to be done, and thereby achieve and maintain our liberty.
Kamala Harris as VP? Who are they kidding. Kamala will eat Biden alive and spit out his bones. Biden will vanish before the election.
October surprise? Not at all surprising. Biden won’t be mentioned beyond October10th.
What more evidence do you need to see the second civil war is here?
Something more closely approximating the first one: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pictures+of+civil+war+dead&t=opera&ia=web
Right now it is an intellectual/philosophical civil war with a good bit of highly destructive rioting tossed in for good measure. The dead bodies you will see is our individual rights and the principles that make them so. Unless and until we fight back with equal or greater vigor, the civil war will continue.
We need an intellectual/philosophical Sherman march to the sea on the demented left of left. It is a matter of life or death and not simply a matter of a difference of opinion.
Opps #2: “… but civil war did not result.”
