By the way…How do we know that it was a “stray bullet” and not a shot fired at this Marine?
There is actually video of him shooting at someone else and it ricochet’s off a wall. That is likely the reason he was not injured that badly. The initial energy was dissipated by the wall.

OH, and Bill never brought him up after mentioning him in backstage; but the Rep nominee for Mayor may be Curtis Sliwa – founder of the Guardian Angles. NYC was so bad, LEO welcomed an organized group of what was essentially roving vigilantes.
And Steve Green – you are correct. That glorious bastard has aged very well. He is 67 and should be doing Dos Equis commercials.
the first home in which I lived was in the Bronx. My mom stayed at home with the 3 kids and my dad commuted to Brooklyn every day. In the late 60s my folks, who both grew up in Yonkers (the first city North of the Bronx) made the decision to move out of THE CITY and go to Westchester. I went to the same schools as Don Draper’s kids. But my dad still commuted to Brooklyn for the next 30 years. That was one of the sacrifices made (the other was my mom joining the workforce) to get us the hell out of NYC. It was very dangerous and filthy and drug-filled. While we went down to the city as a family frequently, I was 16 before they let me go alone. And we even stopped going to Yankee games because you literally were taking your life into your hands. I vividly recall the changes made during Rudi’s time in office. Times Square became a destination for many and we returned several times a year for shows and great dining.
We won’t be back anytime soon. There are other places to find entertainment and good food, including my own home.
Sad, but predictable. I don’t think it rebounds in my lifetime. Even a law and order mayor is not enough. The other politicians won’t support enforcement. They will wait four years and keep him from doing anything useful; then point and say, see he didn’t make a difference with his tough talk on crime. Elect us again.
To Bill’s point about the cycle of stupidity (thinly disguised as the cycle of Republican-fix-the-mess to Democrat-create-a-new-mess, rinse and repeat), we just don’t learn from history. Brits did it with Churchill after WWII and we’ve had innumerable examples of that on this side of the pond.
This is not to put Republican politicians up on a pedestal, however. We’ve also seen innumerable examples of how elusive fiscal restraint is with politicians of all parties. They just never met a taxpayer dollar they didn’t fall in love with.
more to the point, why aren’t reporters asking DeBlasio, point blank, “you advocated for this, why aren’t you flooding the zone w/ social workers?”
I think it was the Iraq War, may have been the Gulf War back in ’91, where it was found that it was statistically safer to be a front line soldier in the war than to be stationed back in the continental US.

New York’s mayoral primary didn’t have to be a mess. We just did the same a few months ago for the Virginia GOP and it went fine. There was some grousing afterward by people who didn’t read the rules beforehand, but overall it worked fine. Of course, we didn’t have 120,000 extra votes show up at the end, either

Yeah, plenty of other countries use the same or similar system for the parliamentary elections, but all bets are off when you throw in Democrat Party incompetence, partisan cheating and good ole machine cronyism for hiring.
