Forgive me if someone else has raised this point previously, but what occurred to me when I first caught this story on the “news”, was that the artist(s) who created these works in the past, were really trying to present an image that would be welcoming to the audience they were aiming at. And spoiler alert, they weren’t middle eastern in descent. The audience was Anglo-Saxon, and the Church would have been trying to bring more worshipers into the fold, not alienating them. And Bill is right – Mr. King (what a horrible misuse of the title) has no authority here – presumed or otherwise.
Everyone stood and watched as these radicals removed Confederate statues. Everyone said nothing. We in the South are descendants of the common soldiers and the generals. While everyone else felt nothing, we cried because we KNEW that this would not be the end of it. Everyone allowed our Southern heritage to be destroyed with the assumption that if we throw these anarchist a bone, they will not come after their heritage. Well, how did that work for them? This week down came statues of Lincoln,Catholic priests, Grant and a number of men and women who gave blood to abolish slavery. It was only when the statues of Washington, Jefferson and Jesus are attacked that the consciousness of everyone as awakened. Sad!
The people tearing down these symbols of our collective heritage have no idea who these statues represent, or who they were.
Deciding whose art is allowed and whose is not has a nephew called Hate Crimes. It’s a very slippery slope. Who gets to choose?

I wonder, if Trump wins in 2020, it will come out that his re-election campaign funded BLM, because no better bang for the buck to turn the rational voting center (decider of all U.S. elections) to the reasonable right than the recent insane actions of the left.

But they’ll blow it all if they trigger a war, in which all recent activity – like the Russian collusion plot, like the Ukraine distraction – will evaporate from anyone’s concern heretofore. I hope and pray that it doesn’t come to pass. But I also read history.

I do have a few points of contention with Bill. Theologically speaking, the ethnicity of Jesus is important. He was a Jew, and the Bible is quite clear that that was not an arbitrary characteristic. As a result, I do not subscribe to the idea that you can imagine Jesus as whatever race you want. Second, this King fool is factually incorrect in his statement that Jesus went to Egypt to “blend in.” The bible says no such thing (read Matt. 2:13-15). They fled to Egypt to put geographical and political distance between them and king Herod. They wouldn’t have blended in, because they were Jews, not Egyptians! Lastly, no, Jesus wouldn’t have looked like Gustavus Adolphus, but he still probably would have been classified as “white.” Just look at modern Jews. Some of them look more middle-eastern, some look more European (I’m looking at you Shapiro and Prager), but they are all still fair skinned when you look at the whole spectrum of skin tone. So the depictions of Jesus in European cathedrals are probably not far off. And I have yet to ever see a blond-haired blue-eyed depiction of Jesus, so that was a straw man argument. Rant over.
Just remember that many Arabs do not consider Egyptians to be Arabs.Quite a bit of ethnic bigotry in that part of the world.
I cannot agree that everything is art. Not every piece of crap on a paper towel should be allowed to be publically displayed in a museum or on the street. However, something that is created by a person is theirs, can be kept by them on their property, and must not be destroyed or stolen. The law protects them (4th Amenment). Art that is displayed at taxpayer expense, in a public museum or private collection is also the property of those who have acquired it. It is a crime to destroy something that belongs to someone else.
DUE process before any seizure of property is a guaranteed right.
The truly sad part is that Shaun King probably thinks he has said something profound about the actual appearance of Jesus of Nazareth. I recall having a group discussion in 7th grade social studies (public school, not parochial) where the teacher raised the topic of Jesus’ appearance. Twenty-five 11 year old kids figured out that Jesus probably looked a lot more like Menachem Begin or Anwar Sadat than he would have looked like the Roman Pontius Pilot or our current (at that time) Pope, Paul VI. And he certainly didn’t look like Benny Andersson or Gregg Allman. (Gee can everyone figure out when I was in Jr. High School?)
It really isn’t a new thought. But who paid for all those paintings and sculptures? Where did the Renaissance happen?

That said, I agree with Bill 100% here. And it’s well past time we got angry about all this sickness erupting around us, so I agree even more with Bill’s tone.
My last two serious blog posts took the same tone. This cannot go on and we have to do something about it. I’ll stand next to any Christian to defend a church for the exact reasons Bill states in the video. Let’s get going!
I too do not respect “religion” as such, for it has been corrupted. I personally am about a “relationship” with my King of Kings. I will however, join with those who may choose to defend what was at least His church for a time and for some christains a true gathering of the faithful. In addition, I am also willing to defend our Jewish brothers and their synagogues if under attack. The time for fence sitting is over…we must choose what is worth defending, as has come many times throughout history. This is our time to rise in defense of goodness against evil. May our Lord give us strength, wisdom and courage for the fight to come.
Well, I go beyond merely not subscribing to any recognized religion. I have determined to my own satisfaction that no supernatural anything exists. So I don’t do any of it.
It’s important to know that I have absolutely no interest in changing anyone else’s mind about this. As long as no one is trying to force their beliefs or practices on me, I have no quarrel.
It might seem odd for what most people here would term an atheist (I don’t call myself that because my beliefs arise from my knowledge and reason, not the other way around) to agree with the conservative side of the political spectrum. However, this is where my intellectual (and what most would call spiritual) journey has come, so here I am.
One quick anecdote about that journey: raised Catholic, I have investigated a good number of different religions in my time. For example, I once considered becoming a Quaker but changed my mind after learning that the initiation included taking a turn in the oatmeal mines. 😉
There is a young people’s book called The Terrible Things. It’s an allegory of The Holocaust that is easy for anyone to grasp.First they came for the animals with fuzzy tails, etc. When they came for me, there was no one left to help defend me. IIRC Eve Bunting is the author. Great reminder for everyone who loves liberty.
I’ve heard versions of that and it makes a good point. I don’t see what it has to do withmy comments, though.

Time for another Crusade, Dues Vult! As a Constitutionalist and member of the Second Amendment’s Militia, I believe those people need to be engaged and discouraged in a most serious manner! As retired military, I consider all these groups as insurrectionists and believe they need to reside in another country!
