As Trey Gowdy said, defunding/disbanding police departments is the stupidest idea ever heard.
But maybe for those who wish to disband the USA it is the smartest idea that they have ever had.
I watched a video some years ago about the idea that there are really only two forms of government–that in which the people live free and that in which people live under tyranny. And between the two is anarchy.
People living in freedom must live by personal responsiblity and internal control of their own behavior. By that there can be order and security as people see the that they must live in such a way that they do not infringe on the freedom of others, nor must those “others” infringe on our freedoms. But when that breaks down, when people no longer have any sense of responsibility to anyone but themselves and their own desires (and sometimes perversions and selfishness and comfort), they begin to act in such a way that more and more becomes anarchy. At first it may be just in small things, but the more that they get away with that, the more that they will move into more of it. And eventually the society breaks into full scale anarchy. NO ONE wants to live in that as a society and they beg for someone to bring order–not freedom but order. And that is where the tyrant steps in. The tyrant will bring order by clamping down so tight that the anarchist have to stop their lawless behavior on penalty of death in the streets. And the result is orderly misery and enslavement.
Now to the point about the leftists demanding the abolishment of police. Anyone with two healthy brain cells to rub together knows that this will bring about crime and anarchy to a degree that has not been seen in this country. And we won’t be able to stand it. We will beg for someone to bring order. And the tryrant steps in!
Is this not exactly what the leftist elite wants? They want power at all costs, and this is a perfect way to get it: bring on anarchy and then restore order without freedom of any sort. So much of what has happened with the lockdowns has set the stage for this by making Americans subject to the orders to flatten the curve–and to flatten our resistance to tyranny. And we gave in, even after it became more and more clear that this was not longer about a virus. And then came the riots, encouraged by those same leftist elites, and anarchy begins. The defunding of police will hasten this day.
What can we expect after so much time of coddling children with the idea that the whole object of life is to eat, drink, and be merry–at the expense of everyone around them? What can we expect when we have not taught at home nor in schools nor in the public arena that EVERYONE has a responsibility to treat others decently? What can we expect when those children have been given to understand that they are owed something by everyone else but that they owe nothing to anyone else? What can we expect when we have given them “safe spaces” in school and in life, but they have no concern for the safety and rights of other people? They are anarchists in the making since they have never had to respect authority–not that of God nor of the law nor of basic rules of civility. They have never been taught the truths of history, so the tyranny that they want to bring into being sounds fair and just. One day they will know when that tyrant brings death and destruction to their lives, and there will be nothing that they can do to be free.

I hope most of these Defund / Disband arguments are similar to the peaceful protests and the anarchy looters/antifa groups.
One discussion I heard today involving a local large city police chief was that they didn’t want to de-fund the police but reduce some of what they’re responsible for doing. I did not hear a list but from other comments it sounded like non-criminal checks and things other government agencies could do. The chief was not aparently opposed to the idea but cautious about how it would be implemented and whether the other agencies were ready for the work.
The other groups wanting the police gone isn’t really new. A couple years ago a group of idiots in Madison were trying to have the cops not patrol their neighborhood. I think part of what killed their calls were that delivery companies announced they would not going to be bringing food and other stuff into that neighborhood if that came to pass.
Speaking of Madison, WI…
I am curious, but not enough to dig for myself… How did the ‘Peaceful Protests’ go in Madison, a bastion of liberal self-satisfaction and delusion?
One of my sisters lives there – which is why I’m curious, but not wanting to ask her, as she is one of the deluded lefties. She just promotes (on FB) the ‘peacefulness’ of the protests, but also quoted to me the mantra that buildings can be replaced.
I hadn’t really followed up, but I think there was some damage but not anywhere near what other places have. There is a part of the city with the “disband the police” people and they made a thing about that a couple years ago until some people said “well, if you don’t want us to deliver…” and some other things related to out of control crime that would happen. In the end, the people that would have to did not make any changes to police coverage.
One thing that might factor into a lot of Madison riot/crime issues is that is isn’t anywhere near as large as other cities that are burning. Milwaukee is our largest city and where some of the buildings were damaged, iirc.
