Texas Leads as Our Mask Mandate-Free Future Awaits, but Some Cling to the Cloth

Texas announces state will no longer mandate mask wearing, but leave the decision to mask to individuals and businesses as infections and deaths decline, and vaccinations ramp up aggressively. But some folks seem enamored of staying masked up in perpetuity. Some politicians like it that way.

Kurt Schlichter has a series of novels that depicts Stephen’s proposal about a national divorce. Although it was not a no armed conflict divorce.

Scott, if only the unimpeachable Centers for Disease Control (CDC) “followed the science” and issued GUIDELINES based on EVIDENCE this whole kerfuffle would be moot. But noooooo. We are victims of tyrants practicing classic tyranny unabated. No less than the peaceful, God-fearing Germans 80 years ago who stood by innocently facilitating the genocide of over 10 million equally innocent civilians, those “Karens” today are so duped from abject fear of horrific death that they condone it, support it, and defend the tyranny, unaware that the COVID boogeyman is bare-assed naked.
It will take a massive reversal of this lie from the very top of our leaders to reverse the mindless, compliant, behavior that is pervasive throughout our population. When the fraudulently inaugurated occupant of the White House bases his authority on fraud and threatens to mandate masks indefinitely, we have a problem, (Houston).

Yeah. And this nonsense will likely go on for a while for mutations of the same, then other pathogens till everyone gets fed up completely.
And the unfortunate side effect is that there COULD be a virus that actually could destroy humankind (one similar to genophage in Mass Effect), and by that time no one will bother with following any procedure even if they then would be necessary for good. As in the tale with crying wolf. Shame or everyone participating.

Texas may be said to be “leading” but other states went, or were mask mandateless before them. Montana’s new governor ceased the previous governor’s mandates this past mid February.

Montana – where your nearest neighbor is what, 2 miles away, had mask mandates? That makes sense.

As much as at the beginning when the coast patrol was chasing the lone surfer in the middle of the water without mask, The rule is about obedience and Fredo could ask “where does it say the rule has to make sense?”

We are ‘celebrating’ the 1st anniversary of our ‘two weeks’ to flatten the curve in Michigan. Flat face Frau Fuhrer Witchmer is still working at flattening the curve.

I saw that too. I read the text of the Governor’s edict and the principal thing it did was prevent local authorities from fining or jailing anyone (business owner or customer), which was always and ever the only teeth to any of the restrictions. It made people like me put on a mask when asked to by a business owner or employee–I complied because I didn’t want them to be fined $3000 because I was not wearing a mask. But no one was ever fined under these rules except a few bars. (I kept looking for news of incidents and never found any others.) We all went along with this when there was basically no risk of fines or jail (after Shelley Luther), especially not if we all stopped at the same time.

That said, as I noted elsewhere, in grocery and big box stores, a lot of people haven’t worn masks for months (except sometimes to walk in the door) and no one even blinks. The only real mask nazis are small businesses in rich leftist enclaves, governmental bureaucracies (including libraries–but at least they’re open), and some (but not all) doctor’s offices.

Anyway, before I got derailed what I wanted to say was that I didn’t really understand what Paxton is suing about. The local authorities can virtue-signal with “rules” but they can’t enforce anything except criminal trespass (when a customer refuses to either mask or leave when asked).

Als Barnes finally found a good victim for a suit — a woman with health condition incompatible with mask wearing and barred from a shop due to arbitrary restrictions. We’ll see where it goes. Explained in by viva last weekend.

Masks can be effective at preventing the spread of illness, the issue is our political class using security theater tactics to keep people fearful and placid. I work in a hospital and I wear a full on Gas Mask with p100 filters while working right now and will likely continue to do so until I see data that it’s safe not to inside the hospital. Indoors I plan to wear a mask in public through the end of this month, by which time the inoculation rate and tanking number of infections should mean an end to this round of COVID. Outdoors there is basically no need and it’s just virtue signaling.
On the flip side now that masks are socially appropriate I intend to keep a gator handy for ninja activity…

Now that’s a mask that provides protection from lots of things. What most people are wearing doesn’t.
The ones with the loose weave gaitors are the funniest. You could blow baby powder through it, but they think it protects them from particles they can’t see.
Had a guy tell me that those protect from people who are coughing and sneezing. My response, as it has been for more than 4 decades, was if you are coughing and sneezing during cold and flu season, stay home so you don’t spread whatever virus you have.

The only thing a cloth mask could really do is reduce the distance of particle projection, though some masks have been shown to actually increase particle range by aerosolizing breath droplets. Si I think generally a decent cloth mask can reduce the area of effect, but what that really means for infection rate is speculative.

“some masks” as kinda all of them?
And how interesting that the simple and effective way to reduce particle emission is not even suggested. Yeah the “shut the fuck up!”. Including bossing around others and talking into your idiot box. As opening your mouth and speak increases the flow 10-100x.
And never mind what happens with the material that is held back and getting so concentrated on the hands and further.

I simply meant that infection rates drop to tolerable levels or it’s determined that the Vaccine is reasonably effective. In reality I figure COVID will be treated much like the flu, with those at high risk wearing masks and everyone wearing them during peak season, since it looks like this is now an Endemic Virus.

I propose a city ordinance prohibiting the public wearing of any type of face covering. Punishment $500 per violation. Because wearing a face covering shows you’re infected with some disease and you shouldn’t be out in public.

I believe the new name for the country ought to be The United Federation of Free People. But we will shorten it to UFP. Perhaps with a banner that looks a little like this.

Mostly because you thought you’d look cool in Spock’s goatee, right?

Yes, but is your mask’s beard, or your (presumably) real beard, a valid and verified N95 beard?

To be fair, I kind of like the whole stay at least 6 feet away from me thing.

Now that Gov in TX has said no mandate, any retailer who keeps mask requirement should see lots of people do the following:
Maskless person walks just inside the door and stops … as soon as he makes eye contact with an employee, he should hold up his wallet, wag his finger from side to side, pocket his wallet, flip the bird to the employee and depart to spend his hard earned dollars elsewhere.

I went out today on the first day of Freedom in Texas. I had decided ahead of time that I would not patronize any establishment that required me to wear a mask.

First establishment was a mom and pop “health food” store I wanted to patronize to help keep them in business if they had what I needed. Their door was locked. A gentleman in a truck who pulled up right before we did went to the door with a mask on, then turned around and went back to his truck, taking his mask off. We asked him if they were closed, and he said there was a sign on the door saying that they required masks AND gloves. Then someone came to the door. We asked if masks and gloves were required. She said masks but not gloves. (The gentleman had already driven away.) We said no thank you and left too.

Then we went to Wal-Mart. I pulled my turtleneck up over my nose just to get in the door, in case those people by the door were being mask nazis. Then I pulled it down and no one, customer or employee alike, said anything to me. I smiled at everyone I met. The people without masks on smiled back! Most people were wearing masks, though.

(To be fair, this has been pretty much modus operandi around here at grocery and big-box stores for months.)

I’ve been seeing stuff like this going on at my local Wal-Mart for months now, and I’m in the Soviet Republic of New York.

It’s wonderful to see people smile. Not fearful eyes ashamed and cutting away from your gaze.

I’d be very surprised if we ever get back to anything even close to normal. Now that they’ve seized control “they’ll” never willingly relinquish it.

Indeed. It’s like when they enact a “temporary” increase to the sales tax rate…and it remains the tax rate forever.

I heard there are still cities where the mayors are mandating masks. So much for the power of a governor.

It seems there are city councils, county commissioners, mayors, etc. in most of the states that like having power over people’s lives and don’t want to give it up.
Perhaps one day the people will stand up to those Napoleons.

“Look at the predictions versus the actual data” – This is kind of like trying to debate their theology with a Climastroligy cult member

I saw a meme of a mask with the ‘come and take it’ motto , does this idiot not understand the concept of freedom? No one wants to take it from you , moron. Wear a hazmat suit if you want .

On the other hand yesterday I went for a three mile walk in my suburban neighborhood, kept the mask in my pocket, I passed 20 people only 2 were masked many of the other offered big smiles. This is New York BTW

In NYC, that is great. I was in a college town over the weekend. They had electronic signs on the sidewalks reminding people to wear their masks on the sidewalk. On the bleeping sidewalk. My wife and I looked at each other and kept the masks in our pockets.

The colleges are part of the root problem. Of course they want all the far left craziness to continue.

I’m in the People’s Republic of New York, too, and I stopped seeing masked people in parks months ago. It’s rare even in my suburban neighborhood, unless the people happen to be entering or leaving a store or other public building that requires masks (especially the ones with the threatening “STOP! MASKS REQUIRED FOR ENTRY!” signs plastered all over the doors.

When you see the sign, reverse course, depart for greener pastures … some stores actually WANT your money.

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing for the past year, at least when it’s possible to do so. Supermarkets, I don’t have a choice. But everyplace else I either do without or find an online merchant (NOT the politically woke Amazon), despite all the scolding about “supporting your local merchants”. And that usually comes from the same Karens who are now nagging me to wear a mask everywhere.
