If I were a Jew in the UK right now I’d be giving serious thought to leaving. Here are some snapshots from the last week or so here in Britain. If I had the time or inclination I could post more, these are just a selection.
A gentle warning, there is a degree of violent and vile speech and action in these clips, as well as bad language. If you’re having a good day, don’t let this spoil it.
Here is a video about an attack on Jews in London celebrating the ceasefire.

Here is a charming clip of British school children in Leicester.

Still in Leicester, grown up protests, day 6.

Now in London, an attack on the home Mufti Abu Leyth, a (relatively) moderate Moslem youtuber who is bold enough to say that “Israel is here to stay.”

A convoy of eight cars from Manchester drove down for a rally in London, making sure they demonstrated the peaceful nature of Islam, with its well known concern for women’s welfare, as they drove through a Jewish area of northwest London.

And finally, more from London, a young police officer ripping up the British police tradition of impertiality and using it as confetti.

There were massacres of Jews in England in the early Middle Ages. Edward I expelled the Jews from England in 1290. In the mid 17th century, under Cromwell and the Commonwealth, the Jews that were once again living in England were given the legal right to do so. The position of Chief Rabbi has been recognised by the British state since 1704, the Bevis Marks synagogue in London is the oldest continuously active synagogue in the whole of Europe. In the reign of Victoria Britain twice elected a Jew, Benjamin Disraeli, as Prime Minister. Like Andrew Klavan and Dennis Prager, Disraeli was a Jewish convert to Christianity, but still a Jew to anti-Semites. Although there were, and still are, anti-Semites among my countrymen Britain has been a place of refuge for Jews for over three centuries. To see British Jews in the 21st century actually leaving because they simply don’t feel safe here is as shameful as it is scary. Remember. “First they came for the Jews.”

If you want to discuss what’s going on in Israel and other places where anti-semitism is rearing its ugly head, and you worry your children may become likewise indoctrinated, read the children’s book called The Terrible Things. Read to them and discuss what it means. It is an excellent allegory of the Holocaust. Easily understood by children. The Terrible Things by Eve Bunting. Worth reading.
Many thanks for that Barbara. I’ve now seen it it in a pdf online. It’s very good. I’m passing it on to a friend of mine who teaches young kids.
You’re welcome Davey!
