Here is another singer who was ubiquitous on the radio in the late-60s/early 70s, and has since been largely forgotten.
This is the song she is most remembered for:
But, this is the one that bugged me my entire adult life, until the advent of a well-populated YouTube allowed me to finally remember who sang the haunting melody that I sometimes found myself humming while mowing the lawn or washing the car. It was only about eight years ago that I finally dredged it out of my teenaged memories, put words to it, and let it out into the light once again:

For 40 years I was unable to associate the first song with the second one, and the connection was the beautiful Welch lady Mary Hopkin, confidante of Paul McCartney (composer of this song), and singer extraordinaire.
She did pop up in odd places for a long time. Apparently, she provided the vocals for Rachel’s Song, on the Vangelis soundtrack of Blade Runner.
Who knew?

Wow, I remember the first song well. I always though it was someone like Nancy Sinatra or one of her comtemporaries. Thanks for posting.
I still love that song. It’s a haunting melody that conjures up a lot of images.
