Saner-at-Home Jams: Drum Prodigy

I’ve now watched dozens of Sina’s “drum karaoke” videos (my term, not hers). As a former lead singer in a rock band, I’ve witnessed first-hand how hard it is to get these drum parts right, and have deep admiration for Sina. (She also does a lot of music from my era.)

In this rendition of BTO‘s “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”, she gets a lackadaisical friend to play cowbell for humorous effect. You won’t want to miss her version of “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” by The Who

If you enjoy this, let me know, and I’ll show you a kid who plays some of the best guitar covers, with her own arrangments.

Scott, if you unaware of him, please check out Avery Molek (Avery Drummer on YouTube). Kid has been playing since 3, and is a pure prodigy. He can handle Neil Peart polyrhythmics like YYZ and Free Will, his rendition of Hot for Teacher is spot on, and Danny Seraphine would approve of his cover of Make Me Smile.

Scott you always get these great young musicians. A while ago (I think it was you) posted about a young lady who was a finger style guitar player from Norway or Sweden. Amazing young lady who had a huge YouTube fan base and now I can not remember her name? Please post more

I have always been a huge fan of people who can play an instrument. I am the guy in the crowd at a concert who is having the time of his life but can not keep time with the music and have to watch someone else to know when to clap with the songs. Fortunately my wife humors me.

Impressive indeed. I’m currently practicing marching snare drum with the intent of improving enough to make it on the instrument next year in marching band, and drums are HARD to learn, man. I love playing them, but I have no natural musical ability. I have a lot of respect for accomplished musicians on any instrument, but especially drums.
I would love learn drum set some day. If I ever do, it will inevitably trigger a Blues Brothers style sequence of events in which I travel across the country in my old Subaru Outback to recruit Scott Ott and Neil Diamond to form a band with me called “Rock of All Ages.”

My first band in high school started as a Blues Brothers tribute, and then morphed into a variety of whatever interested us, along with some originals. One of the best live shows I ever saw was Belushi, Aykroyd, and the rest of the Brothers at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia. And, as you well know, Nolan, I love Diamond. So, I’m in. Also, the first new car I had was a Suburu XT…although the Outback is a much roomier choice for getting the band back together.

The Mann is a great venue! I saw a few of my favorites there – Slayer, Danzig, as well as Sabbath and Motorhead touring together. The Slayer show was the first time they were allowed back after a lifetime ban due to their fans trashing the pace back @ their ’86 tour
