I was born in 1960 and had the pleasure of enjoying the Carol Burnett Show on a regular basis. It’s sad they don’t make comedy shows like that anymore. Sometime in the late 70’s I had gone to Las Vegas to visit my sister and she took me to an all star tennis match at one of the casinos. In one court we sat on the ground and watched Ron Ely (Tarzan) and his wife playing tennis with Bernie Kopell (Dr. Adam Bricker/Love Boat) and his wife. My sister nudged me and told me to look who I was sitting next to. It happened to be Lyle Waggoner who was a regular on the Carol Burnett Show.
RIP Loved TC! Thankful that ‘over the air’ tv has channels that still play reruns of Carol Burnett and others with this great comedy and positive sense of humor.
I had the chance to catch an old interview with Tim yesterday. For the Novocain scene, he practiced it and read lines with Harvey and Harvey keep saying that it was not funny at all. He never told him about getting stuck with the needle, he just waited until the taping to do it.
If you want to see two comic geniuses at work, get a hold of a copy of “The Apple Dumpling Gang.” It is Tim Conway and Don Knotts at their very best. They play hapless burglars and thieves in an old West setting. It is an absolute riot!
Great Movie 👍🏻
You guys messed up my schedule. After listening to the three of you, I spent about the next couple of hours listening to Tim Conway clips. An unbelievable, precious man he was!
We gladly accept responsibility for your misaligned schedule.
You must, MUST, watch Vickie Lawrences’ behind the scenes video of this scene to give it more context.
My daughter (19) just reminded me that her generation knows Tim Conway as Barnacle Boy from Sponge Bob. (Mermaid Man was Adam West)
Great discussion on Tim Conway.
Here is a bit of a back-story on that last clip.

Thanks for that link because I had NO idea what she said! (Had a hard time understanding what Tim was saying too.)
I have so much to say about Tim and Carol and also what y’all said in this episode, but I’m too tired. Guess I can sum it up as: me, too!
Thank you!
The Carol Burnett show was one the the few shows my entire family watched faithfully and roared every week when Tim was on. He was just a guest performer for the for the early seasons and after he became a regular, that became must see tv.
I especially loved the sketches when Tim altered a line and Harvey would start to break. Tim played with him like a cat with a mouse. The best sketches were the ones with Harvey completely losing it. Vicki and Carol were tougher nuts but he got them too.
I saw the Apple Dumpling Gang movies at the Drive in and I still love Private Eyes to death. One the the best comedic performers ever. Thanks for the heartfelt video!
Thanks guys… for an awesome laugh and a terrific look back at the glorious clowns we grew up on… RIP Tim Conway… always a hoot in Hollywood Squares too
Costumes?
“Oh, it’s just something I saw in the window.”
I firmly believe that Tim Conway made it his mission in life to cause Harvey Korman to break character on camera. Every time.
He said one time on one of the reunion shows that it was his mission every week to “destroy” Harvey Korman. They were the best.
Does anyone know if the Carol Burnett Show is avail by season? Like every other show. I’ve only seen it avail in random compilations.
My understanding is there are copyright issues with segments of nearly every show that prevent that.
As much as I love crude & vulgar humor, I’m always impressed by anyone who can make a decades long career in comedy while always being completely clean. And Tim was one of the all time greats
He teased harvey about making him pee in his pants laughing during the dentist skit. RIP
