Technological civilization is not going to survive the IT industry.

Oh, the mind swims thinking of all the ways this could be used for malicious purposes.
@RG – agree with you wholeheartedly.. I’m in the IT field and see how inept people are with even “simple” tech
People cannot deal with tech mostly because of abominable anti-human human interface design. Since most techies are not complete humans, they cannot put themselves into the shoes of the mere mortal user. As a consequence, they design for themselves and their fellow techies. They are only comfortable with their high tech gear. They don’t know how to deal with real humans.
See Sheldon of The Big Bang Theory for abundant details.
I’ve been wondering about the implications of this for the last year or two. We’ll figure out how to compensate as a society, I’m sure–we always do–but it’s definitely going to be a messy process. Good to see that people are becoming more aware of the potential issues now, before the technology’s been perfected.
I’m doubtful, I don’t think we’re adapting at all well to the current level of technology.
Like I said, it’s going to be messy for a while–think about how disruptive other information-related technologies have been in the past. Eventually we’ll figure out how to deal with it, though. We’ll have to.
