Political beliefs (Pornography & Prostitution)

Let me say from the start that I do not find anything wrong with either “Pornography” NOR “Prostitution” as a concept.

What an ADULT does with their own body is entirely up to them.

The difference between fashion modelling or acting in a movie and those in the porn industry seems to be just that of competence & who the target audience is.

I find it remarkably interesting that in a “free” society we would have the discussion that these “Should” be exceptions to the rule.

After all, the amount of “exploitation” that occurs to minors is something that cannot be ignored. But the “believe all women” outrage shows that exploitation occurs in Hollywood with adults as well. (In Both Directions)

HOWEVER!

I do not feel that we need to throw out “the baby with the bath water” in order to rectify the issues with exploitation. The trouble with MOST of these issues is that it is a matter of “He said She said”.

I believe that these issues should be resolved in the courts on a case by case basis.

Additionally, Similar to my stance of “believe all women”, actors and models should be fully aware of their rights and obligations. Claiming ignorance or naivete is not an excuse to pillory others.

Preface to 2nd half

I believe that we have segmented out society in 2 parts.  Adults & Children

Adults have rights AND responsibilities. Children have rights and responsibilities as well, BUT not as many.

This might belong in its own section but for now here it is.
In my estimation I have broken the descriptions down this way. (Some overlap)

Preschool years (“Child” is learning how their body works and how physics and the physical world functions) approximately ages 0-7

Grade school years (Still considered a child and parents should be preparing the child for puberty and laying the foundation for HOW to learn and HOW TO THINK)
Approximately 8-12

Teen Years ages 13-17
These are the years that parents need to be preparing the young adult to be an ACTUAL adult by the time they graduate High school and turn 18

The 2nd half of this topic is: how should it be treated in public.

Both Pornography and Prostitution are ADULT SUBJECT MATTER. Right next to Political discussions, and discussions about various faiths, tattoos, drinking, gambling, drug use, and extreme sports, Body Modification and any sexual activity.

These areas can be very complicated!  It is up to the parents to prepare their children for the consequences of participating in these activities.

Since we have divided Society into 2 parts. (Adult & Children) I think it just appropriate that activities and venues should be likewise divided.

NOW this is where the sticky problem seems to occur. Businesses seem to want to “appeal to the widest audiences” so they often ban outright any adult activity or content.

Walmart is certainly within its purview to decide not to carry adult magazines or adult toys etc. BUT! The landlord should not prevent a business from opening a liquor store or a marital aide store directly beside the Walmart. And Walmart should not have an issue with it as long as the storefront matches the theme of the storefronts of the rest of the complex.

With regard to the “Internet”.

The Internet is the entire world in all its glory & all its infamy.
It is no place for children, no place for teens that need to be concentrating on becoming responsible adults.
The internet “at large” should not have to concern itself with protecting anyone from the information contained there-in.
We have the technology right now (built into every computer and router) to limit access to sites that responsible parents approve of.

The onus must be on parents to make certain that their children do not run afoul.

If children gain access to something only adults are permitted to access it should be treated the exact same as if a child took the parents car on a joy ride.  You do not punish the maker of the car. Or the bar that was handed a fake ID.  You punish the child and/or the parents as appropriate.

YES!  I am fully aware that parents are not raising their own children anymore and tend to leave it up to “The System”

That is a discussion for another section.

One reply on “Political beliefs (Pornography & Prostitution)”

Here’s just a little something I made and first posted to Facebook on November 19, 2012 (sharing here and now for “no particular reason”):
