Old fashioned banning-banning is about to make its triumphant comeback! I gotta imagine that there are a lot of folks in the so-called free world who are about sick of you thinking that you’re free to speak your mind. How many denizens of our own government are itching to push back against the “Chinese model” of internet governance?

Query: If the web was suddenly censored in the U.S.–how would we know? Information would just stop being there…information that we wouldn’t know was there in the first place.
That thought chills me to the bone.
As Chris Plante is fond of saying, the most insidious power of the media is the power to ignore.
The only way you know is if your own content disappears. YouTube and its brethren are a perfect example of this already happening.
In fact, for most of our history, the media censored a lot of information. When there were only three networks and a handful of newspaper chains, that was easy. Example: America’s Most Trusted Newsman, Walter Cronkite (pee be upon him) convinced the nation that America lost the Tet Offensive. This was used by Congress to hammer home the idea that we lost the Vietnam War. In point of fact, it was quite the opposite. We won that encounter decisively, and just when we were ready to clean it up the war and go home, politicians (and the media) decided just to declare defeat and go home in shame.
It’s harder to do that now, but censorship and control of the channels of information are very much alive and in play all over the world, and that includes Peoria.
Thanks to Google it is all but censored now. Search on some topics on chrome you won’t find them. My husband downloaded another browser(I don’t recall the name) he searched there and what do you know he found the info he was looking for.
Duckduckgo seems pretty reliable (and bias-free) as a search engine.
I couldn’t recall the name but duckduckgo is it. The one my husband uses. He’s very happy with it.
