Chris Martin Palmer is a man I hadn’t heard of until the terrorism of last weekend. He is an ESPN reporter. He expressed praise for the rioters on social media, posting a photo of a low-income building burning in Minneapolis. “Burn that sh#t down” he said. Then the rioters came to HIS neighborhood and stood in front of HIS building. His tune changed: “Get these animals out of my neighborhood. Go back to where you live.” Self-awareness is a blessed thing; when you know the words flowing out of your mouth, or from your fingertips could reveal you as a stupid person, and you’re able to stop those words before ever being uttered or typed.
I think we need to start teaching Bible, Talmud, Aquinas, and Maimonides in public schools. Ancient religious arguments instill reason and logic and lead to self-criticism. These young people I see destroying other people’s hard work, and beating old people, justify their actions because of “oppression” even though most of them have never been oppressed in their lives. They have become oppressors.
