Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, understands democracy better than Republicans do because she wants to abolish the electoral college and choose the president by national popular vote, according to Jamelle Bouie in The New York Times. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-TX, says AOC doesn’t grasp the difference between a democracy and a republic. But did the Framers intend to establish rule by minority? Is AOC the leading Constitution scholar of our day?

How electoral voters are chosen in California: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/electoral-college/
It’s time we pulled a Klingon maneuver and turned our backs on this idiot. She is without knowledge or honor.
Have you ever seen a county by county of the electoral map?
The fact that Demonrats outnumber Republicans, but a Republican won the presidency, is a testament to God’s sovereign power. This country is running on the fumes of the founder’s wisdom. As God’s strong delusion rallies more voters to engrave a D on their hearts, control will ultimately swing to the party of evil and the Overton window will slide evermore leftward.
Why stop at eliminating the Electoral College? Why recognize the Senate? Or the States?
The Founders were quite aware of the dangers of a direct democracy. They were fully aware of the people in Athens who were democratically banished from the city or executed by popular vote, probably lead by some ancient version of a community organizer w/ an axe to grind against the poor bastard who was at the fuzzy end of the mob.
A republic of sovereign states elects a president based upon the will of individual states rather than the whims of individuals. A democracy is tyranny imposed by a mob.
This made more sense back when the states were actually sovereign. They’re much more like provinces these days. Or worse, postal codes.
EDIT: reminded of an incident just after 9-11. Some European was confused why Gulianni was directing all the EMS and related security/rescue efforts in NYC. Bush is President, he out ranks Gulianni.
Nope. Gullianni is not in Bush’s chain of command and NOT answerable (excluding extreme circumstances approved by congress) to the President of the United State. Therefore, in NYC Gulianni is the senior authority. Not Bush. Natuarlly there’s a lot of fuzziness in there, but that’s how it’s supposed to work.
I thought we were an autonomous collective…
Is “autonomous collective” either/or or both/and?
