Twitter staff react with terror on news that SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk bought $3 billion in company stock, and now has a seat on the board of directors. Should employees and users be afraid…very afraid?

the thought that Elon passionately wants to go to Mars to get away from the Woke mob reminded me of what I told myself every time our family moved in my childhood… a chance to remake myself, present myself in a better light, win friends and influence people… but what I discovered was, unfortunately, I was still the same shy person in the new place.
what’s the quote (and from whom?): no matter where you go, there you are…?
“…willing to shovel manure on Mars..” too funny Bill!! Or, just the right amount of funny! Keep on keeping on! 🏆💯🤣
I don’t think Elon will do anything spectacular or public. His position gives him something bigger. When the next dispute occurs he will ask to see the algorithm code. And Elon Musk can read code. He will also have a dozen of the best programmers on his staff. Some of whom may be the whistleblowers Twitter, Facebook, etc have sacked for being too politically and morally conservative. Elon can then say, ” Ah I see the problem. Lets change this, this and add a line of code here.” The board will be stuck either defending bad biased code or simply saying yes. The claim from the silicon valley left is that it’s not possible to write an algorithm that deals with bad people that does not peg conservative, Christian, Republican and Trump as extremists. This is true for them because they are taught left-wing meanings for almost every keyword from capitalism to gender.
If he had kicked off his own social media company he would have to design his own Algorithms, by buying into twitter he just needs to fix one.
I am not a programmer but I can see the code need. 1. a pseudo anonymous way of logging complaints and if the complaint is reversed the complainant is downgraded eventually leading to the complaints from that person or ‘bot’ being ignored. 2. Log politically sensitive accounts and create an review with human eyes immediately order.
3. The staff problem can be fixed easily. Just as they have a arabic reviewer base in Pakistan get a conservative reviewer base in the USA. The company should set up a midwest complaint moderation center. This recruits locally. These gets them the “unobtainable” conservative moderators silicon valley claims it can’t find.
I think the nickname for Jack Dorsey that Scott was trying to remember was “Trevor bin Laden” from his lockdown beard growth.
The morning after we recorded this, I was busily working when suddenly into my head popped the name.
Elon Musk has a definitely “unconventional” way of approaching problems.
It will be fascinating to see how he makes a “silk purse out of the sow’s ear” that is twatter!
By the way Mr Bill, I’m not quite sure where I gained the knowledge that April 6th is your birthday but would like to wish you a Happy Birthday and hope you have 50 or 60 more to go along with this one!!!

I don’t really have a dog in this fight other than my generic sense as an American Patriot that speech should be unhindered in order to get the best ideas possible. Anything else will absolutely suppress the better ideas of one side and this has been proven historically. I am not now and have never been a Twitter user.
Changing to a paid subscription model will have very little effect on someone like me.
It’s my opinion that Twitter has very little positive effect, period. I may or may not be in the majority of Americans but I think Twitter is a null akin to white noise. It’s something many people talk about and it’s something that hardly anyone really gives a crap about.
That said, Twitter is undeniably a negative influence. People’s lives have been ruined by a drunken Tweet they made years ago. No one’s life has ever been substantially improved by something they posted on Twitter. That goes for the people Steve said “need” Twitter too. It is an outlet with zero positive impact.
So I can’t work up a lot of care about Twitter. It would make no difference to me if it died tomorrow or became universal today. I just don’t care what ignorant people have to say and I don’t generally bother with them. Sadly those exact same ignorant people have found their voice on Twitter and that fact has been far more detrimental than not.
As for a subscription model being useful for the reasons that Steve stated in the above video … That’s why I’m here and that’s why this is the only website subscription I maintain.
I’ll agree with Steve on making twitter a subscription business but getting rid of the fact checkers division in the company would go far. Make the subscribers do the work of confirming or refuting their own facts through research without being told by someone else.
Agreed. Probably the most 2022 thing ever is the notion that getting rid of editorial oversight would improve credibility in the media, and yet here we are
The subscription model is what Locals uses for that reason.
Steve’s idea about a small subscription for Twitter, in order to eliminate bots, seems brilliant. It “seems” anyway and probably is. But I’m wondering if there is any data to support that. Someone who’s willing to spend a lot of money to support bot accounts could still do it, but I would guess that the bot population will significantly decrease. Is there data to show this?
All of these crying people have been terribly misled. Yes, in a bubble. They think Elon Musk hates trans people (among many other falsehoods). With zero evidence.
Well here is their “evidence” … Elon Musk is for something he calls “free speech” which means he believes people who think that if you’ve got junk down there, you’re a dude, and if you don’t you’re a chick – should be allowed to say so.
Therefore, he hates trans people.
But these are the same people who say there is “no evidence” that there was anything fishy about the last election.
Their pretzel logic only runs one way. Because they’ve been programmed that way. Pardon the loose pun there.
