Barack and Michelle Obama debut their first Higher Ground Production for Netflix, a documentary about the underbelly of the alleged Trump prosperity — American Factory. The new doc looks at a former GM plant, taken over by a Chinese auto glass firm, where workers make less money, and struggle to adapt to the regime of their new masters. Even the creators of the film acknowledge the sweet political timing — in the midst of the 2020 presidential race — that induced the Obamas to choose their film for this first outing.

As soon as I heard Netflix was hiring the Obamas I cancelled my subscription. It’s bad enough he gets paid a presidential pension of over $200K a year, I was not going to line his pockets any further with more of my hard-earned money.
I’m surprised I’m the first neckbeard to point out that the correct quote from Hamlet is, “hoist with his own petard”. A petard was a small bomb, similar to a primitive hand grenade, and not an object upon which one could be hoisted. The expression is a more succinct way to say, “blown sky-high by his own bomb”, the force of the explosion resulting in him flying upwards as if something were hoisting him. It was a sign of Shakespeare’s time that most of his audience would be familiar with this sort of bomb.
Having previously deployed my store of petards during a neighborhood dustup, I have abandoned the locution as archaic.
It’s yet another lefty money laundering scheme to pay off the Obamas.
Just like his book deals.
Funemployement. Yeah… I remember 2010. What a great staycation that was.
No one’s gonna be able to say Trump can cash out once he leaves office.
Some time ago I quit Netflix and will never go back. Hiring the obama-Grifters clinched the Netflix decline for me.
The obamas are swimming in the red tide of all they think they know. How could any sustenance come from such poisoned waters?
Had an ad, hope you guys got paid.
Does fmr Pres Obama know how hard the job is if he never really did it?
Obama’s Llamas? I’m not sure how you said that with a straight face, Bill.
I’m already looking forward to being among the ranks to give this show a well deserved one star rating!
I think it is time my Netflix subscription got canceled.
Obama hates the United States and everything it stands for. The mantra of the Left has always been the ends justify the means so a tradition such as stepping aside for the current president would be brushed aside by Obama without a thought.
It is incorrect to refer to Obama as “President” Obama. He is former President Obama. This is true of all former presidents, whatever you think of them and their presidencies. It is true of both the great Ronald Reagan and that b*#@!*d Woodrow Wilson. If citing something that happened during their tenure, you may call them President So-n-so, because they were president at that time. President is not a title one gets to keep for the rest of one’s life. Even Miss Manners will back me up on this one.
This show will be a hit. It has already been deemed so by those that decide such matters. Even if only a dozen people watch it, it will be listed as a hit.
Bill, don’t you recognize the code your insect overlords are using in your color change? Better get on the stick!😉
This glass plant they’re surely speaking of is located in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. Fuyao is their name. I live in the same county.
When I was a kid in the 1970’s, GM was a major employer in the area along with 5 other fortune 500 companies which all have closed down, sold out or downsized dramatically.
Being the law of supply and demand is immutable, the wages paid to the employees of Fuyao are commensurate with the employment opportunities here. There are a lot more people with the limited skills production work requires than those jobs themselves.
Steel, machining and associated technologies in the past 40-50 years dramatically reduced the need for human capital in component production. I know. I work in manufacturing and never encouraged my son to get in this trade because of the massive gains in technology which drastically reduce the need for human labor.
Dayton is still a thriving manufacturing hot bed in the USA despite the major players going away from the area. WPAFB is one of the largest employers here now. There are many manufacturers dealing with medical equipment and prosthetics too.
You can try all you want to get around the basic economics and the law of supply and demand as the labor unions exhaustively try, but in the end, economics wins.
Here’s a 10+ y/o article on it if you’re interested:

Well stated, Ted.
Is the type of operation being done in that plant commensurate with the type of plant now? Same level of skill required. Down the road from the mfg company I work at, where production is between 15 and 25/hr is a furniture plant that has 10/hr jobs. To lump everything into MFG and say, see they pay half, is only telling part of the story.
Bill, love the color changing effect. Looks like the color wheel light shining on an aluminum Christmas tree…set on 10. 🙂
More from the “hope and change” president. Disgusting propaganda from an absolutely disgusting human. I don’t know how else to say it and try to keep this comment PG.
I think you are praising Obama much too highly. His character is slammed hard to the bottom of the scale. It is impossible to estimate how low it actually is.
