Now What?

No matter where Tucker lands, what would YOU like to see in that primetime slot?

The stunning departure of Tucker Carlson from Fox News has caused a firestorm of speculation as the reason why. But Scott Ott brings an interesting twist to the story: no matter where Tucker lands, what would YOU like to see in that primetime slot?

the veterinarian story is cute but it surely is not news. I would like to go back to the 30 minute Huntley and Brinkley report

Inoticed Bill never answered Scott’s question. I agree with him- I don’t really care about what Fox does with Tucker’s spot. He was really all they had of interest anymore. Gutfeld can be funny sometimes, and quite introspective, but you also have to wade through his goofiness. So, yah that saved me an hour every evening- as I watched it on DVR.
WHo cares what they do with the hour..?

Scott, re: your veterinarian, YT and the others have tons of channels that do pretty much what you’re asking for. The host sits down w/ someone knowledgeable on the subject for a good hour or two. Usually, it’s some nobody that has knowledge of the subject but sometimes its a person caught up in the specific event

Bill, To drastically improve the chance that Tucker takes you up on your offer. I’ll match your offer, well maybe not fully match it but at least an addition $100 cash. I don’t see how he could pass that up.

Gentlemen I believe the 3 of you might be missing a most probable possibility; “a killer app” you say; “eyeballs to the table” think?
1st US President of the Independent party. Tucker’s time in the national light is a given. My thinking says, smart money bets He announces.
Adios Trump dynasty. Be safe on your ‘road trip’ Bill. And thanks for listening.

I’ll take that wager. While spinning off a new party might sound very appealing to some, it doesn’t work here in the U.S. What happens is that the old and new parties “split the vote” giving neither old nor new hope of winning. It is tantamount to political suicide.

Both sides have tried this idea, it hasn’t been successful for either. Even with no less a legend than Teddy Roosevelt running as the Progressive or “Bull Moose Party” after he was shunned by the Republican’s and formed his own party — Couldn’t pull that off. Woodrow Wilson beat Teddy by a wide margin even though Teddy got more Electoral Votes than the Republican candidate W. Howard Taft.

While the Democrats have had their own disasters with split votes, the most recent example was when Ross Perot split the Republican vote which allowed Bill Clinton to win. The ramifications of that particular disaster are still with us to this very day.

Tucker Carlson is a smart guy. He knows all this and I doubt he’s even considering something like running for the White House as head of a fledgling conservative party. Not only can an independent candidate not win, his candidacy assures that the other side will win.

Oh, I know, there’s all sorts of bluster and horse droppings about why attitudes like mine are the problem but they’re not. These are just the cold, hard political facts. By the time people on the conservative side once again lose and learn their lesson all over again, it’s too late and we have another Bill Clinton reverberating down the decades.

The solution is not to split the Republican party, it’s to change the Republican party. That might sound like a very difficult and unachievable goal but it would be child’s play compared to trying to win the Oval Office with a spin-off party.

Agreed. Anyone who pays attention to the numbers should come to the very same conclusion; alas, too many fall prey to wishful thinking and delusion.

Often the people advocating for a split/spin-off party are the sorts that vote for the Libertarian candidate ‘in protest’ or because they genuinely support that person and party’s platform. In other cases the motivation may be to do something, even if its wrong or detrimental. Then there are also always those who have simply failed to study the ramifications and implications and so are not aware of the vote splitting phenomenon.

Sadly while they believe themselves to be doing ‘the right thing’ what they are actually accomplishing is to aid the very people who would render their franchise as a voter null.

There’s a cliff on the other side of that argument too. If the Republicans are given blind, unthinking support we end up with RINOs who might as well be Democrats.

This isn’t a sports venue. It’s not ‘our team against their team’.

The solution that works is to change the party from within. We know this works because while things didn’t go as far as many of us would have liked it to … The “Tea Party” had considerable impact on the old guard Republicans. That is historical evidence that change can actually be accomplished.

Those more correctly Conservatives were able to wrest considerable concessions from the old guard Republicans in the case of electing Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House. These are fruits of progress and proof that the Republican Party can be changed from within.

I’m not a Tea Partier and I don’t personally know anyone who would refer to themselves as such. I stood for Conservative principles long before anyone ever heard of the Tea Party.

I’m not a Republican either. I stopped calling myself that when it was clear the Republican Party had abandoned its first principles.

I consider myself an Independent Conservative and even so there’s no way I’d advocate for splitting the Conservative vote by fielding an Independent Conservative candidate for the White House.

How about a Carlson AND O’Keefe actual news show/cast/stream…? Eeee Haaa, I might even watch that, along with continuing to watch you guys!!

Through Bill being a guest on Mike Rowe’s podcast, I started listening to Mike’s podcast and actually went back and listened to all of them. He has some interesting discussions with people from whom I would otherwise probably not have heard.
Not long ago, Mike had Megyn Kelly on his podcast. And I heard a Megyn I had never known. One without a network behind her making editorial decisions. I have now started listening to Megyn fairly regularly.
Unfiltered, she is not the same person I recalled from any of her network stints. She has some very interesting guests and they have really good conversations and debates. And while I may not agree with everything she says, I like this Megyn Kelly,
Seeing what she has done, I have no doubt that if Tucker were to go that route, he would be ridiculously successful.
If he said only on Rumble, that could be a start. But as Bill has shown, political commentary is but a small portion of what is on YT or Rumble.
I wish him luck. Though I will for the record state that it has been years since I sat down to watch any cable or network “news” program. They had basically devolved into the political version of what ESPN programming had become. Stephen A Smith takes one position and someone else takes another and they argue for 10 minutes, the louder voice wins.
Since I don’t happen to find that entertaining or informative, I stopped watching both ESPN and CNN or Fox.

My thought exactly — Mike Rowe finds obscure (but interesting) things to present and does so in a humorous, lighthearted way. I thought of Mike when Scott mentioned his Bolivian taxi driver/veterinarian story. I’d sign up for a YEAR for that kind of stuff. Take the fights away — just not interested. I have enough drama in my life. But then again, I’m in the wrong demographic. That target demographic ends at age 55 and I passed that milestone more than a decade ago.

I stopped watching any TV news back during the second Iraq war.

Yes. Shouting. It’s why I don’t like “reality” shows. I don’t particularly LIKE watching people fighting, especially when neither can get a complete coherent thought out for all of the cutting off and shouting over.

Fox shot a big hole in their prime schedule and revenue stream. If I were wagering on who will best survive this separation, I would not bet on Fox.

When the few mega-corporations that own EVERY media source in the nation decide the people “don’t need to see this,” the people WILL NOT see it. Bottom line, “WE, the people” CANNOT trust ANY media.

Well Scott, I think you missed your chance to see real prime time JOURNALISM, as Tucker really never argued with guest but mostly politely thanked them for their insights. He was cutting edge journalism on the hot button issues of the day, well researched and more likely spot on with his takes than mistaken, and he was certainly the last best prime-time conservative voice out there! Why you chose not to watch him seems contradictory to your claims of what it is you would like to see!?!? Certainly, your loss!

Thank you, Daniel! I could not agree with you more. You nailed everything Tucker did so well with such heart and passion. Cannot believe that my favorite “Conservative” podcast guys did not acknowledge the most courageous voice out there in prime-time. It’s certainly does seem contradictory to what I would have expected to read. I certainly feel such a loss!

Yes, the J6 tape thing was very weird. Carlson has been on Adam Carolla several times and vice-versa Carolla basically invented podcasting, he answers to no one Carlson has admired his set up. That’s one option he’s aware of.

Scott’s naïveté is adorable. In South American third world countries the taxi drivers all have at least one other occupation. The one he’s talking about that’s a veterinary has at least three jobs. He’s a taxi driver, a veterinarian AND a security services informant that gets paid for any juicy tidbits he can bring to his masters.

A lot of people complain about American aid to various nations. Scott mentioned Bolivia and that country gets aid from the US.

That aid is nominally stated as being provided to help stabilize social tensions and improve the lives of the people in those countries. Which is true but it’s not the whole truth.

U.S. aid has another function. It makes it much safer for Americans to travel and do business in those countries where aid is provided. Scott and his family were safer in a South American third world nation than they might otherwise have been because a lot of U.S. aid is basically graft. The governments receiving that aid do not want ‘unfortunate’ incidents involving U.S. Citizens because that kind of thing threatens the flow of aid to their nation.

That said, they will not hesitate to arrest an American or any citizen of any other country if they can substantially prove some sort of criminality. Proving that gets them “off the hook” as far as endangering any aid they might receive from us or other countries.

So they use a lot of means of gathering intelligence on Americans who are in their country. Cab drivers are gold mines for that kind of thing.

I think trash TV had a lot to do with morphing from news to nonsense. Jerry Springer and Geraldo Rivera got great ratings while providing nothing of substance. That probably pulled the business model out of skew and initiated the race to the bottom.

In the beginning….CNN Headline News had the perfect 24/7 formula: a 30 minute newscast with a decent rundown of world and national news, sports headlines, quick look at national weather, then do it again, all day, all night, updating whenever needed, going continuous when breaking news or disasters happened. Catch a decent news roundup any time of the day or night. For this long ago old school newsguy, it was like having a teletype ticking away in the room all day. It was always on, even if I muted the sound while I worked. But most people would catch one 30-minute ‘cast, then go away, and I suspect the sponsors and sales people at CNN wanted that all-day audience, and the whole thing went away after a few years…morphed into Celebrity News Network, then into nothing that looked like news.

I have to admit that my TV has been off for more time in years. My TV viewing was Tucker, washing the dishes, The Ingraham Angle, Gutfeld! It was my go to every weeknight.
Tucker has a studio in his home that FNC paid for. Not sure whether they will want all the equipment back. That is where he did all of his Docs.

Bravo! Bravo! Best Show in a log time and I LIKED the speculation why Carlson was dumped….Now I get to watch and see which guess pans out!
And Scott is absolutely right….News?? 24 Hrs a day?? Great Idea!! …but don’t hold your breath…

Scott ~ PLEASE NEVER SAY THE NAME OF TUCKER CARLSON AND DON LEMON IN THE SAME SENTANCE!
I am surprised at your nastiness regarding the most courageous anchor ever, Tucker! He has kept my friends and my spirits up for years. Most of all, he wasn’t afraid to laugh out loud! Kind of disappointed in all of you!
Tucker is the only courageous Conservative out there that challenged the other so-called Conservatives. I don’t think you guys understood how he kept our spirits up while the liberals control all the news outlets. I feel I just lost one of my TV favorites of all time, and I will never forget when he wore that bow tie on Crossfire. God’s blessings to you, Tucker. It just will not be the same for many of us on weeknights at 8 PM!
