DVD Overlord, Doomcock, (rooster I hope) and Kamran Pasha, a Hollywood writer, talk about the apparent victory of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni taking control. Kathleen Kennedy’s impending retirement in mid October. I don’t like Doomcocks language and style. The mask and stuff is because he is a major Hollywood insider I suspect.
There is a lot there and I think its all spot on. My personal opinion is the the embargo on Disney should end quickly to reward Favreau, Filoni and Bob Chapek.
I quite like Omega in The Bad Batch. Those that understand why Dave Filoni made Ahsoka Tano such an obnoxious brat can see Dave doing the same thing in a way. I think she will grow up fast so be a star. She’s already out witted to of Star War’s top bounty hunters.
The genetics subplot is not so great, is shows that Lucas and Disney never consulted a geneticist.

This is good and it explains why Lucas sold to Disney, he wanted time with his daughter.

Though the fact that the daughter was not a natural daughter, they used a surrogate mother is problematic.
In part the real problem is that Lucas is a “Buddhist Methodist”, Hilary Clinton supporter and does not seem to do stable marriage, may mean that he sees the Woke as OK but is reacting to the poor sales and bad press not the message of the backlash.
As I have said, and as Bill is trying to do, we need to make our own Science Fiction and Fantasy universes. I have three up my sleeve but I can barely write.
People keep eating the shit and pay for it too. SW9 still pulled a billion instead of the 0 it should have after SW8.
We can delude all we want about “fan base” reaction, it remains just relative.
I like doomcock in general (you can hear his real voice in Viva/Barnes sidebars) but he was talking similar rumors for 5+ years, and most of them just didn’t fan out. We just apply the wishful thinking that kennedy, abrams, dumb&bumber and other key people runining good franchises will get their due kick in the ass, but they just shuffle around and keep up their BS.
While wallets remain to support them I don’t expect real change. Armchair fussing is no replacement for actual action.
It’s a safe bet that its not the stuff KK produced that’s funding Disney+ The legacy Fox material is what’s selling and in the Star wars sub set its the Lego Star Wars and Dave and Jon’s work that’s getting the views. The site will be tracking views down to the episode.
Let them make a new franchise.
That they made the execrable last trilogy shows me how little they care for me. And I feel the same for them as a result.
That is what Lucas and Disney is forcing Katherine Kennedy to do. She’s forming a new movie studio, Starlight, and pulling all the woke girls in Hollywood into it. It will make no movies I suspect. She leaves mid October, she is off all projects now except the Indiana Jones movie and nothing is happening with that movie for three months because of Harrison Ford’s bad shoulder injury.
Unless they memory hole all of Kathleen Kennedy’s offerings, it will likely be too late for most of us. I like Favreau (Iron Man is a really good movie, not just Superhero fluff) but I couldn’t bring myself to see the last several SW pieces. I understand Mandalorian is well thought of but since I didn’t want to give Disney any $$ through Disney+, I never watched it. They can’t just tell fans we suck and expect us to come back with open arms.
They are doing something far far worse than memory hole Kathleen Kennedy’s. Star Wars cannon has a time portal. The actors that stared in the sequels may be on screen in the movie that takes down her entire timeline. That’s why I think the day Kathleen Kennedy retires we should all re-subscribe and watch the Mandalorian and Bad Batch. That sends a huge message.
