Four graphs, two maps and a meme.

Rather than a long screed I thought I’d post some things illustrating September in the United Kingdom of Covidia.

First, graphs of C-19 deaths from four countries with different lockdown policies.

Next, two maps, one showing the location of Covid-19 deaths across England and Wales, and another showing the distribution of a certain religious demographic. Can you guess which is which and what demographic it is? (Clue, it’s not Mormons.)

Lastly, the re-imposition of a “rule of six”, we can now again be fined for having more than six people gathered together. It’s prompted some amusing response. I’m pleased we’re still able to laugh, but I’m notincing our humour is creeping ever closer to the cynical, dark humour of the old Soviet block.

Good guesses, but sadly do one has won the no expenses paid trip to Mr Shakeel Iqbal’s Kebab shop and Minicab office in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, the fourtyfourth most holy Moslem site and one of the glories of Islam.

To be fair, the distrubution of the Moslem population is very much in the bigger urban centres, where Covid has naturaly been more prevelant. As we repeat to ourselves before going to bed at night “statistical correlation does not constitute a causal link.”

That said, it appears that not only do Moslems live in areas where Covid has been prevelant it does seem to have affected the Moslem population more than others. A Labour Moslem MP in the Midlands attended a number of funerals in the first lockdown along with over 100 people and was encouraging his Moslem constituents to do likewise. This may not be a big factor in and of itself but it illustrates an attitude that might explain the results.
