Political beliefs (Voting)

I think Jesse Ventura had a great idea. Remove the labels identifying who is a democrat/republican/independent at the polls.

The order of the names should be randomized as well to avoid people picking the first name on the list or the last.

People need to vote responsibly. Far too many people vote one party or another with absolutely no knowledge of the person they are voting for.

I also think that issues should likewise be limited to facts. Far too many are putting “Spin” on issues. Such as Issue 2 which was spun to make it sound like it was a tax to benefit the local park system but the actual text didn’t mention parks at all. Could it be used to benefit the parks? It “could” but the actual text said that the funds would go into the general fund and would be used at the discretion of the Gov. It also said the tax increase was forever. No limitation on how long the tax would last.

Right now for an Amendment to the constitution to be passed it must pass with a 2/3rd’s vote. Not JUST a majority.

I would like to see omnibus bills be outlawed and each and everything must get a majority vote of 2/3rd’s… and for amendments a vote of 4/5th’s.

The USA has the greatest thing running but these omnibus bills and majority vote is what allows representatives to “ram” through legislation without accountability (they just say. hey there was something in that bill you wanted (or didn’t want))

I also think there should be a method to recall representatives if they violate their oath of office (A faster method than a recall vote) Such as with a “Grand Jury” system. and they can only be challenged once per vote they place.

Additionally I love the idea of a sunset provision. Every law must be passed again and again. Maybe not every single year but certainly every 2 years to coincide with the house of representatives term.

The greatest issue with our representative democracy is that people know more about the people they vote for on American Idol than they do voting for the US or state congresses.

If we’re not going back to “must be 21 and own property” (I’ll leave of the “must be male” preface to that list) then having people pass enough of the citizenship test every 4 years to get a voting card which you turn in for your ballot (and pick up a 2 year card for the mid term elections, primaries and local/emergency elections).

Those all seem like good ideas. I don’t know about making EVERY bill require a 2/3 majority to pass though. Nothing would ever get done. That would mean no more damage by progressives, yes, but it would also mean we would have no chance of reversing the damage they have done so far. Politicians would have to end up trading votes on everything: “Hey, I’ll vote for your bill that I really hate if you agree to vote for my bill that you really hate but that I want passed more than I want yours not passed.” I don’t think that would end well.

Once upon a time, only property owners were allowed to vote as they have a vested interest in laws that would be put forth for a vote. Now that everybody and their illegal brother is voting, they pander and lie to make the majority happy regardless of the impact to the nation or state as a whole.
