Disgusted by my representative’s letter to me

Hi Everyone,

Several months ago, I wrote a letter to my openly gay representative in my district in NY state, Sean Patrick Maloney. I simply stated my concerns regarding the national budget, illegal immigration, the malicious leftist media  attack on our president, as well as local state issues that worry me. I added that I am too a gay man, that his sexuality does not make me loyal to my vote just because we both have that in common. I also added that the violent temper tantrum the Democrats have unleashed upon the American people was unacceptable and that I am ashamed to call myself a New Yorker given the nasty politics of my home state.  I was very polite and cordial in my letter.

In reponse, I got. A condescending, finger pointing, insulting and self righteous response essentially calling me a woman hating self loathing gay that is too stupid to tow the party line.  I was so insulted and angered by his gall that I tore up the letter in disgust and threw it in the trash.

As an average Joe, I was so insulted and condescended to by the monumental tone of elitism that it made me want to go to DC and give that SOB a piece of my mind.

Unfortunately in NY I feel alone  in this fight.  This past few days I visited my father in rural Tennessee near the Smokey mountains and I felt so comfortable and happy that going back to New York depressed me.  I love my house and my town and my life in general but this state makes me angry and I feel like I have no allies.

just needed to vent!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Please forgive any type-o’s as I am writing on my phone!

All the best ,

joe

I suppose this is when you “punch back twice as hard” as the commenters on Instapundit like to quote Rahm Emanuel. Instead of tearing the letter up I’d send a copy to the local paper, if you still have one, post it on Facebook if you have an account for family reasons or share it around at various political sites like here.

It seems a lot of politicians get away with things because they speak out of one side of their mouths at public events, out the other side when speaking in private, friendly fund raisers (and then get caught on mics saying things like “I’ll be more flexible after the election”) or speak out another side when speaking to “enemies” like you. Exposing them is probably the best way to teach them their error, or inform your fellow voters.

As a life-long California resident, I know your pain. Rant away, brother – it makes us all feel better.

I hear Wyoming is the next hot spot for conservatives since the influx of Californians into Texas is slowly turning it blue…

We’re going to have to learn how to stay a step or two ahead of the plague of locusts, aren’t we? Rust never sleeps. *sigh*

Hadn’t seen that speech but apparently great minds think alike! I love Ben’s long-term solution — wait long enough, then return to California after it’s been completely abandoned! 🙂 Oh to go home to a California that isn’t in the grips of lunacy…

Well he doesn’t seem to have deserved the courtesy you extended. I wish this was surprising to me. The contempt with which the leftist political class views conservatarians and assorted traitors who refuse to sit in their assigned victim boxes has become tediously predictable. As one who lived in the hard-left SF Bay Area for 10 years I can certainly empathize. I gather there are ties keeping you in NY, but it sounds like re-assessing the costs vs. benefits might be in order. It certainly felt good to write off my own so-called representative on leaving California — though, dummy that one could conclude I am, I ended up in NJ whose conservative renaissance (such as it was) was short-lived. I have a home I love and like many things about being here, but I too am looking for the next place — a place where I truly belong. Hang in there, best to you, and please feel welcome always to come commiserate here. Glad to have you among us.

Wow, I had no idea an elected representative would write a letter like that to a constituent. That said, I live in Minnesota where the politics are a disaster. I have an ageing mother in law (88) who my wife helps out a lot but if not for that I would have been out of here years ago. Dems are ruining this state. The people have even gotten more abrasive against libertarian minded less progressive types. Taxes have turned this place into a cold California. I used to stay for the hunting, fishing, winter sports and alike. Now, I am ready to trade it for someplace where the politicians don’t view you as just another revenue source for their out of control wasteful spending. Good Luck to you whatever you do.

I feel your pain. I am a resident of the Twin Tiers of NY state, and as soon as my son graduates from high school and my father is no longer with us, we will begin the gargantuan task of trying to unload our house on a dead market and move the h*ll out of here. There are people I love, and scenery that is beautiful, but the politics and policies of NY state are so corrupt and corrosive that we would be idiotic to stay. Cuomo came right out and stated his intention to clear the state of any who do not agree with the left. Finally, a politician that gets something done.

So that’s your district! My sister used to live in Wappingers Falls before she moved to NC. I did get a folksy vibe there. The lifestyle was worlds away from Yonkers.

Luckily, at least for me, I lived there when I was still a lefty, so I felt totally comfortable. Now, I empathize with your feelings of being an outsider.

Hopefully one day you will move where your politics and your lifestyle can co-exist peacefully.

And vent away! That’s what we are here for–to listen, and hold each other up when we need a little bit of support.

Wow. I just looked up your district on Wikipedia, and it actually went for Trump in 2016! That’s the first time in decades your district has voted republican for president. Maybe you have a chance of actually voting out this clown in 2020. Good luck! As someone who lives within 100 miles of Seattle, I share your disdain for leftist politicians. Our governor is horrible.
