Any failings or flaws by any person, prominent or otherwise, should be considered human failings or flaws that are not based on color, sex, or ideology. That is the one thing we all have in common. We are human first, everything else is secondary.

I don’t think the progressives are going to ‘grapple’ with anything like this. Remember Ted Kennedy? Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment.

Bill’s on the money. I admire MLK for what he said about judging people by their actions, not their colour. I love and admire Churchill, but he was far from perfect and in his 1950s premiership something of a “Wet”, but I still admire his greatest achievement, leading us through WWII.
Here’s a link to a Lindybeige vid on the same subject. Hope you like it.

I believe this was intentional and coordinated. The guy that is in charge of MLK’s bio is a democratic socialist and we all know that individuality doesn’t work for them. They have to destroy his image as well as his words.

Gosh, I dearly hope these allegations aren’t true. I’m glad that you addressed the communist rumors, because I had heard those myself and was not sure what to make of them. I’m a big admirer of Frederick Douglass. I wrote a thirteen page research paper on him last year, and I remembered reading somewhere that he had an affair. I only discovered a month ago when doing more research that the adultery rumors were made up by his opponents to discredit him. I had been fooled by 150 year old rumors about someone I knew very, very well. Those kinds of false rumors must be vocally disproved if at all possible.

Also, if anyone is interested in reading my paper, let me know and I can post it in the blog. Its long for a blog post, but it’s worth a read. I’m rather proud of it.

At 9:30, Bill said, “It is healthy for us to understand that our human gods have feet of clay.”

Bravo, Bill! You got it exactly right using the word ‘gods’. That’s exactly what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was made into. I will be absolutely thrilled if these allegations are corroborated by the tapes to be released in 2027. Not because of what MLK did, but because of what the left did. Godless leftists took a cultural icon and deified a mere man into an idol to worship instead of the one true God. This revelation will send their idol worship into chaos.

All this hubbub simply illustrates the fact that MLK Jr. was a man of the people. In other words, he was a sinner just like the rest of us. How quaint! Nothing is hidden from God. We can only hide our sins from other men. And when men have the corrupt power to spy on other men, in violation of the Fourth Amendment, this is unmitigated proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Be that as it may, MLK is still a paragon of virtue in comparison to anyone with a (D) by their name. How could any lover of life be a party to the evil plank hiding in plain sight in the DNC platform? These people are lovers of death with their demonic delusion that ‘choice’ is a greater virtue than life. It’s time to call the party of evil for what it is: EVIL!

Bill, I’m amused by your obvious avoidance of using that three-letter word to describe the “products of their time and culture.” Why do you care if people are put off by the word “sin”?

We hold these truths to be self evident…

I have a dream…

The things a person says are either correct and true on their own (or not) as or a summation of the life of the person saying them. In the cases of the people discussed on the show, the ideas put forth and the goals and objectives strived for (independence for a country and civil equality for all of its people) are, on their own, good true ideals.

The hypocrisy of the individuals has nothing to do with the ideals themselves.

The self help gurus and diet experts who say “live like I did and achieve greatness/thinness/personal peace” or whatever who did not live as they claim, or the “save the earth, consume less” preachers that do not live as if there is a climate crisis DO undermine their teachings. The claims they make may be true but that they do not believe them shows they do not believe their own claims. MLK Jr could have a crisis in his own church if there are teachings he personally made that contradict his own personal behavior but it would not spread to any other church body with their own doctrine and Bible based teachings that are independent of what he said. Anything he said that was based on the books of the church would also be… should be, safe.

The left doesn’t believe in ‘not the color of their skin but the content of their character’ any more. So the time where MLK is disposable to them might not be that far off.

I’ve heard suggestion that Dr. King was a womanizer for years. I don’t know why people are acting like it’s a huge revelation.

Having said that, my next comment is: So what?

Yes, IF the accusations are true, they are heinous. I do think, however, that the man should be evaluated by his larger contribution to society. As Patrick Reed has stated, we are all flawed. All of us. We have all made mistakes. Who are we to pass judgment on a man who helped turn the tide of civil rights in this country?

Furthermore, WHY was the FBI keeping tabs on him? His whole philosophy is nonviolence. There was no reason for that action. If the government viewed him as so much a threat that they would bug his private moments, who’s to say they wouldn’t plant evidence to help their case?

Remember, also, the man was assassinated at an early age. Who’s to say that he wouldn’t have changed his ways in his later years, *if the accusations are true*.

In the end, I don’t give a damn. Dr. Martin Luther King was instrumental in bridging the gap of racism in America. I will always admire him for that. Everything else is inconsequential.

The short answer is yes, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy will survive the revelation that he was a flawed man, and a sinner. Just like Thomas Jefferson, and any number of accomplished people. The struggle that King endured, and the eventual triumph of the Civil Rights movement of the time will be the most important and enduring thing that he did in this world. As the people who lived through the struggle with King pass on themselves, those of us who can only know about him through the lens of history will be less shocked to know that he had a weakness, and a dark side. In fact, I am now curious to know how it didn’t destroy him, and if there is a lesson to be learned from that. King’s detractors in the future will try to make his adultery and womanizing the most important thing about him, but they will fail. But let this be yet another lesson as to why you should never make golden calves out of mere mortals.

Bill’s analysis here was outstanding, I thought. It made the distinction between individual morality, in which imperfection is accommodated, and collective morality, where it is not. This is what most strongly divides the left from the right, and echoes our relative appreciations of reality and our relative tolerances for subtlety. That was great, Bill.

Just consider for a moment the times this was supposedly recorded in. Then factor in Hoover’s Paranoid Personality. Now tell me that the possibility that this tape was fabricated based on rumors isn’t a possibility or even more likely. Dr King was a man, not a saint. I had heard rumors for years of such recordings but that’s all they were rumors. If these tapes were really genuine why did they remain secret for so long? I believe these tapes were made or fabricated to Blackmail Dr. King should it become needed. Hoover kept everything. Even after he died and his files were removed only a fool believes they were destroyed. Information is power in D.C. and someone likes playing Power Games

I suggest the left will not make a big thing of it. For them, if you are of the right/conservative/individual rights centered and you have made a mistake (according to them) in the past, you cannot do anything right again. As for themselves, they can be always in the wrong but it is OK if they have something they call “good intentions”. Thus it is as if they can’t do anything wrong forever no matter how wrong they were and are.
