From my aunt, when I shared this with her:
“ Excellent! TY!! I am sharing it with families I am working to get out of Afghanistan and with others who are helping with the efforts. It’s extremely stressful for the tens of thousands who are being hunted by the Taliban. Flights out byAmerican volunteers and NGOs who are thoroughly vetting the evacuees (unlike our gov’t did) are now not being allowed to leave Kabul or Mazar airports due to the US State department rules. Thanks for sharing.”
I’ve noticed that when it comes to “helping” people of other nations, if the US government is involved that usually comes in the form of war, which paints the American people as “warmongers.” But when you take the government out of the equation, American citizens are the most generous and kind people on the planet.
I remember the “Cajun Navy” during hurricane Katrina. I also remember that that greedy, hurtful corporation Wal-Mart that the left hates, gave away truckoads, literal truckloads, of bottled water and blankets away while FEMA was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. And that reminds me of a joke. Yes, I am Christian, but those who pray and do nothing for themselves when they can irritate me. “God gives every bird its food, but He doesn’t throw it into the nest.” And “Pray to God, but row for shore.” Now for the joke. Its hurricane Katrina in Louisiana time. Person is in his house and the water is approaching the top of his porch steps. A little boat with a small motor comes by. “Hey! Get in! Its getting worse. You don’t want to drown.” The person on the porch says “No thanks. The Lord will protect me.” The boat goes on. Time goes by and the water rises. The homeowner is on the second floor looking out the window. A pretty large, well apportioned boat comes by. “Get in. We have lots of room, and its getting worse.” And again the reply “No Thanks. The Lord will protect me.” Time passes and water rises. The owner is on the roof, with the water lapping at his feet. A helicopter comes by, drops a rope and says “Get in! We can’t stay here long.” Again, “No thanks. The Lord will protect me.” The water rises and the guy drowns. He goes to heaven, meets God and says “Lord I was relying on your protection. What happened?” And God says ” I sent you two boats and a helicopter. What did you want? ” And thus my joke for today😆
Thanks, Scott! Exactly the type of closing I always appreciate from you. What free markets have done for the rest of the world cannot be calculated, but someone ought to try.
Bill- you betcha, there needs to be a screening process. I would suggest one similar to that which your lovely bride had to traverse, at a minimum.
Steve – thanks for the reminder of both the Gator Navy and the citizens with boats on 9/11.
I seem to remember it being called “The Cajun Navy” at least in Louisiana during Katrina.
I believe you are correct. Gator is that “school” that Bill attended.
I think “gator” was the term used for the people that rallied to Texas for Harvey.
Someone paid the deposit, nice, but the real cost is to come. A handful of these people will have done something positive for the US, the rest will join their fellows in their exclusive enclaves.
Not to bring clouds to obscure the sunshine, I just hope the people who are receiving the largesse of the American people are American citizens, or have been screened thoroughly to be sure they – oh. Bill made this caveat as well. OK. Well, I give that about a 1 in 10 chance, but I’m also hoping for the best.
