Et tu Texas? Governor Abbott Mandates Masks in Public as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, in the face of surging COVID-19 cases, mandates masks in public in a state that led the re-opening move after the lockdown. Bill Whittle thinks it’s exactly the wrong response.

  1. Was NPR ever a “major news source”? Just sayin.
  2. Restaurants were cut back again to 50% capacity, bars and some other businesses (waterparks? explain that!) were closed, and local petty tyrants are able to continue to make further edicts like telling restaurants they can’t seat more than X people at a table or face crippling fines. Never mind that “more than X people at a table” makes no sense on its face when it comes to attempting to stop the spread of a virus.

I want my governor to PUSH BACK against this nonsense, not ENABLE it!!!!!

Vaccine? Cure? Please, stop! They haven’t even found a cure for the common cold, so what makes anyone think a vaccine for WuFlu will magically be discovered? The only “cure” to survive this man-made, gain-of-function virus is through our own immune system! You either develop antibodies to defeat it or you die! The people need to tell their elected overlords to back off and stop telling them what to do. The people have the right to decide the level of risk they want to take on their own terms! The fastest way to achieve herd immunity is through normal social contact. If immuno-suppressed people don’t want to catch the virus then let them live in their isolation bubble, but don’t restrict the movement and livelihood of the rest of humanity based on the lowest common denominator! Yes, I’m calling people at risk of death from infection, “LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATORS”!

As a member in good standing of the Lowest Common Denominator community, I heartily endorse your comment. And I will also decide the level of risk I want to take. I do hug my grandchildren. Others in my position may not. That’s fine. We each need to choose for ourselves.

Damn it Bill I live in California too. What can I do?? Send Newsom a tweet and tell him what a jerk he is, how he’s ruining our state? Move to another country?? I wish I knew…

Ditto… My Pastor finally put his foot down, and decided that although the state (government) may be able to tell us what to do with our bodies (I figure even that’s debateable), he cannot tell us what to do with our spirits, and that’s where singing comes in. We sang, he chanted, we even played Patriotic songs (since it was July 4th weekend).

When this Kung Flu stuff first started I said “Ok, well I can hold out for between 2 and 4 weeks to ‘flatten the curve’ and besides, this will be a good drill for an actual pestilence if this turns out not to be what the powers were predicting.”

Four weeks came and went, then six, then eight and then I quit counting because what is going on now is way, way past reasonable. The nearest major town to me has a population of a quarter million — Even with accelerated broadened testing there have only been 1015 total confirmed cases since this started and 21 deaths. That’s less than 0.0001% of the population has fatally succumbed to the Wutan Flu since it was introduced to the U.S. — In a population of a quarter million, that’s pretty good odds and I’ll take my chances thanks anyway.

As this drags on, apathy is setting in. It’s happening already. Time for a history lesson; During Mao’s “cultural revolution” the ChiCom apparatchiks decided that if plowing fields 8 inches deep was good, plowing them 16 inches was twice as good and 32 inches deep four times better. This with oxen and horse drawn plows often made of wood remember. This wore the poor peasants out and they refused to plow at all. Even with the threat of imprisonment and death. Because the demand to plow that deep was both unreasonable and unproductive besides being back breaking, soul crushing hard labor and the peasants said that if they were going to die anyway they refused to die after a day of killing work. In other words “Take me away and shoot me, it’s better than what you’re making me do without being shot.”

That’s what’s going to happen here too. Apathy is not only a normal state of affairs in such cases, it’s pretty much guaranteed. Eventually more and more people will ignore more and more of the fiat edicts handed down by petty tyrants and the point will come where it’s no longer enforceable. It wasn’t enforceable on unarmed Chinese peasants either and they didn’t even have guns.

The problem thus is twofold. First, how many lives will be destroyed by these petty tyrants before that state of apathy sets in? Second, when a real pestilence does come along, and it will eventually, no one is going to listen to the powers because we all got burned so bad the last time.

With the whiplash of conflicting “expert” advise (you don’t need a mask… nah, wear one if you have one… if you don’t wear one, you’ll kill grandma) slowly wearing off, and the utter lack of bodies in the streets, and lack of “oh, two of my 10 friends got it, were in the hospital for a week” stories going around, people realized the truth because they’re not idiots like the experts thought.
Of course this all means next time…
wolf!
hey everyone, a Wolf!
WOOOOLLFFFF!
chomp chomp munch.

Another Spelunker Politician shows the color of his character. He is more interested in his exercise of illegitimate government power rather than protecting the individual rights of We the People. Texas is no longer on my list of states that protect freedom of the individual. Texas is down the drain!
I am almost sick to death of so called Republicans caving into the fraud of the fake panic from the demented left. The motivation? They want the demented left to love them and stop saying bad things about them so they cave. It is roughly equivalent to that mythical covered wagon running away from a pack of wolves from which a baby was tossed to the wolves. The result of which was to increase the number of wolves chasing the wagon.
One wonders if there any America left? If there is, it is pitifully small. It is apparent that our constitution is now only an ancient document without force or consequence. Rule of Law is now Rule of men with vanishingly small character.

I object!

The only way to get better people in government is to get better ideas into We the People. Hence, the start is to discover the better ideas, know why they are better, and communicate them to others as best you can. I understand that this seems like it will take forever. It is the only way that has ever really worked. I know of no shortcut.

Some can write, some can teach, some can simply show by example. What ever path you can communicate, it will have an impact. Better ideas win in the long run.
