Doesn’t pass the minimal sense test.
If I’m defector from China who know about collaboration of China and key players of USA that are in power now — I’d certainly defect to another country and first thing would ask protection from the entities I’m running away.
Also, if you actually have a bioweapon ready to use, and want to unleash it deliberately on some target, wouldn’t you do just that? As in fly the cannisters to NY, arrange them opening and infect some folks and allow nature to do the rest? Instead of releasing it a few meters from the lab where you developed it?
Perhaps they released it near the lab so that they would have a cover story for as long as they could get away with it (and that worked better than their wildest dreams–they probably figured they could only get away with it for a few weeks, but long enough to spread). Also, they don’t care about their own people (they don’t spend any engineering or fuel on landing their spent rockets somewhere that won’t kill people, and some of them have fallen on villages and killed people–just one example) so perhaps they wanted to see if it worked in an environment where they were in control. And perhaps they wanted to test how it would spread throughout the world via ordinary commerce.
My personal opinion is that the escape from the lab was an accident, but they decided to take advantage of the opportunity to see how much they could manipulate the world’s response, not to mention see how we would respond. Now they know that they can scare the world into shutting down. And that was with a clearly-not-ready-for-primetime virus.
And it clearly wasn’t just a “lab leak” of a naturally occurring virus collected elsewhere. They were weaponizing it. That’s what “gain of function” research is. We have been funding the PLA at the Wuhan lab and all over the world to do this with U.S. taxpayer dollars.
I agree with the middle part. Except that they “scared the world” — all the scaring was done internally by the countries. If anything, CH denied whatever they could, including even human transmission at the time it was obvious.
Gain of function is only what the name suggests. It does NOT imply waeponization. Certainly leaves that open as possibility, but combined with everything else that theory is very weak. You just don’t make weapons in a S2 level lab. That would have dragged more secrecy and way more security around.
Also, if we learned anything here is that you don’t need actual weapons — just buying up the media and hinting a few useful idiots is enough. The modern world is all too happy to shoot itself in the foot (even with a nuke or arrow treated with Hydra-blood), and half the population will be even proud. I rather not even write what else follows. 🙁

If we want to get out of this shitstorm, the task is to cure our system first and find a way to keep the bad people away from power. Looking for who else can be blamed and what was the first domino can be looked afterwards, till then it is just another distraction.
The more I think about this the more one word comes to mind: Treason. Those in the democrat leadership who helped the ChiComs bring this about need to meet the noose, and I’m not being flippant here at all.
When I was in Army Intelligence and we took the oath to enter the intelligence field, the sergeant leading us showed several videos (and many briefings) to show us just how serious it was to keep these oaths; we saw and heard about many people who took the same oaths, and then broke them, and the deadly consequences of such treasonous actions. When my fellow intel soldiers and I agreed and swore to uphold our oaths, we knew that to break them meant lengthy imprisonment, permanent disgrace, and maybe death. So the people who colluded with the communist Chinese to unleash this scheme on the world will surely not be surprised when their sentences are read and executed, as they took similar oaths to uphold the Constitution. There can be no wavering or leniency in this.
